Notification frustrations

Ideally I would like to receive a text message, get a popup that stays there. Dismiss it or open the text app from the lockscreen. I just want a simple interaction like apple. I do want to do it with the samsung message app so I can use WiFi calling/messaging which I might add currently is not sending any pictures thru the wificalling setup. Just another issue.
So if I have no security set up just a swipe. I get the icon on the AOD. I double tap home, and get to the lock screen. Then I need to tap the message and then swipe across the screen below to open the app. Also if I use facial recognition which does nicely very quickly unlock the phone it goes directly to my home screens and I then need to swipe down to start looking over my notifications. I was hoping to look at the notifications quickly even before I unlock. I guess with the facial recognition I don't have a lock screen anymore.

Hi there,

Not sure if it's there for Facial Recognition, but since it's there for Iris, I'll assume it should be the same there... But there's an option to let the scanner work right away after the screen is turned on (which, if recognized, would mean you 'skip' the lockscreen). If you disable that, you'll need to tap or swipe to begin scanning, letting you see the lockscreen again. Also you can disable the 'unlock with home button' option, which, when you hard-press it on AOD, bypasses the lockscreen (prompting a scan if a secure lockscreen is selected or going straight to your home screen if the device isn't locked).

As for the app, if you're using AOD, double-tapping on the notification icon will also take you directly to the messaging app (either skipping the lockscreen if unsecured or prompting for a scan/PIN/password for secure).

I have no issues with WiFi-Calling and MMS, but I don't use the stock app, I use Textra. On T-Mobile, also (that might make a difference if it's a carrier-specific bug).

Unfortunately there is no 'tap to wake' but you can use 'Easy screen turn on' option where you just have to move your hand above the sensor to turn on the screen. That way you quickly see your notifications in the lock screen. You can enable this in Settings->Accessibility->Dexterity and interaction->Easy screen turn on

If you rather prefer to go to the app directly from AOD, just double tap on the notification icon and it will open that app directly after you unlock.

Hope this helps.

I had no idea that setting existed. Thanks for sharing!

Just check your battery life if you activate that option. It usually results in 'accidental' screen turn on (just hovering your arm over the phone to reach for something, sometimes putting it in your pocket or something moving over the sensor). You might want to activate the 'prevent screen from turning on in pockets' option as well just to make sure.

you can also chose to show the content of the notification instead of just the icon in the AOD and Lock screen. It's under settings - lock screen and security - under the Lock Screen and Always On Display section tap on Notifications and you can change it from there.

To the best of my knowledge you can only display icons in AOD. The content option only applies to lockscreen.

If there's an exchange account on the phone it may required an extra swipe regardless of settings outside of the exchange app. It's the price to be paid for email security.

Or you can use apps like Nine :) They don't 'bypass' your corporate security requirements, but contain them to the app (so SmartLock works, you can unlock your phone easily, and all those extra steps required and secure measures will now only apply to the app, not the rest of the phone. Same thing if your employer sends out a wipe command: that only blasts the app data for Nine, not your entire phone contents).

I would never, ever use Nine. I tried it a few years ago and it had issues with retrieving messages from my host, GoDaddy(one of the largest in the world) and they couldn't trouble shoot it. They asked me for my email password which of course I refused. BE VERY AFRAID OF NINE.

Never had an issue here. I swear by it and have several friends that have tried it and never looked back. Also, years ago Nine only supported Exchange accounts... Was your GoDaddy one (can't say that name with a straight face... Ugh)? Now they have support for more account types, but their stronghold is still Exchange/Office 365 ones.

Anyway, to each their own, but with a free trial, might as well give them a chance? :P I love it and was well worth the 9 bucks.

Thanks for all the ideas. For now what is working OK for me is the option to not fully unlock when screen turns on. This allows me to double tap the home and still see the lock screen and its notifications to dismiss or then open. I will look into a few of your other suggestions. I think I'm one of the few that like notifications in my face and persistant so I don't miss them even if they are intrusive. Then just want to reply or dismiss with one simple action.
