Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

Ok guys (or gals). I have a question.

If you had to choose a brand new iPhone 6S 16GB or an iPhone 6 64GB, which would you choose?

Let's pretend you only had these 2 choices, and they each cost the same amount of money. This is the choice I will be making today. Please help.

I would go with the 6s if you can live with cloud storage options or you simply don't need a lot of storage. If at all possible I would fork over the extra $100 for the 64GB 6s.

Well I have decided on the Note 5 even though I was leaning towards the 6S plus. Why? Cost. The 6S plus is $900, I found a note 5 seller on eBay for $570 brand new. I also found a $300 iPad Air 2. I get to use both OS and get way more out of the same money. It's an absolute no brainier.

Glad you were able to make your decision. I wish I could get rid of my iPhone, but I've found that I can't live without iMessage.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I was a long-time very happy iPhone user. I still am even after switching to a Samsung Note.
I have an iPhone, AppleTV, a Samsung Note and the Samsung equivalent to an AppleTV- AllShare Cast.

I avoid the need for a laptop when I travel or an iPad when I am at home. Screen mirroring is a total replacement for an iPad for me.
It has been fun learning the Android OS after years of living in the walled garden of iOS.

I hear you. I have a dozen of message threads right now, none are iMessage lol so I can definitely live without it. Besides since I'll be getting an iPad Air 2 as well ill be good.

Damn 3/4 of my contacts are iMessage lol

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

If you really want to simplify things just get the large iPhone and jailbreak it. That way you only have one device but it's a little more like Android as its tweakable.

dreaming of electric sheep

The problem is your jailbreak goes away with each iOS upgrade/update. Aggravating.

I'd take the 6 with 64GB. The 6S isn't a huge upgrade, really, and you will want more than 16GB storage in a non-expandable device. My music alone is roughly 32GB.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I get 1.5 days plus on both my Note 5 and iPhone 6S+ under moderate use.
They are close.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I was all confused before I entered the apple store but once I did and got my hands on everything, it all became absolutely clear to me lol. First, I realized how tiny my 6s was and I knew that it was history for that phone. Second, I liked the 6s plus but I was thinking to myself how can you have a "big" display and yet not fully utilize it. It became clear to me that the note was my only option. I did however pick up the 6s plus just to resell it then ill order the note. The 6s plus is right here next to me in the apple bag ready to be shipped as soon as it is bought then ill go for the note 5 and I wont look back...until the next big thing comes around.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

You need to make sure you sign out of iMessage and FaceTime BEFORE you pull your sim card out of your iPhone. I have gotten to the point I don't even sign in to iMessage and FaceTime anymore when I use my iPhone 6 Plus. If you don't sign out anyone sending you a message from an iMessage device will only go to your devices that are signed into iMessage.

Thanks flybub! I'll remember that. It's so easy to fall in these traps when initially installing. You have to say no, a couple of times to these services. I might try the 6S+ again once 64GB devices get into general stock. I had a 16GB device that I knew I would not keep.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I do not miss my Android/iDevices at all. I have 2 phones (Samsung Galaxy S3 (no SIM)/iPhone 6+) and 2 tablets (Sony Tablet Z/Air2) which I use everyday. I do not discriminate.

To make the transition easier between devices, I've been using Google's apps (Chrome/Gmail/Keep/Drive/Play Books) on all devices. For Messaging, I've moved on to Telegram.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I can completely relate to many of the posts in this thread. I have a iP6, Note 4, GS6 and a G3 and switch back and forth every few days or so. All have too many cases My sim card is getting worn out, lol. If my iPhone's visual voicemail would "just work" without needing to wipe/restore it every time I throw in the sim from another phone it might get more use.

I might be nuts. :)

I can relate to you. I have a 6s, S6, Note 5. Constantly switching between them.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I guess I am still confused as to what the benefits of iMessage are. Why is it such an allure? I admit I've had iMessage for the majority for the past year though but so far I've been iMessage free and haven't seen a drawback.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I use iOS and Android and I use Google Voice to make it work easily with two lines on T-Mobile. One number on my Note 4 and a different number on my iPhone 6s. I only give out my GV # though so both phones ring and receive texts whenever someone is trying to reach me. As an added bonus I get 5 gb of data instead of 2.5.

Love it.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

A friend just pointed out to me that maybe researching smartphones and constantly being on forums may be fueling my sickness for smartphones. I'm going to have to give some serious thought to taking a break from this tech stuff and just being happy with my Note 5.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I'm getting irritated with myself because I keep switching back and forth between the two platforms. I just want to make a decision already and stick with it. Had the iPhone 6S on launch weekend. Nothing wrong with it. Really enjoyed it actually. And it complemented my iPad Air 2 perfectly. But yesterday was day 13 of my 14 day return window and I panicked. Went out and exchanged it for the Note 5. Bought a case, screen protector, and wireless charger. So, I'm all in. Haven't touched my beloved iPad since. Now here is the problem. When I use the note, I don't want to use any complementary devices. After a while, I miss my iPad and I want to switch back, but I need the iPhone to go with it. I have been doing this for years. And it's making me feel quite ridiculous. But I can't choose. And I don't know why.

Why not keep the note and compliment it with an iPad? best of both worlds

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I got the 9.7 tab s2 to go along with my note 5 and, coming from being a long time windows phone fan, it's a pretty badass combination. I bought the att lte version. Get one you won't be disappointed.

To me, iMessage shines when you have a significant group of your regular contacts that also use it AND you are used to being able to send high resolution pics (without SMS compression), larger gifs, and videos through your stock messaging app. If, like me, most of the people you regularly communicate with are on iMessage then it makes a difference. I also use a Mac and an iPad so the the seamless integration can't be beat. Yes, there are 3rd party apps like Pushbullet or Mighty Text that could help you achieve multi-device syncing, but you are still limited by the carrier imposed SMS file size restrictions. If you don't have a significant number of contacts who use iMessage then this is far less likely to matter to you.

Just today a friend of mine (who uses an iPhone) tried to text me a pic she had taken with her phone and it didn't come through on my Note 5. Instead I got an error message in my text thread. Why? Because of carrier imposed SMS file size restrictions. I don't have these issues when I'm using my iPhone. I could ask people to download and use third party apps, but the beauty of iMessage is that it's baked right in at the OS level.
