Note 9 Light Leak!

Oh no, there have been quite a few complaints. The battery has been Guess-reported as average at best, and lets not forget if you beat on your phone with a razor knife the buttons might come out. Finally, there has been the guy who said the camera sucked in low light compared to his _____ (whatever) phone.

Update... I forgot the no S-Notes thread, and the no IR blaster comment I saw a few threads back. There is also a thread about how the screen isn't bright enough. People like to hate.

It's a feature called SamStrobe. Pop out the removable buttons and it turns your phone into a strobe light.

I like that. Or SamHue. They should market it I guess. Unfortunately they apparently can’t always replicate the effect.

I thought the OP was being sarcastic about the annoying, wasteful, stupid, great in only Samsung and the media's minds- curved display. You know, I make fun of the notch, but in a way, this is just as dysfunctionally, Samsung's notch.

Yep, the curves screw content up.

All good over here though that wouldn't bother me. Small trade off for the curved design.

Except the edge does have functions

This has happened with nearly ever curved display they've produced. I've had on the S7 Edge, S8 Plus, and my Note 8. It's almost the luck of the draw as to how bad it is. I did find that the DeepSea Blue model usually had less of this issue than the Black or Orchid Grey when dealing with the Note 8.

Honestly, I would just ignore it. This is a result of mass manufacturing. No point in sending back something based on aesthetics to possibly get something that DOES have something functionally wrong with it.

I can never see issues like this from a picture.

I can't really see the issue also, and I don't recall having any complaints about my Note 8 (sold). No issues on my much less curved OP6. I'd have to see the phone in person to decide if it was bothersome to me. HOWEVER it is bothersome to the OP. Perhaps return the phone and get another model?

Mine has this. Went to two att and they said it was not an issue, and called me crazy lol. and wanted to charge a 40 re stock fee if they were going to take it back (which they would not). Called att on phone and discussed the issue and they are sending me one via mail.

Edit- never mind they changed their mind last minute.

Are you seriously saying defects are ok in a $1250+ phone? No thanks. I’ll wait and see but I will absolutely return mine if if has light leaks.

To each their own. I'm just saying that an aesthetic defect is a lot better than a function defect.

I agree with you here. If my device had light bleed like this I would return it and demand I not pay a restock fee. Now if I had the tinyest of marks like others I would be ok with it. But light bleed like that needs to be fixed.

Here is some pics of my Black 512GB Note 9 which is now currently waiting to be collected by Samsung for replacement due to light leak. This is on both L/R edges.

It's the light from the screen refracting through the glass, as the screen is curved down the edges it means the screen reflects off the frame of the phone. You can re create it by shining a light directly on the screen and the glass will reflect it on to the frame and you'll see what looks like light leak ... the reason covering the screen doesn't stop the light refracting is because it's still happening inside the glass. If Samsung used a black coating along the edge of the glass we wouldn't be seeing this "anomaly". It's been there since the galaxy s7 edge

Currently I have an S7 Edge (now Son's), S8 Plus (Wife's), Note 8 (Currently in upgrade progress with Samsung Upgrade Program and waiting to be sent back), S9 Plus (Current device) and none of these display this issue.

Samsung has also confirmed it to be an issue (Manufacturing Defect) after seeing my photos and numerous discussions. It wasn't until they saw the pics they finally understood my issue and agreed this should not be like that.
