November Security Patch Now Live -- Updated @ 11/5 1PM EST)

T-Mobile is finally pushing out the November update. You need to manually check for the update.

Getting it now, Project Fi or should I say Google Fi.

It's been optimizing apps for 15 minutes and only one third done. This is just a security update. I hate to think how long a really large update would take.

That's because it now installs in the background which allows you to use the phone until you are ready to reboot and finish the update. That's a good thing as opposed to the old way of running the update and tying up the device. I used to have a lot of apps and it was brutal waiting for the device to optimize all of them after a reboot.

Thanks, Mike. That makes sense.

Ya mine took a long time optimizing apps, restarted now. I know it wasn't supposed to fix any (major?) Updates but it did mention bug fixes. Fingers crossed it corrects some minor issues.

I'm on Google Fi. I'm on WiFi almost 100% of the time. When I'm on WiFi, who is my provider?

It's thru hotspots provided by the three carrier partnership as far as I can tell. I don't know if they latch on to other wifi networks.

How can there be a WiFi hotspot to latch onto if my house is in a rural valley completely devoid of all carrier hotspots? Where then does my Security Update come from?

I would guess you last carrier u connected to or on at the moment will pull the update. Not 100% but that's my thinking

I don't know exactly how they do it. Many times if you or a neighbor uses the wireless router that is provided by cable or whoever, they create a hotspot off your router that is open to the public with a cable account. They could have worked a deal but I don't know for sure. The may have hotspots on poles with hidden SSIDs. Try running the speediest app or signalcheck pro which might provide some insight as to what you are connecting to. Contact Project Fi support....they should be able to help.

You don't have an internet connection in your house?
