Now that I have rooted my Optimus V

Consider some custom ROMM's

Bumblee and Harmonious are aailable but are not actively being support. The IHO project is supported and running at full speed with an Unofficial Cyanogenmod port.

After that. Over Clock. The IHO has an overclockering built into it

Get some root apps.

Titanium backup for your apps while you flash a new ROM
RootExplorer or something similar helps to manage files
Adfree makes your android while... Ad free
Cashemate helps. The OV has low memory so an app that can clear cache once in a while can go a long way

After all of that the very next thing o do while rooted is to enjoy.

Root apps:

SetDNS (free/donate) switch dns provider from automatic to what ever you want, it has quick options for google dns and opendns as well as many others. This will speed up network use (note you won't see any change in test apps like speedtest because changing DNS doesn't affect the active connection it just reduces how long it take to make said connection, which is where most of the slowness comes from in wireless networking.)

SD-Booster (free) Creates a cash in ram to reduce the amount of times the cpu needs to access the sd-card, this will speed up your system overall and will reduce/eliminate most UI stutter (at least it did for me. (I'm using an Optimus V as well.))
