Has anyone had their notification sounds change automatically? I had all my notifications set with a set tone. Last night I got this loud alert and it was not something I set. After looking it was text message but my standard tone had been changed to something else.

Was it an emergency text? Mine did that to me once while wearing headphones and about made me deaf for an amber alert. I went ant turned off emergency tones in the messaging settings now it just vibrates.

Where did you download the message tone ?
Make sure in my files app find it and move to ringtone file for it to stick

Did the notification tone change back to a preinstalled tone from Samsung, or is it some other custom tone?

No it changed to a number. It does not make a sound when it changes. I have missed several calls and text because of it.

Custom Ringtones and Notification tones used to HAVE to be saved in internal storage and not SD card for them to work properly and not randomly change back to default.
Just something to check and maybe rule it out as the culprit.

But does that numbered tone still sound like one of the preinstalled tones?

i know this if it has a number then it is his sdcard he must of removed the sdcard and then later on inserted it, also if he backed up his data and restored it back most the time sdcard shows a number as sound , so you have to go back and set it up again from notifications, i know this cause it's happen to me once you set it back the sound should stick mines are on sdcard as well with a folder notifications/alarm/ringtone all 3 folders
