Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

This is strictly an opinion and I have no data or research to back this up. But do you ever think there will come a day when phone manufacturers, either Apple or any android phone company, will allow dual booting or allowing the other os to be installed on it? Picture a Nexus device running iOS. Or an iPhone or iPad running Android? Computers and Chromebooks are headed that way. Linux can be installed on Macs.

When I was rooting and flashing roms on my Galaxy Nexus, I loved installing roms and features to make my phone look like a Sony or Htc device. Or even Ubuntu. Anyone remember that?

I know Apple and Google would have to break down a ton of barriers, but personally I'd love to see the day when I can take my iPhone and install Android on it. Or vice versa.

I guess there's more of a chance that Republicans and Democrats will come together and break down their barriers than seeing Google and Apple work together.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I believe the feature sets are pretty close. Ease of use, pure operating system experience (no bloatware), quick updates, and all around fluid experience.

Note in my house!

I agree. The Nexus 6p I had was sweet. Best Android phone I had in this back and forth period. I'd probably go back to that one if I could figure out how to see all the texts from iMessage from friends and not have to miss group texts or replies to them. That is a big reason I switched back, sadly. I could get an iPad to fix some of that, but I see no use for them when I have an iPhone. It seems the same to me, especially with the plus.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

So if someone on an iPhone sent you a group message, you wouldn't receive them or all of the replies to them on your 6p? I thought that android phones were capable of doing group messaging.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's wrong there. My father and I are literally the only Android users among a group of close to 30 iPhone users in our family and we get group messages just fine.

I've been told it may have to do something with iMessage. I had iPhones for years before trying to switch and even asked people to unmark me as
iPhone in their contacts to help (under phones you can list as mobile, home, work or iPhone in iOS). That was suggested and didn't help at all.

I'm not sure it would be worth it to either side to do that.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

OMG - replace NOTE 5 with NEXUS 6P and I am there too. Been doing it for quite some time. Love my iOS devices, but really like ANDROID too. I think the Nexus 6P is a really nice device but torn between that and my 6S Plus. I feel your pain!

The 6P was my second choice after the Note 5. It might have been my first if it had wireless charging.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

My first choice if I were to switch tomorrow would be the 6p. It's the best phone in my opinion at that price point. Nothing else appeals to me on Android. I've seen the same ram management issues in the Moto X as the Galaxies. Watch Droid Modder X speed test videos on YouTube.

A distant second would be the V10. It's just a huge phone.
The Note 5 arguably, even with the ram management issues, is the best android phone out right now, in my opinion.

Honestly I hate where manufacturers are going. Just give me a 1080p screen with a battery that lasts the whole day using it moderately to heavy and I'm sold. Of course there are other things. But why the push for more pixels when we can't distinguish the difference?

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

Hello everyone,Hello Android!

It's great for me joining this community site,I'm totally new here!
I am a brand new user of a Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB GoldPlatinum device, just bought and received it and it's really awesome, looks great, feels really comfortable for me and perfectly fits in hand!Really a premium category,as for its form and look. It's really premium,so i am very excited about it! Now,to tell the truth, this is my first ever smartphone! I mean, ever!I've never ever had or handled one before! I've never used or handled any of them before and would have some important questions I wanna ask and get to know as a starter, cause I'm an absolute beginner.Firstly,I'd like to ask a couple of things about its charging! Erasat or anyone here,if any of you are here and can help with some useful advice,I'd like to get to know about the approx. first charging time and ask you first how many hours I do have to charge it for the first and second time after unpacking and switching it on. Btw,I've read the useful infos about the first steps of main Android settings and your posts were very helpful.I hope I'll find the answers to my questions here and am waiting for your reply, thanks!
Cheers!

Welcome to the Android World.

In a summary, just use your phone as you please, don't need to do routine charges when you first get your phone, you can get it out of the box and begin using it until you want. Just do a Full charge after you first set it up and begin using it. You may see the first few days that the battery life is not the best, remember that you will still be setting it up and using it more than normal the first few days, also it seems that the battery gets better once it gets a couple of battery cycles.

Just go to the Battery life thread on this forum or in the S6 forum and follow the suggestions you think are better for you to optimize your battery.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I have been doing fine with just the one. The Note 5 has been really good to me. No complaints. I have even been able to resist the release of other cool smartphones. I have to admit though, I do think about having an iPhone again every once in awhile.

Note in my house!!!

Well.... I've been taken over by Apple. I sold my Note 3 gained a Nexus 6 (hubby insisted) and have fallen deeply into in my iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Mini 4 with a brand new iMac joining those around Christmas time. Sigh. I do miss my Note a little but I have to say, not all that much. Go figure

I'm kind of looking at doing something very similar. I love love love Android, but do flip back and forth to Apple from time to time. I like the simplicity and ease of use with Apple, but I tend to get lured in by the shiny new Android phone. This time it was the 6P, which is the best Android phone on the market in my opinion. But once the shiny newness wears off, I feel like I would be better suited to the reliability of Apple. So now I'm looking really hard at picking up a 6s or 6s+ and an iPad Mini 4. Can't quite pull the trigger just yet, but I feel like this might be the right choice.

Legally might be difficult. Could result in antitrust issues.

Argh! . I have a love hate relationship with this thread. Now I'm thinking, "Hmmm.. I loved that 6p, I could get around the texting issues and I'm in my return period for the iPhone 6s Plus and I'd actually spend a lot less on the Nexus phone". I need help.

Do it. If I could I would. I'm stuck paying 849 for my iPhone 6 Plus 64 whether I sell it and get something different or I keep it. If I had to to all over, I'd have waited a little bit longer for the Nexus release. I would've loved to be able to save that much money.

You are not alone. I have a Note 5, 6P, and iPhone 6s Plus sitting on my desk. In a day, my sim ends up in all three of them at some point. Usually my Note 5 is my work horse and stays in use during work hours while the 6s plus and 6P split the other time pretty evenly. Honestly, not as impressed with the 6s Plus as I thought I'd be. I was thinking the camera with the increased resolution was going to be great but I prefer the Note 5 and 6P cameras. I do like iOS alot though so I will keep it around.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

So,here are some of my questions: how do you get around getting everyone on iPhones (most of my family and friends) to see your texts and receive theirs and group texts specifically on Android? This is one of the main reasons I sold my Nexus 6p and went back to the 6s plus. Also, can I use the same sim in two different phones? I'd consider getting an Android to switch back and forth from, but I'll probably wait to see what the new Note 6 will be like or even the LG v11, or whatever it is to switch back if I do. This 6s plus is pretty sweet.

When you switch away from your iPhone, you have to remember to turn off iMessage AND FaceTime before you remove your sim card. If that doesn't solve the issue use Apple's online iMessage phone number removal tool. You should get your text messages just fine after that.

Good tip! I turned mine off after after I bought the Note 5 and before I sold the 6 Plus.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I am currently using a my Note 4, this is the longest I have ever stayed with one phone. While the Note 5 is enticing, lack of SD storage is an absolute killer, period. Hoping for return of storage in Note 6. Until then, staying put. I could never us an iphone, too limited.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I had the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 before I decided to try out an android device. Every since then I have not ventured back into iOS territory. I have always loved the customizing features of android and how well they connect to the google apps. However I always go through this period every year where I really consider of going back to iOS. Even though I hate how you can't really customize your interface, I love the slow motion features of the camera and just the smoothness of the operating system. Getting updates on a consistent basis doesn't hurt iOS either. There are many things that I admire about iOS, but there are also things that I admire about android that keep me from switching. Which is probably the reason why it makes it so hard for me to leave android world.
