Note 8 signal

I think it's my area. My son informed me he has 2 bars and it takes a while to send texts

I was going to suggest you use the new SIM that came with your Note8, but you said you did. My next suggestion would be to make sure the new SIM is registered with AT&T so they know that should be active and you might get a better signal. I am currently using my N8 on Wi-Fi with no SIM in it and I have 3 bars, lol

I don't know where you are or if any of you are in the NYC area - but frankly ATT signal strength around the city has been mediocre and often abysmal for me. Every time I call ATT, they tell me to mark it on their app which does nothing- they never investigate or improve. It's like this with all the the last few Galaxy phones I had so I thought it was maybe the phone, but then it also wasn't great on my iPhone 7 Plus. Anyway, just wanted to rant about ATT signal.. :)

The Note 7 did have weak signal on Verizon as well. That besides the recall was the one big weakness. The Note 4 was noticeably better by about seven dBm signal. That is huge if in weaker areas.

Good to know. S6 edge plus was a beast with signal strength from Sprint. The note 8 better tap into NASA as far as I'm concerned.

Verizon has been ok so far. It connects to my wifi soso but it's weak, it connects fine to the stronger wifi at my daughter's.

Check your settings under More networks. It may be different in the Note 8 settings. I'm using a Note 4. Make sure you have LTE/GSM/UMTS set and not Global or LTE/CDMA by some chance. Or this has nothing to do with it and I'm talking out my a**.

LTE/CDMA is the recommended setting for Verizon. I also personally reviewed and confirmed this with the head systems engineer from VZ here in Denver. We did a check on the neighboring towers driving around in his specialized antenna and computer filled vehicle and you could see the strength of signal increase with the LTE/CDMA setting.

That's what I meant. I type and don't proofread before submitting.

I think the OP is referring to the data signal. The Note 7 as example was pretty weak.

I realized that after I posted it, but the data signal with Verizon has been pretty good, too. My first Note 7 was great, the second not so much, and the Pixel hardly ever connected properly to data. My Note 8 is doing ok.

Yes I was referring to data signal. I still have one tiny bar the majority of time and people are starting to tell me that I break up during conversations. I've resorted to turning on WiFi calling.

I've had about 2 to 3 bars occasionally 1. But no one ever complained that I was breaking up. Everyone I talked to yesterday complained I was breaking up.

Well, I did have an issue sending a text on AT&T this morning, I rebooted the phone and it went before I could even check it. I have both Note 8 & S8+ on my desk now and both have the same signal levels.

Cheers,
BR
Living La Vida Note.... ;)

did you order through AT&T or direct from samsung. If it was AT&T i would maybe see if they would swap you out

The first thing I would do is take it to the AT&T store nearest you and explain the problem. Ask them to issue you a new SIM and activate it for you. Replacement SIMs are free and I've never had a rep not be happy for the opportunity to try to make things better.

I've had signal problems before and a new SIM and proper activation has made a difference.

In your specific case, if your other phones are getting 2 bars, it's very possible that the Note 8 radio is just weaker, which would be very unfortunate but I heard the same things about the Note 7 on a few threads. However, a new SIM and provisioning might make the towers offer you other frequencies that your old phone could not handle, and might possibly give you better signal.

It's worth a shot and won't cost you anything.

I live in the sticks in an aluminum-sided house and WiFi calling is great, isn't it? :)
