November Security Update (Also Saturation/Nav Bar Fade Update)

I just chatted with support and they are telling me the update will be pushed by Verizon for my Pixel 2. I really thought by buying a Pixel, that I would not be depended on a carrier for the updates. I thought those would come directly from Google.
I have Verizon pixel and this work with AT&T sim. I think the update is come from Google.

Then this support rep must be clueless because I even stressed I bought an unlocked version from the Google Store and was under the impression the updates would be coming from Google. He kept insisting that Google releases then but they come from the carrier, which in my case, is Verizon.

I really wish that people wouldn't quote reps because everyone has a different story

I got tired of waiting so I sideloaded it. I have never done anything like that before but found a good video on YouTube that walked you through it and it worked!!

CONFIRMED....This worked for me... Immediately had update ready to install after restart. Loving the new color modes. Also updated to November Security Patch.

Worked for me. Thanks for posting this!

This is an old article but a Google engineer suggests this method to force an update isn't a good idea....

Morrill states, essentially, that clearing the framework data is going to break stuff. Specifically, any apps relying on GCM functionality (Google Cloud Messenger) for things like push updates may freak out, stop sending notifications, or engage in other odd / less than useful behavior....

I received the update the first date it came out. I'm on VZW, Pixel 2XL here.

Google Engineer Dan Morrill Sheds Some Light On The Nexus OTA Process, Urges You To Never Clear Google Service Framework Data

Yeah, I'm sorry I tried it because he mentions some of the effects I'm experiencing. Push updates from my Gmail stopped and audible notifications from some apps have stopped sounding as well. I'll probably end up factory resetting to fix things. a PITA in any case. Shoulda passed on it and it didn't work anyway. FDR is in my future pretty soon.

Considering all the controversy over this phone and I'm sure it's affecting sales you think they would expedite this roll out
I wonder if all the new phones out of the box update when you activate

I tried it, and afterwards got almost no notifications. Did a factory reset to fix. I would not recommend trying this method either

Pixel XL 2 on Project FI. No update yet. One would think Pixel on Fi would be the first batch to get an update.

Thinking of doing a reset to fix this as well. Wondering if you restored from a backup and that method worked ok.

I tried to tell the person that posted the video but he was very dismissive of an article from 2013 and said basically said that's the risk people take. Would be nice if he'd make mention of this very issue because it's been pointed out to him.

Edit: Ok the person that posted the video responded and found he needed to do a reset on his own phone after doing this. So people take note if you try this method, it can cause some wonkiness that a factory reset should clear up.

I'll be resetting this evening for sure. My battery life has taken a severe hit as well. Very noticibly worse. Who knows , maybe the FDR will trigger the update. ??????
