Note9 compatible with Note8 Gear VR?

What adapter would that be? I don't have a USB C to USB C, and the one in there currently is simply too tight of a fit for the Note 9. However, I won't rule out you may be right, I just don't see how I already have an adapter that would work. Or perhaps that's exactly your point. DOH.

I already received my headphones so this is the only thing I'm waiting on from Samsung.

It's not. There IS a new adapter to accommodate the thicker back of the Note 9 and this is what they are sending people for free. It works in the current Note 8 VR but it's a pretty tight fit and you have to push it down quite a bit for it to make a good connection.

My adapter directly from Samsung was just delivered, once I can get home and get my hands on it I will do a side-by-side comparison with the new adapter and the old Note8 adapter.

The Note9 is thicker than the Note8, so the adapter needs a little more space so you don't have to jam the phone in too tightly.

In the Note 8 VR there seems to be enough space for the front of the device that I don't think it would interfere with a screen protector but I don't use a SP to be certain. It's the back of the Note 9 that fits tightly in the USB C connection.

Not sure why, but I actually received 2 Note 9 adapters and yes, it is different for sure because I wasn't comfortable trying to jam my Note 9 into the existing adapter. This new one (or two in my case) from Samsung is definitely made to fit.
