Note 8: DILEMMA

Although I am biased because I already have a N8 and love it, if I were you, I would wait for the iPhone X, although it will probably be a long wait. Try the Iphone X and you will have 2 weeks to decide whether to keep it or exchange it for a N8. You already have the Apple watch, a Mac computer, and an IPAD. It would be logical to try the iPhone X, first, unless you really need an S-pen, in which case don't wait. You may as well get the N8, now.

Bingo! I watched all my friends on here stress over their pre-orders while I just waited for "Release Day" - I walked into my AT&T Store, bought mine, had them set it up and took it home. No stress... all I had to do was some app maintenance when I got home and reset my email program and I was back up and running! Also, doesn't it bother you at all the way that Apple comes out on Release Day and makes it sound like a few of the features (that Samsung has had for years), are revolutionary new features? I love the Note 8... as Nike says - just do it!

Haha not all your friends. I had no stress preordering. As I was one of the lucky ones that got my note8 thru Verizon on 9/5:D

I went from an iPhone 6s+ and AW Gen 0 to Note 8 and Gear S3 Frontier and am quite happy with the switch.

I waited until the Apple keynote and was pretty disappointed. The iPhone lineup has really gone off the Steve Jobs path I think. Way too many models, and confusion. The iPhone 8 would be a bit of a bore to me as after putting it in a case there would be hardly any difference.

The iPhone X seems to be a half done experiment. No plus model for those of us that like something larger. The "all in" bet on FaceID instead of including TouchID also is not likely to work out well in my opinion. Even if it is very reliable, there are lots of use cases I'd prefer to use my fingerprint. And that notch... not well done at all. Then there is the lack of a headphone jack "courage" crap. Samsung can fit a jack in their phones, but Apple can't... what a crock.

I've gone from all Apple to hardly any Apple left in my world, so this was the next logical step. Ditched my Mac for a Surface Pro when the new one came out.

But the real surprise in all this was the Gear S3. I was really thinking I'd miss the Apple Watch. I wore it for 2 years every day. Within a day of getting the Gear S3 I like it a lot more. The UI and rotating dial is a lot better and it actually looks like a watch.

I bought mine at AT&T, for $300 off with trade in of a junk phone and the watch for $49.

welcome to a world where you can make it your own . I to have a gear S3 paired with ether my note 8 are s8 plus a great combination

Though they may share similar dna there not the same . As you keep stating on posts . I own both s8 plus an the note 8 . They don't look the same are feel the same in hand not even close. Although is still love my 8 plus the note 8 is on a whole new level of performance compared to the s8 plus. There reason why many who had the s8 traded up for the note 8 . An I haven't even talked about the added benefit of a dual camera. An s pen an extra ram . I'd encourage you to at least own ether of the 2 before passing judgment. Funny your endorsing an phone the iPhone X that's not even been tested yet ...just saying

Funny you think I'm endorsing a phone I didn't mention.

And yeah, I don't own the S8 or N8, but I've used the S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, N2, N3, N4, N5. I'm not one of those trolls looking at the specs and saying their the same phone.

You admit they have similar DNA, physically there are differences but there are still very similar phones and user experiences. Without knowing why he didn't like the S8, there is a good possibility he won't like the Note 8 for the same reason.

I'm not saying get the iPhone because he doesn't like the S8, I'm simply trying to state it's a similar phone and that he may not like it for the same reason he doesn't like the S8.

I will chime in as I am in the EXACT same boat. I am HEAVILY invest in I message and Find My Friends. I also use FaceTime literally every single day. I don't have a PC as I ditched my Mac for a ipad Pro 10.5. It simply works for me in terms of web, video, and simple photo editing.

About 2 weeks ago I found a great Note 8 deal on Swappa. I bought it and played with it for 3 hours before I tried to activate it with VZW and discovered it was reported stolen and blacklisted.

