Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

Yeah, I need a support group. I probably should stay with my bread and butter - Android. But every time I see someone using an iPhone I think to myself: "self, that looks like the phone you should be using." Then I go out of my way to get one and I get to the point within a couple of days with them, like you, where I'm thinking "eh, this isn't that great."

That's apart of the allure with the iPhone. It's everywhere and if you don't have one it makes you feel like you are every missing out somehow. I will say this, even though the Note 5 is a popular device, I don't see it everywhere I go. And I like that. I went into a pancake house a week ago and probably 75 percent of the people I saw in there had North Face jackets/coats and iPhones. It bothered me. I had a North Face coat on but not the iPhone. So I didn't feel completely like a clone.

This has been a great thread. I had no idea how many of us there are. My Note 5 is the best phone I've ever had, but no one phone has all the good qualities available out there. Sometimes I get tired of the complexity and multiple steps and miss the iPhone 6s I had. What I wish is to have multiple phones with the same phone number. I could just grab whichever phone I'm in the mood for at the moment and not keep confusing people about which phone number I'm using.

It has been a great thread!

I'm not sure it's quite as easy as just picking up the phone you want and running out the door with it. But it should be no harder than popping a SIM out of one phone and into the other then running out the door!

I'll also tell you that this is precisely what I'm planning on doing! I have the iPhone 6+ on Verizon (6+, rather than 6s+) and am doing the "monthlies" on it. Lord willing, come tax return time this coming Febraury or March or so, I'll pick up a Nexus 6p and start doing the SIM swap.

On top of that, I'm a real cheerleader for Windows 10 Mobile, and would make one of the new Lumias yet a third phone this tax time, but the new crop have been "big red blocked", so no dice.

Instead, I'll get a Pixel C along with the Nexus if I can afford both, or a Nexus 9 tab if I can't, and make this "the year of Google" since I already have the iPhone, an iPad, and a Mac. Hopefully, by the following tax return time in early 2017, and hopefully sooner, the Verizon and Microsoft feud will be over, and I'll be able to get my hands on one of those rumored upcoming "Surface Phones". :-)

But the point is, you and I are on the same page as far how to deal with this iOS/Android conundrum: "¿Por qué no los dos?" - "why not both?" :-)

Cheers!

I hear ya there. I HATE being a clone of everyone else. That's part of what I hate about iPhones - I do feel like a sheep. And no, I'm not calling iPhone users sheep, I just feel like I'm only using it to follow the herd. But there really are a lot of things I absolutely love about iOS. But I still get that "eh" feeling when I use it. Although I also wonder if that would wear off if I just sucked it up and used it for awhile. Putting Android in the rear view mirror. I really want to get the 6P, but there are so many issues I read about it, and I just can't trust it for the long haul like I can an Apple device.

That's the hard part, we keep reading about these devices. What we read confuses us. I started reading posts about the S-pen malfunctioning and even breaking apart. Immediately I began to panic for fear that mine too would come apart. I started thinking that this sort of thing wouldn't happen with an iPhone. But guess what? My s-pen never broke. It doesn't even seem like it would break. It's unfortunate that this problem occurred for a select few, but it hasn't happened to me , and most likely won't. These things are in my head all the time. And it causes me to switch all the time. I try and remind myself that I have had my Note 5 for almost three months and I have done just fine. I don't need another smartphone.

"Be together, not the same" https://www.android.com/intl/en_uk/be-together-not-the-same/ seems appropriate in this case. No doubt that Apple and North Face make quality products. I have them along with Android products. I think the "theme" here perhaps for some of us (me included) is that I don't want to feel like a conformist, and instead be a bit more individualistic. Since our mobile devices (and clothes) go with us most everywhere, I can see how those material things can reflect to those around us who we may appear be at first glance. Now, if everyone has a Note 5 or 6P and wore Columbia jackets/coats (quality products); then that could also create a "clone like" feeling or perception. Speaking of "clones", this is cool https://www.google.com/starwars/

then you could just use Note 5 and your iPad. Note5 is the 90% device you get your hands on. But if you need an apple juice- there's your iPad came to the rescue.

personally i like Nexus 6P better than Note 5

The 6P looks great, but I don't see any benefit over my Note 5.

Well I didn't last too long. However, I didn't move to iPhone again. Got a good deal through my carrier and got a Nexus 6p for $99 to add a third line. Moved my 16GB Data to 12GB to help offset the price per month My wife and I use maybe 5GB per month. On WiFi a lot. I was paying $150 per month for 2 lines sharing 16GB. Going to be paying $145 per month for 12GB with 3 lines even though I won't be using the 3rd line.

I've always like the Nexus phones. Didn't like the 6 since it was just too big. So now I can use the Note 5 or the Nexus 6p whenever I want :)

Good thing is that I'm sticking with Android. Very happy with it. It was either the Nexus or Note 5 in the first place when I sold my iPhone. Nexus was never available so I got the Note 5. Love my Note but always loved stock android when I had the Nexus 5. With no added money out of pocket per month it's a win for me. Should have the Nexus in a few days. Looking forward to it. Might even root it and have some fun ;)

That's cool. As long as you are happy with your choice.

I used to be like this, as you could tell from my office, full of android devices, went to apple and hated it, back to android. Everything STOPPED when I went to windows phone and windows surface! There is no better system right now. I do like all the apps on android, but windows phone is more polished, but is not just a row of icons, and the surface blows everything other tech computing device in the weeds!

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

The 950XL and Surface 4 do look like a compelling combination. I've been thinking about Windows Mobile off and on for some time now. Used many devices in the old Windows Mobile days. I don't use a lot of apps, so the app gap may not be a big hurdle for me. Continuum and the Display Dock also look interesting.

The only thing I feel Microsoft is lacking is a solid book, magazine, video store. I travel weekly for business and that is where the simplicity of opening an app on an iPad or Android device and having access to my content is something I cannot live with out.

I have my Note on this trip with me, but still brought the iPhone 6s+. It is as if I am slowly detoxing.

How good is navigation on iphone? I have never tried it but often need navigation.

Haha. I'm the same way. I have a lot of content on the Play Movies that I can use on either Android or iOS. With Windows, there's no way to play them without streaming where I can download them on Android or iOS.

Anything in particular you miss from the 6s+ when using Android?

The Maps app on the iPhone is actually really good. Visually, I prefer Google Maps, but as far as accuracy, I haven't seen a difference.
