Now, who wants a metal phone?

I have been hearing about this all day on reddit and the Verge. No big publications have reported on this either. Strange.

I know this also happened to the iPhone 5/5s line and it's only a matter of time before we see it happening on the regular iPhone 6.

This is what happens when you use aluminum in an extremely thin phone

I don't remember this happening to the 5 or 5S.

Because Apple is the media darling and they never do anything wrong. Could you imagine if this was Samsung?!?! lol....they'd all have a field day!

The only advantages to aluminum in a phone are appearance and feel. However they damage much more easily and are slippery to hold so a case is pretty much required. Given that, I fail to see the point. Yet right here on Android Central they are still pimping the aluminum M8 case over the new and almost certainly more durable plastic case on the Butterfly.

I have the same issues with my HP work laptop. It's not nearly as durable as my old plastic Lenovo ThinkPad. Metal dents and scratches and bends, just a poor choice for consumer mobile electronics. My laptop is even worse because it has a matte finish on it that looks like plastic. Why? Because consumers are stupid I guess.

I can only hope that "bendgate" turns the tide back to more practical designs.

I love metal phones.....when they are thicker and maybe smaller. Moto is my fav manufacturer and most if not all their older phones were metal. I kinda see why Moto went away from metal when they made the Droid RAZR, and using a material like Kevlar.

I dont like the thin, ultra thin phones. I had a Rezound and I know that had to be made of metal it was so heavy. It also had alot of rubber, plastic for the back too.

I've owned tempered glass-back phones ever since the Nexus 4 and never had a break from either pocketing or dropping. And pocket or dropping breakage reports were never as high as these warping aluminum reports. Gimme moar glass!

There's a few people now going so far as to claim that the bending iPhone 6 is a "myth" that's been "debunked". They're citing the recent stress test by Consumer Reports, who have stated that the phone will be fine for typical use.

I beg to differ. The CR test says they used 55lbs of pressure before any warping was evident. I weigh nearly 4x that amount. Even a skinny guy weighs at least triple that amount. So all it would take is one single incident of forgetting it was in my back pocket and sitting down and presto, I now own a bent iPhone 6 for the remainder of my 2 year contract.

Most people know that phones can bend when sat upon.

The real issue is those who are jumping at the chance to slam Apple because of this.

No cell phone is indestructible and anyone who normally carries a cell phone in their back pocket and sits directly on it has never damaged one is lucky.

Being lucky is no excuse for being unwise just for convenience sake of not protecting your investment.

I disagree, I've forgotten to take it out of my back pocket when I get into the car quite a few times and never had a bend or crack. And I've even owned 2 phones that used a tempered glass body. Were I to do so that many times with an aluminum phone (which consumer reports was kind enough to show me will happen in their effort to say it won't) I'd end up with a warped iPhone.

Like I said being lucky is no reason to be unwise. Cellphones aren't indestructible and either you take the appropriate steps to protect them or suffer the consequences when a mishap happens.
