I really like this new feature!

But I must confess I felt pretty old this morning.

I'm listening to Radio Paradise, easing into the day. I'm really impressed by how many tracks this can correctly identify.

But I was a little depressed to see that it didn't recognize Sexy Sadie by the Beatles. What do you mean? This was on the White Album ferchrissakes!

I know I'll be seriously depressed the first time it doesn't recognize Pink Floyd...

Re: Now Palying

 That's cool in phones That comes with default radio player

most phones, users have to install a third party app to listen their

favorites - Radio stations a BIG -Minus for phone factories..

Anyway hope that feature identify - AC/DC songs -Hah!

Re: Now Palying

This is a little off topic, but what was the first phone to have this feature? I vaguely remember nokia having this feature too, but what model/year I can't remember. I figured by now most songs should be ID'd!

Re: Now Palying

I haven't tested it out yet but I'm really excited about it! I know some people probably won't care, but for me personally, I used google's "Sound Search" widget all the time while in coffee shops/cafes and found a TON of my current music that way.

This feature is fantastic for a user like me.

Since the onboard database only holds "thousands of songs", it stands to reason that they have to concentrate on fairly mainstream music.

I guess it should be aware of AC/DC's big hits, but I'd be surprised if it knew any band's really deep cuts...

Well, it recognized Dark Side of the Moon, there is hope for humanity!

Re: Now Palying

Is it a feature only for certain regions? It doesn't work on mine, even when I played a song off the list on Spotify on my tablet right beside it.

You have to enable it, it's off by default.

It's in settings under sound.

Sound > Advanced > Now Playing

I had enabled it but no joy. Strange, but being Google it could be a regional thing.

It is also possible that it hasn't yet heard any music it recognizes. Have you tried playing really current music?

There's a list of the 17,000 songs it recognises so I went down that list and played one of them.

Re: Now Palying

Does it have a list/storage where it saves the title of the tracks after for viewing?

I've found it's recognised everything that I've played so far and a track being played on a tv series. Just one song on the above list that I've played several versions of that it won't pick up on.
In general I really like the feature but still not sure how much battery it will use...

Do you have an XL or the standard Pixel 2?

If you have an XL then I don't think you have to worry about that at all. The battery is a beast, and Oreo has improved battery life over Nougat.

Unless you're a serious power user with 5 hours of screen on time or more, the battery draw of Now Playing will simply be a non issue.

It's probably the same way with the smaller Pixel 2, I just can't comment since I have an XL.
