Notification sound being cut short.

Strange problem with my Nokia 8 (8.1) and the missus's Nokia 5 (8.0).

If I get a message through Whatsapp containing an image the notification sound gets cut short ie. it only plays the first 3/4 of a second of the sound.
Now If I get another message without an image the sounds plays complete.
It makes no difference if its a custom or a system notification sound.

Not sure if this is a problem with the phones or the OS or Whatsapp.

Any one heard of this

I had this issue on my Nexus 5X but I noticed it would occur more often if I received two notifications in quick succession.

Normal messages just containing text, work fine.
Just when I receive a picture, the notification tone gets cut to a fraction of the length of what it should be.

I've been in contact with whatsApp, with messages going back and forth, I ended up videoing the problem for them.
They finally admitted there was a problem and will likely fix it in an upcoming release.