However I did notice a few things in the short 3 hours I had my Note 8 and my Iphone 7plus.
The Note 8 might be faster however the animations make it feel "slow".
For example. I downloaded Gboard for a keyboard that I use on my Ipad and Iphone. When I type very fast on the keyboard it would lag. I couldn't figure this out. On the iphone it was fast and fluid. On the note it lagged and was very very annoying that I had to adjust my typing/tapping on the screen speed.

One thing I noticed off the batt that was very strange. I noticed it on my Note 5 as well. Apple/ios seems to be the most fluid operating system available on any device.

I am preordering the Iphone X. Will make a decision then if I want to go back to the Note 8.

Look at it this way. The iPhone X is a 1st Gen product. Who knows what it will be like, good or bad. The N8 is a highly refined version of an established product. As long as it doesn't explode you know what you're getting.

This.

And what's even more ironic is that iPhone 8 Pluses are swelling this year.

I also read the screen brightness on the iPhone X will not even come close to matching the note

I did not have the experience you described.

IMO, the iphone 7 Plus is slower than the Note 8. In fact, after using the Note 8 for 2 weeks, and then attempting to use my iPhone again, the animations on the iPhone were annoying. (And I cannot stand iOS 11 - but that's another story).

I don't experience any lag on my Note 8 and I have NEVER said that about any Samsung phone I've owned in the past - including the S8+.

I am truly impressed with the performance of the Note 8. I am not at all excited for the iPhone X. I thought about buying it because I am a cellphone junky, but I am seriously re-thinking that decision.

Two things frist buy from a dealer new are used that has history never buy brand new flagships on Craigslist never, secondly you played with the note 8 for all of three hours an you made that concussion that there's lag . Every phone has to set in before it's fully ironed out even iPhones, usually take a day are two an longer for the battery to be optimized. There are plenty of trends here on the note 8 forum of ax iPhone 7 owners jumping over to the note 8 . An to a man they all say the note seems faster fact is the iPhone has more animation then most phones. The iPhone x will have a bunch of teething issue I'm sure . Heck there all glass iPhone 8 are up to10 confirmed swollen phones an that design is 5 years old . I'd say buy a new note 8 (from a dealer) an try it again . Trust me it's a beast of a phone good luck

There's a couple of settings in "Developer Options" that will take care of the Lag issue you saw and smooth out the Note 8 for your operating pleasure. Turn "Window Animation Scale", "Transition Animation Scale" and "Animator Duration Scale" to 0.5x or even "off" and it'll smooth things out dramatically! Of course, to get "Developer Options" on your phone if you haven't already, I think it's <About Phone> then tap <Android Version> like 7 or 8 times until it says "Developer Options is Enabled" - someone correct me if I'm wrong on the item to tap???

I knew that setting was somewhere I was trying to find it earlier to say the same thing!

I also use gboard daily and have never seen it lag.

The Note can do everything the iPhone can, well except iMessage I suppose, but the iPhone can't come close to doing what the Note can.

Brilliantly put.....and why I've been with Android since iPhone 4 and second Note now

Still haven't bought one. Still on the fence. But watching this thread with the popcorn in my lap and enjoying all the discussion!!

Didn't you see the post about how SHINY they are? Come on, ALL the COOL kids have em...

You know what I love? I was just at the post office and whipped out my Note 8 to pay and the guy said I don't know if that's going to work, the last 4 people... *Sale completes*
Oh wow!
Then I get to explain they probably had inferior Apple pay and this is Samsung pay!

You know what I love? At the shop/getting fuel, or wherever I just scan my Samsung gear s3 watch and it's paid!

if your heavily invested in the ios ecosystem I'd suggest waiting and trying the iPhone x out for a week and if you don't like it return it and get the note 8.

Personally I'd just go for the note 8, only because I use both android and ios, and believe the note 8 will be the best smartphone on the market up until the note 8 is released. I'm currently on a s8 plus debating the upgrade
