Note 8 or V30

Why would you even consider returning a Note 8 for the V30? The Note 8 has more RAM, bigger pixels in the camera, better front facing camera, Samsung Pay, S Pen, better UI, better screen...that's like asking if you should trade in your Lamborghini for a Ford Pinto.

Ergonomics are an issue for many folks on the Note 8. I'm a Samsung guy and the curved screens and fingerprint scanner placement has me looking elsewhere.

Side by side out of the box, the lag on the Note (which I really wanted to like), is obvious.

This sets the Note8 apart from everything else on the market:

Comparing it even to an LG makes no sense at this point.

If all that is available on the Note8 is not for you and you just want a normal high end phone then get the V30. If you want something that's more like a Phablet and PC in your pocket, get the Note8.

You can't go wrong with either but it makes absolutely no sense to compare the two at this point. I have been using DeX with my Note8 for a few days and it's made me realise that there is no comparison to it.

The closest is HP's Elite X3 +Dock with Continuum, but even WP Central admit Samsung did a better job, and that's with DeX on S8, DeX with Note8 has more features and 2GB extra RAM to play with.

This is the very reason for this question. I struggled with the size and shape of this phone. I finally today just took the plunge and got my V30. It will be here in a few days and I'm excited to have it. I know people couldn't understand the need for the question, but I really struggled with the size of this phone over it's functionality. I love the Note 8 performance and love many of the features but the size and the fragility of the phone was my hang up and I appreciate everyone's help in just letting me know their opinions.

Call quality, reception, ease of use for v30 vs the size of note, curved screen. There are many reasons people would choose the v30 over the note. Just like there are reasons people would choose the note. It's great that Android gives us different experiences and features.

Fragility of the note 8? But the v30 is all glass too. Lol

Actually the V series and the last G6 showed much more durability in similar tests just type it into YouTube. Plus the infinity display with the curved edges makes the phone more prone to possible screen damage because of the design..once again look it up. I thought I would be able to deal with it but I just want a more reasonable phone in size and durability.

Agreed that the Note and the edge makes it a durability issue. The edge screen gives an additional two long edges that can make an initial impact when dropped.

I had the note 8 for a few days. It's a great phone with a fantastic screen. I did not notice any lags. But in end, I will be getting the V30. The note 8 is quite a hefty phone. I tried one in a T-Mobile store, and I was sold. Great size, fantastic camera. One feature I didn't try was the always on display.

Otherwise, I'm sure the screen isn't as good as Samsung's, but it is a great screen nonetheless. The only question, then, is when to buy. I may wait until there are great deals or a steep price drop.

You are paying for the S-Pen & the extra 2 GB of RAM with the Note 8... I looked at the V30 at my local VZW store and I have to say I really like... Feels good in the hand and seemed responsive!... Also, don't forget about the second year of warranty from LG!... gonna wait for a price drop... Probably hit the upgrade button in January or February...

The V30 has slower performance over the Note 8 already tested. Also, it doesn't have near the features Samsung does. Like Bixby, Spen, Samsung Pay, Live Photo, not as good of a screen, and so on. It doesn't even come with headphones in the US wireless provider versions. LOL.

I'm not buying either one so it doesn't matter to me which one is the better phone.
The speed of both is measurable but not really discernable in real world use. The Note doesn't have more features, it has different features. Headphones that are included are not a great reason to chose one over the other. The Note is a great choice for you and the millions that buy it, however the V30 is no slouch when it comes features and performance.

Huh there both made out of glass so that's a wash the note 8 has more features an the s pen, as far as price most carriers have a $300 trade in program so actually the note is cheaper . An if you already own the note 8 I don't see the point . Pound for pound the n8 is the better Phone. You guys need to stop chasing brands obviously you wanted to n8 are else you wouldn't have bought it the v30 is not a upgrade

Good thing I don't buy phones by weight class.

You are paying for a heck of a lot more than that especially in the software.

I will say that my work phone S7 edge is due for an upgrade in February. . The v30 is at the top for its replacement.

I estimate price drop by December. That's when I'll hit the upgrade button.

I couldn't decide...so, I got them both! lol. Each have their own advantages.

Phones I currently own:

Note 8
V30
S8 Plus
V20
iPhone 7 Plus

The note 8 is my daily driver, and v30 as my personal line...the rest are there for, well, backups I guess. I'm like a Horder, its hard to get rid of them when I'm done. lol

I sure can't put mine down. Best overall experience for me and I've had all the latest 2017's

The note 8. Hands down, is my favorite.

I would have to agree that the Note 8 is amazing, when I posted this question originally I was asking for the opinions of those that had the devices and to see what people said. I posted it in both the Note 8 and here forums to get equal voices. I really feel the better software experience will be the Note but can be fixed with simple elements like Nova Launcher. Where as for the camera I will say is probably going to be a toss between the awesome live focus on the Note and the wide angle of the V30. I love my Note 8 but really it's just too big for me and infinity screen as beautiful as it is just isn't what I thought it would be for me. The Note 8 is indeed a beautiful phone phone that is the absolute awesome upgrade from my Note 5, but I feel like I need a change from the Note line and the V30 is an obvious direction to take. I appreciate everyone's help.
