Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

The 2 phone lifestyle :D

Yeah, and right when I finally got to where I could leave the Palm at home, changes at work made it so I need to have two phones on different carriers, AND a pager, AND a laptop with a wireless 4G card. When I'm not on-call and have a day off, I carry just one phone and even leave the case at home. I feel so free!

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

A tablet would just be redundant for me. No need for one.

Note in my house!
My wife loves iPads for games and puzzles. I don't like games or puzzles. I seldom use either of our iPads. If I do it is just for browsing or email. Have you ever tried Puffin browser to get flashplayer on iPad or iPhone? I wonder if it works smoothly? I need flash player access for work believe it or not.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

Okay, this is mildly hilarious. My wife is an iOS girl. She has had a 3Gs, 4s and now a 5s. She is likely to get a 6 or 6s. She also has an iPad Mini 2. This allows me to have some iota of exposure to the Apple-verse. I don't love iOS. I've gone from an HTC Inspire to an LG Optimus G, LG G3 and now an LG G4 (the latter I was fortunate enough to win). I use the G4 as my phone and the G3 as a back up for things that don't require a cellular connection. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 which I don't love. It was cheap and the size is nice but it only has 8GB of internal (my largest apps won't run off the SD card) and is stuck on Kit Kat. I'm not really a tablet guy so I put up with it.

The items in Android/LG's con list have just never negatively affected my daily life in such a way that I've thought about going over to Apple. I DO like the looks of the high resolution iMacs (I can always run dual OS's on one) but I'm more of a laptop guy and can get much more bang for the buck from a Lenovo or Asus.

Still...Apple is always in the news (and sitting round the house) so I get the whole wanting to live like the other half (or 20% depending on how you measure market share) lives in regards to technology.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I would have to agree that a phablet can't replace a tablet.

For me it can. When I started using the Note 5, I had no more use for my iPad Air 2. But, I do understand that this may not be the case for everyone. One of the reasons I wanted the Note 5 was because I wanted to condense my tech. So far, I have been successful at doing that.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I now have a phone-case-collecting addiction that needs taming.

Ugh that is the worst. I need group for this or something. It's all Amazon's fault. Spigen's and Incipios for under $15 is like free-basing.

I now have my case addiction under control. I was up to 33 cases, but sold a bunch of them and now I'm around 21 cases. I'm done.

I guess it's what you get used to. I kind of forced myself to use iOS for the sake of my wife and getting away from android. I have learned to tolerate it and like it to a point but there are days I miss customizing and tweaking my phone. One thing that annoys me, and maybe it's because I don't know quite how to use iOS, is not being able to organize my apps alphabetically. Or at least to the point of actually being able to see what apps I have installed. I miss an app drawer. Moving around icons on the home screens on iOS is really cumbersome. I usually leave the apps, for the most part, where they are originally placed at the time of installing them. It makes finding and seeing what apps I have difficult. I know there's the whole search feature by swiping down as well as swiping all the way to the left most screen. I find that I really don't like using search. Also I rarely use Siri for anything. Mainly for playing around. I definitely don't rely on it for daily use and help.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

Being an android fan, I made the switch recently from iphone 5 to note 5, and i was generally happy. Hardware-wise this is an exceptional phone. But software is another story. I can't believe im going to say this but i miss iOS's sophistication. I still prefer android better than iOS or do i?

In my experience with iOS users, it is this very phenomenon that makes iMessage so popular for them. Once they install another cross-platform app on their phone, the icon is on the last page of the home screen and promptly forgotten. To compound things, if they don't go into settings and promptly set up notifications upon install, the app might as well not exist because they will never see anything from the app to remind them. I do think some apps ask you if you want to set up notifications on install but a lot do not, seems like it should be an OS thing anyway.

Buying cases can quickly get out of control. I don't want to know how much money I have wasted on cases over the years.

One thing that annoys me, and maybe it's because I don't know quite how to use iOS, is not being able to organize my apps alphabetically.

Bugs me too. As an experiment, I did the Setting / General / Reset / Reset Home Screen Layout thing which put the iOS apps in default locations and third-party apps alphabetically. It seemed silly at first, but now I'm kinda liking it. Still not as convenient as having both contextual Home Screens and an alphabetical App Drawer, but it's a start. I normally Search for apps to open, but I don't think it works to find apps for deleting - so I'm trying this out.

As to switching back and forth, yup, me too. I'll spend weeks on iOS and swear I'll never change... then get bored and go back to my Moto X for weeks at a time. Repeat.

iOS has been "sticking" more and more for me though. You'd think there'd be more to play with in Android with all it's customizations, but I'm finding myself even more fascinated lately trying to figure out how to best use iOS and OSX. I actually think iOS is *more* complex than Android - once you dig past the obvious things. Throw in iPad and MacBook integration, add a sprinkling of xCode, and it's an interesting "world" to explore ;)

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

I have had BB10 for almost 2 year and now bought a LG G4 this past weekend to retire my Q10 but I still have been using the iPad for my tablet and then switching off and on with the wifes old iPhone 5s. IOS is okay for certain things but definitely gets old to me after awhile so then I switch devices for awhile.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

Well sounds like you got a choice to make. I went from a Z30 which I still use when I do the switch. But i have to say,.. I picked up a Note 5 and can't put it down. It has amazed me with how nice and durable the device is. The samsung guy threw it up in the air and it dropped from 8 feet on concrete flooring it's impact point was the corner. No damage at all. The Note 5 is quick and has never lagged or stalled. But ultimately what will make you happy in the end. Good Luck!!!

Why not use folders to organize them?

"The samsung guy threw it up in the air and it dropped from 8 feet on concrete flooring" Really??? Stop right there.

Re: Aggravated with iOS /Android back and forth

What do you think about the photo quality of both?

I have an iPhone 6s and a Galaxy s6. Samsung takes a better picture, without a doubt. I also switch between devices/platforms and I am happy with Apple until I take a picture. Then I am so disgusted with the photo quality that I swap the Sim card shortly there after!

Maybe I am missing something, but what is the draw to iMessage? To me, it is just a texting app/platform. Same as Verizon messages, stock messaging on TV, etc.... Am I missing something concerning iMessage?
