Notification Sound for text message not working

I was having the same issue on my LG G3 after the Lollipop (v. 6) upgrade, all of my sounds were working fine except the notifications for text messages. I am using the Verizon Message+ app and had no issues prior to that point. I went through all of the settings and even took it to the Verizon store. What they found (that I foolishly forgot to test) was that the problem was app specific as the sounds worked when using a different app for messaging. So I uninstalled the app (or at least the last update) and re-opened the app, poof, and now the sounds work. Re-installed the latest update for the app and it works as before. Kind of strange that Verizon had not seen this issue by the time I had gotten there, but stuff happens, just glad I was able to resolve it. Hope this helps someone else.

I have just purchased a Note 4 and have spent 3 days trying to sort this problem of notification sound going off when i get incoming call or message or whatever. Eventually I had the phone flashed, however Samsung told me that they know of this problem with sound notification and it will be fixed on the next update which will be in approximately 3 months time.

THANK YOU - this worked for me. Don't know why I didn't figure it out. Bless you.

YES! Thank you - don't know why I didn't figure it out, but sure glad you did.

Sprint network galaxy s6 notification problems resoled...go setting...app manager...notifications allow...hope it works 4 evry1...it did 4 me...stupid lollipop update

Had the same problem, this is how I fixed it. (Note 4)

1. Settings (obvi)

2.Sounds and Notifications

3.Application Notifications

4. Scroll down to the messenger app you use and make sure notifications aren't blocked.

not sure how mine got set to blocked but I'm glad I finally figured it out. hope this helps

i had the same issue with my samsung s4 mini.
the solution was to unmute in settings -> my device -> sound -> volume -> notifications.
i don't recall how this setting became muted, although it seemed to start after i had installed a led blinker notification app.

Go to app manager and scroll down to messages. Maybe notifications is blocked. That worked for me

I found a fix. So all of a sudden my text messages stopped alerting me and my wife's snap chat stopped giving notification as well. I went to settings > notification > Advanced (top right) > then found Messages app and it was blocked for some reason. Same was with my wife's snap chat. I "allowed" the notifications and it worked.

All sounds work except for text messages. No other apps are downloaded that would interfere with this.

Unfortunately, Samsung designed the phones that way. When a message thread is open you wont get any sound notification. I have no idea why they did that starting with the Galaxy S4. I do not like it either. When you call their customer support they try to give you all kinds of BS answers.

Garbage in (designer) garbage out (consumer stuck with crap). What else is new. So I guess I no have to close out each conversation each time I receive a message. Kind of like having to hang up the phone after the person on the other end says something. iPhone...here I come.

I have the S7 and in the message + app, I cannot figure out how to shut the notification off when I'm already in the message. It's so annoying when it vibrates and makes a noise each time.. is there ANY way to shut this off or do I have to go use the boring message app?

As ridiculous as this sounds, I have spent the last 2 days fiddling around and diving through songs and I finally found a fix that worked for me. I have the galaxy s5 through Verizon...go to Settings>>>Applications>>>Messages>>>Notifications>>>Notification Sound. When it pops up to let you pick what sound you want, turn the volume up or down using the button on the side of your phone. I have no idea what made me think of this, but it worked and I finally have sound on my text message notifications. Hope this helps everyone!!

I cannot believe this was my issue!! So simple :) thank you!!!

I tried many of the suggestions in this thread, but none seemed to work for me. I was not receiving notifications of any kind for text messages. I tried restarting the phone, removing the SIM card, going into Settings > Applications > Messages > Notifications and tried all the tricks with the volume and choosing a different notification sound, etc.... still nothing. I have the Galaxy S6 by the way. It turns out there is another setting aside from turning Notifications on or off. There is also a setting to block notifications. I don't know how it got turned on but here you go: Settings > Applications > Application Manager > Messages > Notifications > Allow Notifications > ON!!
