Now is the time for a decision

That might be the only selling point for any OEM, period.
Every high end phone from here on out is going to have 4G, large HD screen, and ICS. I don't see anything separating the competition anytime soon.

Build quality. Camera hardware / software. Radios. Screen tech (not all HD screens are the same). Those are still selling points. Maybe not for the average consumer, but for people frequenting these boards, they would be looking for those differentiating factors.

And as we already know, we're the vocal minority.
Also, I'm not sure how many people would hinge their decisions based on what type of HD screen or how good the camera is either. It factors into the grand scheme of things, but I'm not seeing Nexus vs Rezound vs Spectrum battles come down to what type of HD screen they used. I'll give you the camera bit, but those type of people end up buying iPhones :-X

I'll tell you who will go for the "best", people like us, other technology enthusiasts, people that do research before they make a multi-hundred dollar purchase, but mostly the latter. They tend to be hardcore.

Interesting so far. I guess I am still sitting on the fence. I am sitting here thinking I can eat a very reasonable 249 without issue to squeak in before they mess with the data. If it doesn't pan out, I can sell it off on eBay for that price or even more or sell off my 2 month old rezound to defray the costs.

How far will the rezzy take me as opposed to the sgslll. If they would announce how hard they are going to bend us over with the data and when, it would make things easier.

True. The whole "well, consider the radios, camera, and..." thing is long gone, and in its place is heavy marketing. If people really cared about superior hardware, everyone would own a Rezound.

The when comes when you renew your plan. They how much, they're holding on to that but I'm sure it's going to hurt, at least a little so get your SGSIII lube now..

I've been telling people this for a while now, but the S3 and Droid "Fighter" are going to be the first top tier phones to introduce shared data. You gotta get while the gettin's good and use your upgrade wisely.

Well if that is the case then we will know all in four days. If they are going to start sticking it to us with the sgslll then they are going to have to start it with the preorders.

that's a pretty dumb article. Every phone will say requires a tiered data plan, but if you still have unlimited data, then you will continue on it, for now. Verizon has not announced the date when you'd be forced off unlimited data if you wanted a subsidized phone.

Do those guys even write good articles anymore? There a HUGE reason why the rumor mill churns out 1/2 the nonsense it does. I am glad I read that though. I forgot adding a new line on an existing "unlimited" account was subject to a tiered plan. Looks like I'll have to use an upgrade on the SGIII if need be.

Until they start putting better radios in Samsung's phones I won't touch one with a ten foot pole. I don't care how good it is otherwise. It's like having a car with 1000 hp and all season tires, the most important component to the overal performance is neglected and I cannot concede to that way of thinking and quite frankly stupidity. Good enough and compromising on key features is something I associate with the ios crowd and their sheepish attitudes. I personally won't have it and don't care how many their billion dollar marketing programs catch. I'll have my service, you can have your ticket to the android in-crowd.

I will wait for the next nexus that is not a Samsung assuming google is not ed and chooses someone else next time. I do not have the liberty of jumping ship on my one line and paying retail for a phone. Plus I do not have unlimited data so that is not an issue for me.

See as I have said before, I am leery as well but this IS a new radio. It is the S4 with LTE on the chip (SoC) so it is a totally new ballgame and cannot be compared IMHO.

Nice to see someone else get censored for a change :-X
Also, you're not on unlimited data? Did you jump ship from another carrier recently?

Don't shoot the messenger. They said they reached out to Verizon, whether they did or not or if there are any other inaccuracies, who really ever knows?

No offense to you I do appreciate you.

My point was to the crapped journalism. Any phone ordered before the change takes place will be able to keep unlimited data.

I bought several basic phones back in early 2010 and when I bought it, it said no data plan required. I knew that those phones where going to require data plans if purchased after a certain date so I made sure to purchase before then. When I tried to activate said phones, they then said with absolute certainty that the phones must have a data plan. I took screenshots of all screens in the order process. After arguing back and forth for a while on Verizon's clear bait and switch, I asked to speak to the supervisor. A few minutes later, without talking to a supervisor, what was "impossible" was all of a sudden possible, and I got the phones with no data plan.

Then in 2011,I got a Thunderbolt on a one year contract, again purchased in mid April right before the end of the 1 year contract. Somehow,Verizon again messed up and stuck me on a 2 year contract. They basically said that it was impossible to put me on a one year contract, even though I had screen shots showing as, such. Typical verizon bait and switch, I guess. After some banter for over an hour, again, the "impossible " was now possible and I got my thunderbolt on a 1 year contract.

Oh and don't forget to ask for compensation for their screw up. Verizon gave me $25 for their message up which mostly covered the $30 additional cost of the one year over two years contract.

Bottom of the line, just do your due diligence, and so long as it doesn't require a tiered data plan at time of ordering, then you will be fine. For verizon to do otherwise would be a bait and switch, which, with enough clamoring, then verizon would back down.

I have absolutely no interest in the SIII as I don't care much for Samsung hardware. Also since I don't root, I'd be stuck with TouchWiz. Yuck! Not happening. :( Anyway, I'm still holding out for a true Thunderbolt successor (refuse to give up my kickstand)! :p No worries about losing grandfathered unlimited data as I purchase at full retail anyway (one of the ways to keep unlimited).
