Now that my tablet has shipped, I need suggestions on a case!

Smart Cover?? Is that some kind of attached to the case screen protector and is removed when tab is in use?

Smart Cover is the feature where, with most flip cover cases like the Poetic, you can open the case, and the screen automatically comes on and gives you a small note taking area, plus calendar, time and weather report.

It's nice because you don't actually have to turn the tablet on. Just lift the cover.
And it's even nicer if you use a password protected lock screen (everyone should!)---because you don't have to bypass the lock screen to get to this quickie area.

Personally, I think it's a really cool feature. It would be nice if I could find a case that would
a) have both vertical and horizontal stands
b) offer otterbox commuter level protection
c) work with smart cover

I'm not sure I have an answer for that.

Hey, just thought I'd give you my opinion on a great case. I got the original Samsung case & I really love it! (almost bought a different name b/c of price but, don't skimp on this purchase, go with the Samsung.) First of all, it fits like a glove, all the cut outs are spot on, and the case is super streamlined but your tablet is still protected. The other thing I like, is that the top portion of the cover is slightly weighted so it always stays closed. It also puts your tab. in sleep mode when you close it & wakes it upon opening. It also can be used as a stand. I think it only comes in black and white or at least that's all I've seen. I was just on the Samsung site & I think it was going for $49.99.

Sounds a lot like the Poetic case---except that it's considerably more than twice the price. :) I suppose the covering may be different, then again, maybe not by a lot, but the features you list are pretty standard for slim book covers.

Here's a good video:

Curious to know how well Samsung's case would protect the tablet if it fell to the floor...

At least from the video (and what I've seen from others playing with it on their devices), it doesn't look like any significant upgrade in that regard over the Poetic. I can't tell for sure if there is some marginal difference without trying it, but it doesn't look like a case designed to emphasize protection, any more than most of the cases in the slim book, smart cover compatible style. It's just not what they are designed for. As an aside, watching my friend play with his Galaxy Note 3 phone, that flip cover case is SO flimsy, it is scary. That I could not live with.

I like the Roocase leather ones. Belkin has a very basic very slim one too... KISS principle applies cause at home I prefer to dock my devices. Smaller, thinner less intrusive cases or none at all is about the only way to use a dock... And for me, tablets take less abuse than phones.

Hey everyone, I posted earlier about liking the Samsung case for my 2014 Ed. tab. I saw someone had asked about the protection the case would provide if dropped. One thing I did forget to mention is, all the corners of the tablet are protected by the hard plastic -type mold which secures the tablet in the case which do come up slightly higher than the tablet. In my opinion, I think the protection is as good as you're gonna get when choosing any of the really slim, streamline cases. Of course, there are bulkier cases out there that offer more protection, It's just a personal preference, I guess!

Thanks monsieurms for sharing that video.

Those two case are indeed very similar in construction. The Moko ultra light is almost identical to the poetic but i think that the outer casing on the Moko is fractionally thicker.

All three of them uses a snap-on method to hold the tab in place and that is where the problem lies. My tablet fell off an 18 inch high stool and as it hit the ground, the case flew off as the snap method cannot sustain any kind of shock. Maybe the case did take the blunt of the fall but I was totally gross out that the tab was damage and became very aware of the level of protection offered by this type of case.

What would be great is a rugged case that offer smart cover.
