Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I have not noticed any lag on my note 5(unlocked) and I use 130+ apps. One thing I did do though was disable flipboard's briefing. It's ****. Period. Also in developer options, changed the animation speed to 0.5x. Everything is super fast now.

I later found out it was an ipv6 issue with my Wi-Fi. Once I disabled that, everything was fine and the phone was blazing fast.

Re: Prior iPhone 6 users, what do you love or miss switching to a Note 5?

The number one thing I missed while using the Note 5 was iMessage. Being able to easily send high resolution pics/gifs and videos and have seamless group messaging is important to me. I rarely use regular SMS and don't use any 3rd party messaging apps because 99% of my regular contacts all use iPhones and iMessage. If this isn't the case for you, then absolutely go for the Note 5!! Personally, I just can't deal with the limitations of regular SMS texting.

Touch ID (Way more consistent and faster on an iPhone) and 128gb of storage.

Re: Prior iPhone 6 users, what do you love or miss switching to a Note 5?

I had the iPhone 6 Plus for only a few days - major glitches freezing red screens auto reboots after an IOS Update. Switched then to 6s as my work only supports iphones. I still have that phone but went out and got my Note 5. Have always liked the notes and have had all of them except the Note 4. I like not having to hook it up to the PC for certain apps and things to work / upload properly. I think the Note 5 is a great fit for my work needs and use it more often than the 6s by far. Only have the 6s because it's free through work.

That's one of the things I liked better on the Note 5. I thought that Touch ID was too sensitive on the Phone 6S. The fingerprint reader on the Note 5 is perfect. But, I will say that I miss the lightning connector.

Re: Prior iPhone 6 users, what do you love or miss switching to a Note 5?

I miss how TouchID was utilized more in apps and how fast it was. But that's really it. For the past few years I've gone back and forth between iOS and Android, and I'm finally back home.

Re: Prior iPhone 6 users, what do you love or miss switching to a Note 5?

Thank you everyone for your input!

TouchID or a fingerprint reader not being integrated into the apps is a downside, but having it there to open the phone is key. Think I can live with that.

iMessage not a deal breaker. Most texts I send are text, pictures occasionally to my wife or sister and not sending them SMS is easily manageable.

Worried on the battery life. I never get a day out of the iPhone, last and only phone that ever did that for me was the 8330. On the quick charging, does it quick charge automatically once it is plugged in or only if plugged into a special quick charging get up?

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

Apple and samsung just need to get together and make the perfect phone collaboration and all the problems will be solved.

As ridiculous as that suggestion may initially seem, it would be an awesome device! A joint venture like Sony and Ericsson of old...

Re: Prior iPhone 6 users, what do you love or miss switching to a Note 5?

Just came from the iPhone 6. I miss the battery life, iMessage, and integration of TouchID into apps. By the end of the day on the iPhone I would have 50-60%. On the Note 5 I'll have 40-50%.This is even after me trying to optimize it for 2 weeks. iMessage is really convenient as the people I text most have iPhones. I was also shocked to find that TouchID is not integrated more into apps. Its a HUGE hassle to have to enter my banking password if I want to quickly check my balances.

It took a while for me to get used to the size but mostly I'm use to it now. I was using my iPhone 6 naked but I HAD to put a case on the Note 5. I have a slim case on it and unfortunately it made it even bigger.

One thing I LOVE is the screen!

You would need to use the included or an alternative fast charger (9v / 1.6A)

I know your pain trust me. I am also getting invested into Apple's ecosystem, but I am also invested into Google's as well. For now, an iPhone/iPad combination satisfies my needs because Apple has access to EVERYONE'S ecosystem, so I'm never without. I just need to get off this loaner phone with 16GB and get another

That is a strength of iOS. It's compatible with a multitude of services. However, so is Android. Actually, Android is compatible with every thing except Apple services. But, if you are using Google services, having a tighter integration with Android is a great way to go.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I'm really thinking pretty hard about going back to iOS. While I love stock Android, it still leaves something to be desired for me. I can't quite put my finger on it. And I can't quite explain what it is that is stopping me from switching. I'm just growing tired of always looking for the next big thing with Android and spending too many hours researching and too much money wasted on buying and selling phones.

It will happen with iOS as well. Once you get into the habit of switching you will always find a reason to do it again. I get that itch after a few weeks and I start noticing all of the things that I don't like about the device I have. And I notice all of the awesome features of other phones. This happens over and over.

