Note 7 Has A Screen Defect (phone cracked after being dropped)

Re: more fragile then my note 5

It's very brittle. Took mine out of my pocket to find the top left corner was cracked. Never dropped or suffered any kind of impact. My brother's phone slipped out of his pocket and fell between the car seat and cracked. There is a problem with this screen and i honestly believe that we will see more and more reports as the days go by.

Re: more fragile then my note 5

That sucks.
And I thought the S7 Edge was fragile.
Looks like you still rocking the stock screen protector like me. :p

Re: more fragile then my note 5

I have to agree there is a problem with this screen I'm sure samsimg with admit it once they have a fix an say they have adjusted their manufactureing process like they did with the S7 active

Re: more fragile then my note 5

at my case and I and have been going out and look at some other cases they don't offer protection around this specific area and easy access to the S Pen. If the case gives you easy access to the S Pen there's so much looseness and movement that if you drop it there's a chance to actually exposed Corner may hit the ground on the ones that have a more tighter fit around that particular corner its a little rough to get the S Pen out on

Re: more fragile then my note 5

I believe the Active , it came down to QC of assembly. With the glass on the Note 7. The edges are not protected being flush on the frame... it's curved on both sides and it's going to be the weak point. On top of that both sides are like that so possible to crack front and back. This front will just need more care than others.

I have to agree there is a problem with this screen I'm sure samsimg with admit it once they have a fix an say they have adjusted their manufactureing process like they did with the S7 active

Corning's new Gorilla Glass 5 is meant to survive epic smartphone drops | The Verge

"What will define the performance of the overall device on those types of corner drops is stiffness of the phone design, but also how the glass is packaged," Bayne said. Much of this is dependent on what's known as the "proudness" of the glass, which refers to how high above the phone the glass sits. "If it sits up really high, we call that a proud design. If it's protected by the bezel of the design then, it's - not proud. So if you have a device that has a proud design, that one wouldn't perform as well as one that had a different design."

"And as we go to 3D designs, the edge is more exposed ... and you have to be sensitive to that," he added.

Re: more fragile then my note 5

I have no idea what they are saying lol.... and they take an axe to the phone near the end and just multilate it ... But check out the vid at 5:30 mark where they do a drop test at pocket height... 3ft? Again, at the corner/edges :-\
imo this phone needs a case with raised bezels to give the sides and corners more protection.

Re: more fragile then my note 5

This device definitely needs a case to protect the screen

Re: more fragile then my note 5

That's a good question I don't really know thing is I know several people with the Galaxy S7 curve who are clumsy as hectic and dropped their phone regularly some without cases and it hasn't cracked or shattered which is why I'm kind of wondering if something they're doing with manufacturing the Curve for the Note 7 with this Gorilla Glass 5 is not making it weaker than it should be

One thing is sure gg5 is less scratch resistant than gorilla glass 4 but more shatter proof...to gain some u loose some..
To my luck i dropped my s7 edge flat on the screen from waist height and it dint crack...soo sometimes luck is a major factor...

Re: more fragile then my note 5

With the curved glass and "proud" design of the phone... Gain some lose some... You loose all the advantage of GG5 over 4... Except maybe think it that lucky cause it would probably be weaker if it were GG4.

I'm not worried about scratches. Looking at my old phones in my desk... I1. I4s, etc...I've never really scratched a screen in 10 years. Never cracked one... Except my daughter cracked my LG G2 first month I loaned it to her lol. That's what I don't want in a $900 phone to be unlucky and then try to live with and see a cracked phone for next couple of years.

Re: more fragile then my note 5

At the 3 minutes mark mentioning friends with Note 7... "cracked while in his pocket."
And pic again shows... cracked at the corner/curve. :-\

Man I am dying to pull the trigger on getting one but the sensible side of me is wanting to wait and see more posts/reports.

The phone is a big seller for Samsung so there are a ton of people out there with them. People are more willing to voice their opinion when they have, or someone they know has, a bad experience. I've had mine since launch. No screen protector and I've kept it in a slim case or no case. No problems so far. Not even scratches. I bought the Samsung Protection Plus for peace of mind. Not because of this specific phone but just because it's something I've done with all of my phone's. New flagship smartphones are expensive as heck so a little insurance can save you in the end.
Anyways, I view this as being similar to the whole 'bend gate' thing with the iPhone 6 plus. I had one on one of my lines from launch until a week ago and had it on me every day, never had it bend. It was sat on a few times, on accident of course, and kept in a tighter front pocket at times that put a decent amount of pressure on it when sitting but it never bent. Not even a little bit and I'm 365 pounds so when I accidently sat on it a few times it surely should have taken the shape of my butt according to a bunch of people lol. I think a lot of it with the cracking screens could be luck of the draw but it's a small amount of people it seems to be happening to, and the majority it has happened to seem to have dropped their phone which is a gamble with any phone. Even with my iPhone 6 plus I dropped it several times in the thin leather Apple case on concrete/asphalt and was lucky enough to pick it up and have it still be in one piece yet my brother dropped his in a much thicker more protective case from a few feet and cracked his screen.
I can tell you that so far I am really enjoying the Note 7. More so than my GS7E and iPhone 6 plus. I haven't scratched or broken it yet and don't plan to but crap happens. I got the insurance for when that crap happens. If nothing else I will file a claim in 2 years so I can pass down or sell a refurbished/new one that will have a new battery and be good to go for a few more years.

Almost forgot. My Note 7 fell off my gun safe. Close to a 6 foot fall with a thinner case on to laminate flooring and came out unscathed. It landed on the corner then bounced and landed face down. I had a flash of reading horror stories thinking it for sure would be cracked. Picked it up and looked it over. Not a scratch.

Re: more fragile then my note 5

I also believe as you mention that in many cases that no matter how strong a device just can be the unlucky dude where more damage might happen then the next guy. And I personally don't believe in putting my phone in my back pocket especially and didn't think much of bendgate since you really had to try and bend the phone to warp it. But it did happen enough where Apply felt enough that the phone needed to be more robust for longevity that they did make a change in the S models and in this article says the frame was almost 3x stronger to bending than original.

iPhone 6S won't bend like the iPhone 6 - Tech Insider

That change and change in board design said to be reasons why the S phones are NOT experiencing the new issue of "touch disease"

An internal defect is causing tons of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to break

So I think nothing wrong with looking into this issue of the GG5... many may not experience issues now... but if there is a noticeable amount of people reporting scratches and cracks early... it gets the attention of Samsung to look at and if they can see something make any adjustments needed during production. Many times little changes are made that most people don't even hear about during the start of any new production run. It's only been a week so nothing wrong with seeing these posts and see whether over a month... longer... if this really is an issue. I'd definitely like to know while I am still in "shopping" mode for my next phone.

The cracking issue concerns me over the scratching issue. I am more concerned that over the couple of years I will probably have the phone I don't want an issue where the glass really is weak and over time and regular use and pressure to the screen that it cracks easier over time.

At almost $900 retail, I can't afford to get a phone every year and will need this phone to be able to last at least a couple of years and should expect it at this price.
