Note 9 is not a major upgrade from Note 8

I don't know why this is shocking to most people.

It never really is if you think about it, you need wait 2-3 years before we really see big changes.

To say that a spec bump, bigger battery and bluetooth S-Pen and putting the FPS in the right place is an upgrade you're kidding yourself.

To me a major change is when we get a new design.

The OEM's are not basing phone designs on trying to get the super nerds to jump from the current flagship (Note 9) to the next (S10+)

I disagree (kind of) that upgrading from the N8 is a bad idea. Yes, it's mostly the same, but the bigger battery actually does add up. Your phone dying at 5 or 6PM vs making it to the end of the day really does help. Also, the fingerprint scanner on the Note 8 was super inconvenient, the Note 9 fixed. Finally, I happen to really like the Blue phone/yellow S-Pen color combo, it's great.

Yes, I realize these are minor changes, but it's my money, so I'll upgrade when I want. And I'm on ATT's Next Every Year, so I just traded in my old Note 8, paid sales tax (and the early upgrade fee because I didn't want to wait the two months), and now my monthly next payments are just $2 more. So it's obviously less of a big deal for someone on a carrier trade-in/upgrade plan than someone who just buys the phone outright.

Still, the Note 8 was 90% perfect, the Note 9 is 99%. For some, it's not worth it, but personally it was.

I would suggest those holding Note 8 might wait for a while for the release of Huawei Mate 20 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus which Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh claimed that it's gonna be major upgrade.

Waiting for the second iteration to come out, or switching to a new manufacturer, is always a good way to go in terms of upgrading. :)

Agree with you. In my case, I ordered my Note 9 during pre-order which they bundle with Galaxy Gear then I sold the gear for about $250. The Note 9 cost me about $700++. Besides, I think my counter sell the cheapest Unlocked Note 9 in the world. Retail is about RM3699 which only cost USD900. That's the reason I pull the trigger to buy it. If not, I will wait for the announcement of Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

The battery was the best thing. Finally a phone that can last all day. I take of the charger at 7am and 1am in still like 20 percent. This is with 7 sot....over an hour of phone calls, Instagram, browsing,YouTube, email, texts , notes , etc. it's just amazing. what's the point of a phone this powerful if you need to limit use in fear of the battery dying. That is the game changer.

The increase is 700 mAh, so the pitiful 3300 mAh in Note 8 is bumped to 4000mAh. Which IMO is still too low.

I have two phones now, Samsung S8+ and the older Note 4 and really like both.

S8+ is much faster but do not like 1. edges, 2. built in battery and last but not least the 18.5:9 ratio.

Note 4 is actually a very nice phone, I run it with a ZeroLemon 10,000 battery so that gives me about a 7,000 mAh upgrade over stock battery, not 700mAh.

If they bumped the battery to twice what it is, I might consider it

I agree, N8 to N9 is not a major upgrade, and I agree that's it's a way to generate more sales. However, I upgraded from the note 8 and for me the minor improvements are welcome.

On my Android line, it was the Essential Phone, followed by the S9. I did use an S8 Active for a bit too, but mostly those 2 other phones.
ok. You were so disappointed with note 8 that you chose to use a phone with smaller screen, smaller battery, no headphone jack, no water proofing, slower processor......each to their own, I guess.

Slower processor? It was the same, and performance was better. Battery life was better, even with a physically smaller battery. I use airpods, and before that I had jaybirds and plantronics, almost never use the headphone jack.

What I did miss was the spen and Samsung pay, but not enough to use the Note 8. It was the first Note since the Note 3 that didn't get the majority of time as my daily driver. The Note 3 lagged so much I moved on from it about 2 months in, the Note 4 was my daily for 10 months straight, the Note 5 was my daily for a year straight (then i got the Note 7 which was then returned because of the exploding battery) and then off and on for another 2 years. I probably used my Note 5 more often than I did my 8 in the past year.

Oh & 6gb ram vs 4gb ram.....no wireless charging......each to their own, I guess
