November Security Update (Also Saturation/Nav Bar Fade Update)

Galaxy S8 and S8+ are starting to get their Nov. security patches says Android Authority. Be interesting to see if Samsung gets all theirs out before Pixel does. Who said it'd be 1 to 2 weeks for the gradual Nov. security patch rollout? Well two and a half weeks for Pixl 2 and still in waiting mode. Going by the forum it seems more don't have then than do have them. Or maybe the don'ts just biatch the loudest. :)

I just can't get over the fact that the phone I purchased for fast monthly security updates is still stuck on September's patch. I realize Google has some "extra" fixes in this release but to be that far behind is unacceptable. I bought the Pixel 2 based off my experience with my first Pixel. So far the update experience leaves a lot to be desired! This had better be the only month this takes place. I mean we are almost up for December's patch! Come on Google! The Pixel 2 is a fantastic phone but I still want the promised support with it too. I went through this crap with Blackberry. Please don't run me down that rabbit hole again....! And no, I'm not giving up on my Pixel 2 and going back to iOS. I use my iPhone 7 occasionally at night on wifi and it is a complete dog compared to the Pixel 2. Would be a definite downgrade to go back to it! JUST UPDATE MY PHONE ON TIME AS PROMISED. THAT'S ALL. I paid the price you asked for the phone which was my part of the deal. Now uphold yours. And I shouldn't have to sideload these promised updates either.

End of rant. Happy Thanksgiving.

In the time it takes to write this you could have side-loaded the OTA

Google chat guy told me any day now. We'll see. I don't think those chat people know much. Sooo polite, I'd rather they were rude and just gave me the straight scoop.

I'm on O2 in the UK and still on the Sept security patch. Looking at other forums, this seems to be common on this network (they don't sell the phone directly, had to buy through a third party). Surely google can override this?!

What software version are you running?

I think most of us are on 8.0 and not running the 8.1 beta. Fact is tons of people are still un-updated to the November patch. I could side load like anyone else but refuse to put 3rd party apps on my virgin MacBook to do so and shouldn't have to. Google has really dropped the ball with the timeliness of these updates. Never had this issue on past Google devices. 2 reasons to get the pixel IMO, a smooth , uncluttered and fluid experience and quick monthly up to date security patches. The patch was released about 3 weeks ago, I wonder if even 50% of users have it yet. It'll be time for the December patch soon.

I wouldn't know what percentage of users have or haven't gotten it and I don't even know how many phones have been sold.
I also don't know what the pecking order is but it's rolled out in batches for several reasons.

I got it fairly quickly I can't tell you why. I'm on Verizon and don't know if that makes a difference. I'm actually kind of remorseful that I have that November patch because I'd rather have the beta and the November patch prevents the beta for being installed just as the beta prevents the November back from being installed

Well my figures aren't scientific at all, just based on what I'm hearing in the Forum. I'm also on Verizon with an unlocked pixel 2. I just can't recall ever having to wait so long for a security update or any update. It seems most of the people in waiting mode are of the same opinion. I'm wondering if the December patch will come out before the November patch. I think the beta comes out in December anyway and should have the patch along with it.

I bought the Verizon sim enabled but I doubt that makes a difference. I am noticing reports of recent updates so I'm sure it's just a matter of when.

Mine updated as soon as I turned the phone on (UK from Google Store). Didn't even have a SIM in, just connected to WiFi.

Interesting, I tried mine both ways, sim in , sim out. Factory reset for another issue no help either. Truly a waiting game and a crap shoot as to who's next.

I did the same steps and still no security patch. Just gonna wait it out and try not to whine to much while I'm waiting....😩 Boy, this sure brings back my CrackBerry days.... I'm sure it won't be that bad with Google though. Pixel 2 is still awesome.

I recall those days on Crackberry as well. Seems like sooo long ago and far, far away.
At least we have company waiting. It would seem there are quite a few that have not received the patch yet. I have a personal bet going with myself to see if it hits this week before the first of December which is Friday. I'm betting December arrives before my November patch, but hoping to lose the bet. LoL
Any other patchless folks out there think they'll have it by Thursday midnight?
The other side to this bet is does anyone think we'll just get rolled up into the December patch and skip November entirely. Or perhaps option 3 is Google forgot all about a whole slew of us and we won't get no stinkin' patches EVER!/QUOTE]

I have an unlocked Pixel 2 on Verizon, and I'm still on the September security update as well. Coming from Windows Phone, I chose the Pixel 2 because I wanted the timely updates. Needless to say, Google has failed thus fair in one of the main reasons I purchased the phone.

That said, I called Google support to ask if there was anything else that could be done and voice my displeasure about not getting an update 3 weeks after it was released. The support rep was nice, but had no solution for me other than to side load the update (which he recommended against.) He assured me that I should get the update by the end of this month, although he said it should take no longer than two weeks. He also went on to say there would be no December update and this November update is the last one for this year (Not sure how accurate that is). He concluded by saying if I didn't get the update within 2 weeks, that I should call back and they would look into the issue further.

Not a good start for someone just switching over to Android, let alone pure Google Android that is supposed to get the updates fairly quickly after release :(

I think there is a issue of some kind that Google is not aware of with this rolling out!

Yeah if some type of issues we're being experienced by those already with the patch I could understand they stopped it. But I've heard nothing about issues other than the issue of NOT receiving it.
