Nov 8 2010 maintenance update

i am a newbie so bare with me..i have not had the update come to my phone yet.when this comes can i just ignore it.i do not wanna upgrade? i have an update when i plug my phone in to my PC but i just ignore that..i do not want this up grade..what can i do.help please....i am asking now so i can be prepared when it comes..thanks guys

The only way to permanently make the update notification go away is to root

Does the maintenance update check for all the original bloatware to be in place before it'll work? I don't mind re-rooting, but I don't really want to have to spend time re-installing all the crapware first if I don't have to.

Somebody previously posted to install the Virtuous ROM. This is the closest to Stock than any other ROM I have tried. Personally, I like the stock ROM. I just like the few extras I get from rooting. This ROM from what I know has all the stuff from the update in it. I can tell you my battery lasts MUCH longer with this ROM over stock, and it definitely charges much faster than stock. You won't have to reinstall crapware as it is all removed for you.

I highly recommend this ROM if you are someone who was satisified with your phone before Rooting, and rooted just to see what the excitement was. That pretty much describes me. I know Cyanogenmods Roms are supposed to be real good as well as Skyraider, but for me, I like the way it came originaly plus a few of the perks a rom can give you.

Just installed Virtuous ROM, which takes care of the annoying reminder...

Yes. This. I installed the same ROM. I love it. Just like the Stock, without the crap. This ROM gives me that.

By the way, I clicked to install the update before I got this rom. Before the update loaded, I hit cancel. Never got another alert after that. Never had to use Root explorer.

**PLEASE HELP!**

I rooted my wife's phone with unrevoked. She received the update on Sunday, and installed it. When I accept the update, I get to the "your device will now reboot" screen, the phone never reboots, and then I get the "your device is up to date" screen, with no changes. Doesn't seem like the update went through though; software version not changed, no Vcast app, or slacker, but do seem to have lost root. A problem I see is the weather widget is not the usueal and does not update. What should I do here? Should I do a factory update, do the software update and then try to root again? I do have her phone backed up with clockworkmod, can I restore her settings and apps after all that?

Thanks for any help!

Yes. you have to return any moved/deleted bloatware back to their original location. I missed one odex file by accident and the update failed. Once I restored all the files correctly, the update went without any issues.

Rooted using unRevoked and running stock ROM w/Nov update.

I used the following process which worked for my phone: Installing OTA to Rooted Android

Anyone have the software version #'s? I tried to install the OTA but I don't think it worked. For 10 minutes it said it was "rebooting...". Never did, so I turned it off and then back on. Now the update notification is gone. But I don't see the tell tale VCast apps on it. So I'm thinking it did not apply the udpate. Here's what I've currently got...

Android 2.2
Baseband 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel 2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build 3.21.605.1 CL231334 release-keys
Software 3.21.605.1
Browser WebKit 3.1
PRI 1.28_002
PRL 51920
ERI 5

Im running skyraider 3.3.3, is it ok to update? should i try to update and then cancel to get rid of the notification? is there any way to get rid of the notification without updating?

yes. check the hacking section.

easier:

Using Root Explorer navigate to /system/, tap mount R/W, tap and hold on build.prop and select 'Open in text editor', find this line (X's denote various numbers) :

ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/XXXXXX:user/release-keys

replace the X's with 264707

save and exit, and reboot.

This is very tempting, but I fear if I click to install, that I won't be able to Cancel fast enough and I'll get screwed out of my root. Is it a confirmation screen, where you truly get the chance to cancel?

Sorry if this has been covered, but since the update my location on my clock and weather main widget is saying im in Melbourne australia , but im actually in Ewing NJ,,,, anyone know how to fix this because i cant get it fixed

So I uninstalled the flash updates and the double tap for fullscreen works fine on videos now, now my problem is if I double tap it again to make it 'true' fullscreen (get rid of the progress bar, like hitting the fullscreen button on actual youtube) the video freezes still. Not totally breaking funtionality but if I am watching a dark video it sucks to have the white progress bar on the screen ><

For the step, "restore any crapware", which are they referring to?

If you deleted or re-named any stock apps that came with the phone, they all need to be restored to OEM status, since the OTA will only install if it finds all the system files present.

But this worked - thanks!

Well, it started a countdown with a button to cancel. I was watching the timer thinking "do I REALLY want to risk this?" so I changed my mind and clicked cancel at the last second. It sat there for a while saying updating. That made me nervous as it sat there for a while, I touched the cancel button like 15 times. It finally disappeared and so did the update notification. I AM still rooted as I have tried 3 different ROMs since then (sticking with Virtuous). So I can tell you that you won't lose root. Just make sure you click cancel before the timer reaches Zero!
