Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. This is my first Android phone since the HTC Incredible 2. I've been iPhone since the 4s and I decided to finally give Android a shot. It's nice to see how far Android has come! This phone is simply badass.

Anyways, I have noticed the past week that there is a serious input lag/missing keys when typing and texting. I've only had this phone 2 weeks. I don't know how to fix it and any advice would help! I am using the Samsung keyboard. I installed gboard and noticed it after using it. I tried swiftkey as well and deleted both of them. I can barely type and it makes me want to go back to iPhone honestly. Considering I text a lot this is a big issue. I've been closing apps and been careful with what I install. What should I try? I appreciate any help! Would a glass screen protector do this? Don't think so since the rest of the touch features work fine. But will remove it soon if typing doesn't get better.

What type screen protector? Most of them decrease touch sensitivity, only Whitestone Dome does not

I've been having the same issue for the past week as well. I bought the phone about 3 weeks ago. I'm getting stuttering and severe lag when I press on the back arrow, and also when I complete a voice command and try to close out the command box and get back to the keyboard screen on text messages. This is happening within several different apps, so it's not an app-specific issue. This should not be happening with a brand new device. Also waiting for a solution...

Gee, I'm typing this on the Samsung keyboard and don't have any probs, so that leads me to wonder re keyboard settings.

Mine is set to Australian English, I've got the accessible yellow screen on, and the screen style is with the numbers showing on the top row. So, a 4 row keyboard.

What are your settings?

I have a Zagg screen protector and have absolutely no lag or other issues with it, such as it being case unfriendly. I am using the Samsung keyboard.

However, I would agree that some screen protectors could cause touch issues, especially if they weren't installed correctly. (I had mine installed at a Verizon store. I asked if there was someone in the store who had expertise in screen protector installation and was told there was one with more experience, but I would have to wait. I waited for this guy to finish with another customer and it was worth the wait. )

SwiftKey solves everything

The OP tried SwiftKey which didn't solve his problem.

I would reboot the phone to see if that helps. If not, try clearing the cache. If that doesn't work, shut off the phone and restart in Safe Mode to see if the keyboard now works without lag. If so, there has to be some program running in the background that you recently added that is causing your problem. Start disabling apps such as battery savers, security programs, battery monitors. Also make sure don't have your phone running in a low performance mode.

That's what I do with all my phones, I request the expert hands in applying glass protectors to my phones and that has worked the best for me.

I have the same issue with lag on the keyboard compared to the iPhone I used with Gboard as well

SwiftKey works great, Use the yootech screen protector wet application, it's like nothings there, works excellent. 100/100
I've been a Samsung user for about 8 years, never heard of key board lag.
My LG G4 keyboard would get stuck before we just gave up on LG period.
Have you been to the store to have a look?

I havem't had any lag with the stock keyboard. If Swiftkey didn't work it sounds like a problem with something on the phone, an app or setting. The Note has a lot of settings that can change how something works. Did you factory reset yet? A pain, but it might tell you if it was an app or a setting.

I know I'm not the OP but I actually tried this solution and it seems to have solved the issue for now. There is still a small bit of lag but not as severe as before, most notably when I am using Google's speech-to-text and then closing out of the speech-to-text screen and going back to the main keyboard.

I had this missing key issue on both my Note 7 last year, regardless which keyboard I used. Seem to be an internal system issue, even factory reset dun help. Seriously annoying and ruined my experience and I was actually glad Note 7 was recalled then.

So far did not encounter this on my Note 8.

The stock Samsung keyboard is fine. Funny how no one seems to want to acknowledge that it's SwiftKey itself that is causing massive lag. I've observed this over three different handsets. Even going into the theme selection screen on SwiftKey lags out the one phone. It's the app.

Not sure how you thought Swiftkey was the cause when the OP was already experiencing it on the stock Samsung keyboard before he even installed Swiftkey.

I'm using Swiftkey for all my devices since the Note 2 and no lag for me. Gboard is nice but I don't like how predictions turn off in certain apps like Google Search and instead it uses the search predictions which aren't accurate in my case. Plus I don't like the Gboard tablet layout and no way to change it to a split keyboard layout there. Since I prefer the learned words syncing between my devices, that means no Gboard on tab, no Gboard on phone.

I had hoped the extra ram would cure this problem. I've had it sporadically in every Samsung I have owned. I use SwiftKey. Seems worse if you routinely type fast almost like some buffer gets full before you hit the next key

I didn't notice Samsung's keyboard lagged until I tried out the iPhone 8 plus. Now that has a freaking quick keyboard. now my s8+ feels stuttery

Hey, so. I've been having the same problem. And I think I've found something worthwhile.

Try increasing, not decreasing, the vibration time of typing. I know it doesn't sound logical but it gave me a better typing experience.
