I'm on the first day of using my N8. It's taking some getting used to, coming from the extremely robust N4 (have grown to love how sturdy it is).

I've noticed that the led notification lights are extremely small on the N8, to the point that I have a hard time seeing them. I read in settings that the side glass was supposed to also light up, but not seeing. Is there a special setting, or is it only for use with the 'always on' screen??

All 4 sides light up. Slide down your notification panel, swipe once and you will see edge lighting. Click edge lighting, click on details, then you will see option to turn edge lighting on, when to have it on, application to select to have edge lighting on and advanced settings to set the color, width and transparency of the edge lighting.

Thanks! Turns out it automatically used the same color as the background, which is black.

I don't have that in my notification panel, even after swiping. oddness

You're welcome. I love it.

Guess I spoke too soon. I've changed the settings time and again, even rebooted the phone. All I get is the extremely small led light (that's also really feint in green). maxed out the width, changed it to something bright, but nada.

Did you do the transparency option? This is how I have it set:

I like the edge lighting but it comes with a huge tradeoff where you get the horrendous, tiny peek notifications that come and go within a few seconds. Only turning off Edge Lighting returns them to the much better large ones

Awesome. Could not figure out until I see this thread. Thanks a lot.

Wow really? Should be right under AOD. Guess you would have to go to settings>display>edge screen>edge lighting.

I don't have Edge Screen under Display (Verizon)

Update: I have Edge Screen on main settings display.

under AOD on the notifications panel, after swiping, I have Do Not Disturb. definite oddness, and I'm on Sprint

I'm on Verizon and this is what mine looks like after I swipe:

My settings are the same, except for the custom color.

Hmmm...Maybe try mine. The one that says basic: match wallpaper. Just to see what you get. Other than that I don't know. Sorry if this didn't help. Maybe someone else will chime in soon.

It was originally set to match wallpaper, which is black, so assumed it was why I didn't see anything.
