Did anyone know that you can get insurance for your phone through your Homeowners policy? I havr a friend who just cracked his S8+ screen and said that he already had the phone signed up with his insurance comapany (Auto-Owners.) He said it was $25 for the entire year, which covered any damage, lost, stolen, etc. with no deductible, up to $850. Im gonna see if I can get mine with Secura now... I believe this is called a Floater Endorsement.

Not all insurance companies offer it, and floater or not, it's still a claim against your homeowners insurance. I personally leave homeowners insurance for major claims. Insurance companies track claims and underwriters determine if your a good or bad risk.

I have Verizon - and it's all covered under their insurance (including loss!)

Gotcha. I know that my friend has worked for insurance companies for years, so I'll see what he knows about this.

Checked with my home owners insurance last year. It is no longer offered. When it was, it was separate from the home owners coverage.

The only problem with them is that it is quite expensive, over $120 a year.
Yes I agree I am overcharged with Verizon... But how can you complain so much - for full replacement for something that costs you ~$900 that you only keep it for 2-3 years anyway? You are talking about $10 per MONTH... or ~$0.33 per day? Come on....!

You pay a monthly fee plus a $150 deductible when you file a claim.

I was complaining because Id rather not have to spend an extra $120+ every year on my $660 phone. $25-30 a year is a lot more reasonable, Imo.

I've used carrier (AT&T) insurance on my phones for probably the last 5 years or so. Still haven't had to file a claim myself, but my g/f and my daughter have and I think in both cases the deductible was like $120. Also in both cases they received brand new phones on the spot rather than having to send in for repair so there's really no complaint on my end.

It costs like $9/month which comes out to $108/year. At that rate, if you need to file a claim to repair/replace just 1 high end phone over the course of a decade, then you've broke even.

Yes but the deductible also is now way lower. It's $19 or $29, something like that. And the monthly premium covers an unlimited number of lines, not just one line at that price. I believe it will do three replacements at those fees, you just tell them which phone when you file the claim...

I agree. With Verizon, they give you these options and you don't even have to return the old phone until later: you go to a location the repair company specifies, or they ship it to you with a return label for you, or they will come to a location you specify at a time and date you specify (your office or your home, anywhere) and they will do some repairs on the spot - like screen replacements, etc. How can you beat that if they come to your home to sit at your dining room table to replace the screen for you?

Our insurance agent told us to only submit major claims meaning major money claims. Claims stay on your insurance for 3 years. Same with auto. He would tell us not to claim phone damages for sure. I'm following his advice.

Thanks. Just think about it. If you're a person that will file for everything including small claims like a cell phone, insurance companies will consider you a high risk and cancel you. It's just common sense, but some will argue it's a rider and doesn't count against your insurance. All claims will count against you as your insurability.

Your home owner's policy might cover you against theft and drops, but I would doubt that it covers against other problems with your phone, such as it won't charge wirelessly or it needs battery replacement or a new charge port. That's why the rider is so cheap.