Oh I know. But I think that's the better OS to stop the switching. Less devices to tempt me. Less action in the forums, too, which help my problem.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

That's what I did. Way too many times switching. I do like Android but I really am hooked on iOS. I seemed to always keep looking for the newest Android to try. Then end up going back to iOS. I know people talk about iMessage but it's just great getting full HD videos from friends and family along with high resolution pics. Now my carrier has WiFi calling on the iPhones which is a huge plus for me. Really need that at home when I'm located in my office in the basement and some bad service areas around work. When I found out Rogers was going to enable it I knew I was going to switch back because I know they have no plans on doing that for Android anytime soon. Now they just enabled VoLTE on the 6S last week. So everything is great. Apple Pay is finally launching in Canada within the next few weeks also. Even though I really do like Android and all the features the Note has I wanted to go back regardless. It's a platform that is so easy and yes I get some annoyances with it but I have a good amount of Apple products so everything ties together so nicely.

Maybe. But then you come to the Android forums. And you hear everyone's testimony with other devices. And you may come across features that other Android smartphones have that your iPhone does not. And you are intrigued. A few YouTube videos. A trip to Bestbuy to check it out in person. And all of a sudden your mind starts to work out scenarios on how you can obtain a brand new device. You can open another line. Switch carriers because they will pay your ETF or the remainder of your financing agreement. The scene is set, and all you need is an excuse. Then you read an article on iMore that Apple servers are down. iMessage is temporarily not working. Justification and the timing is perfect. So you pick up your new Android phone. New case, screen protector, wireless charger. This is the phone you needed, you read wanted. You have switched over all of your services to Google. You are on the forums at Android Central. Life is good. You look at your iPhone and wonder why you bought it in the first place. Because clearly the Android phone you now have is where you were supposed to be all along. Then... out of the blue, your girlfriend wants to FaceTime you for some "adult time ". You can't. And she doesn't want to go through the rigmarole of downloading Hangouts and accepting your invitation and so forth. Moment ruined. Someone sends you a pic, it doesn't come through because you are in your office with no signal just wifi. If you had iMessage the picture would have come through fine. You are still within your 14 day window is the thought that pervades your mind. You toil with it. You don't want to switch yet again. People have already noticed you have gone back to Android after a brief stint with your iPhone. You may have even bashed the iPhone a bit on the forums. You had already successfully changed your signature to something cool like, "Note in my house!" Can't switch back now. But you are bothered. Day 13, you take your phone back. A day early just in case you have counted your days wrong. You get the iPhone. Again. Different color this time so it doesn't feel like the exact phone you left 13 days earlier. Case, screen protector, out the door. First thing you do? Fire up IMore. first article, Batterygate. Ugh.

The struggle is real.

Record rate of Android users switching to iPhone | iMore may/may not help. I'm within the 14 day window, and with both kids and most of the broader family on iOS; the Apple ecosystem tractorbeam pull is getting stronger. Note 5 is awesome so far, but do I need it when the 6+ works perfectly fine? For me, iMessage, AirDrop, and Family Sharing for sure are a few key reasons to not go beyond the 14 day window. I can and do use a full Apple and Google ecosystem on iOS. Have to decide soon.

Re: Prior iPhone 6 users, what do you love or miss switching to a Note 5?

My love affair with my iPhone 6 is coming to a close. Just to many glitches and the Genius bar has proven to be a waste of time. All Apple products are perfect they feel. This phone has go to go!

Loving the Note 5. Looking for input from prior iPhone 6 users who purchased a Note 5 on things they really love (like has the pen proved as useful as it looks?) or things they miss?

I think that Apple missed the mark on the 6s, so I'm looking to go to the "dark side". Hoping to get some real world user input to see if what I think is great about the Note 5 is really great, or potentially a different phone be a better fit for me.

Thanks!
It's been almost two weeks since i've switched from my trusty iphone 6 (64gig) to the gold note 5.
What I really miss from my iphone is mostly imessage and the much better fingerprint reader ( in my opinion ).

I've also encountered a big problem with my new phone, it sometimes freezes when trying to unlock it. From what i read this is a well known problem without a fix. Hopefully this will be taken care of soon with the next update.

I love the screen, multitasking, looks and feel of it without a case.
Overall I think I've made the right decision by switching, will certainly keep it for at least a year until the new iphone comes out.
