Note 9 might have 6.4 in screen and 4000mah battery!

What people are failing to realize is, if Samsung indeed goes to a 4000 mAh battery, it means that there will for sure be an in display fingerprint sensor. People unlock their phones a lot throughout the day. An in display fingerprint sensor means that it'll have to make use of the vibration motor to provide feedback for every successful fingerprint unlock. That will only serve to drain the battery faster. Samsung, unlike Huawei, has never been known to optimize a battery to work in concert with its software. So unless Samsung optimizes the f out of the software, the Note 9's battery life with a 4000 mAh battery will be equivalent to the Note 8 and its 3300 mAh battery.
I don't use the FPS to unlock, but even if I did, I don't agree that it would use that much.

So um.. could you step me through the calculations on that please?

Check this one I watched yesterday... it's more down to earth!

Difference in height is really only .06" (6.32" to 6.38") and the battery, so far, is 3850 - not sure where Greggles is getting 4000 from? I got this from an article on Android Authority which has always been pretty reliable.
I read the same thing about the display size. Minor difference from Note8. It sounds like they are just slimming the bezels a little bit. The bigger battery is all contingent on an in display fingerprint sensor.

Yeah, I still don't think it's going to be ready for us in the Note 9... I'm not EVEN going to hold my breath on that one, this time!

Rumors last year said the Note8 would have a bigger battery as well. We all know how that turned out.
Personally, I don't think they had enough time to get a design approved and sensors ordered already if production is already beginning. Any rumors of an early release in July or early August being true would certainly mean no fingerprint sensor in the display as well.
People want early release and also an in display fingerprint sensor. Pick one. If both of these happen, I'll be shocked. "News" stories on YouTube are basically formally putting out the rumors already out there. When someone like Greggles reports it, instead of someone reading it somewhere, all of the sudden has more weight?

The whole fingerprint under the screen thing seems like novelty to me. If it could be done in a way that absolutely, no matter how hard I look, could not see any of the responsible hardware and it didn't degrade Samsung's delicious screen quality, then maybe. For me, a well placed reader on the back of the phone is just as attractive from an asthetic and functionality standpoint. I'd like to see the n9 come with a bigger battery and sure, the s9+'s camera enhancements wouldn't hurt. They can leave the AR emoji out, FWIW.

The note 9 design and specs were more or less final before the note 8 went on sale.

Really, they didn't change much. They already knew the front panels were going to be the same size as the Note8. The current generation Snapdragon and Exynos processors would be used. 6gb RAM still, most likely. Duplicate cameras from S9+. The only thing they could possibly work on is the software because they already new this was an iterative update. They could improve the S-pen. I guess we'll have to wait on that.

Maybe not. Some sources are saying that the final decision on the front under-screen FPS may have come as late as March.
That can happen because of having two or three semi finalist designs and having to choose one because it's time to go to run. But if they're targeting a mid summer release, as we speak now, the thing is basically donez components have been ordered and sourcing is already in motion.

Yes, that's pretty much what they have said. There were issues with the embedded FPS. The engineers came up with 3 or 4 designs to try and address the issues (getting it to work reliably with screen protectors, and other complications). Those designs went to corporate for them to either choose one, or ditch the idea all together. "Insiders" have said that decision was to come down in March.

Sounds like very late in the game to still be grappling with a design decision that would effect the whole layout of phone internals. Especially for a handset they are trying to fast track.

Given all this, and the fact that the Note name has already been badly battered from the Note 7 ordeal, I'm guessing they picked the safe choice.

Nothing wrong with picking the safe choice.

You make a good point about the bigger battery being contingent on the in-display FPS, since it's liable to use more power. Since it's been scrapped and will be on the back, I wonder if battery capacity will be increased at all. And since the release has been delayed because the big honcho wants a thinner screen, who knows.

If it has 4K mah I’m buying it. Don’t care about other features. Should give me the battery life I crave

16% increase in gross battery capacity and less than 1% increase in display size. Neither one of those things could matter less, especially if the increase in battery capacity fails to fully make up for the loss in battery life experienced by the S9+, etc. I would be in agreement that one of the biggest changes needed is a flat display, as well as making it 2:1, rather than 2.0555555555...:1. Additionally, round out the FPS button and camera sensors. It's just aesthetic, but the squares don't look as nice. And preferably make it without a glass back.

Without the glass back, you wouldn't be able to wirelessly charge. Considering a lot of people like that feature, I don't see the glass back going away.

I've never bought a "rumor" in my life. I don't even know where they sell rumors. I try to stay away from these threads because they only aggravate me. Unlike the rumor phone, i'll wait until i can hold the Note 9 in my hand, and then make up my own mind.:p

Well, if you watch over time, you can figure out which sources are reliable and therefor which rumors are more likely to be true. So it's not a total waste of time IMO. If you want to know more about a phone not yet announced officially then rumors are just about the ONLY way to know about it.

These threads are fun actually, as long as you keep in mind that they are just rumors until confirmed.
