Now, who wants a metal phone?

Metal phone?
I'd like the best materials possible and that isn't Aluminium really. Its heavy, ductile and expense to form.

I read that HTC are considering Ceramics for the M9!

Like I said being lucky is no reason to be unwise. Cellphones aren't indestructible and either you take the appropriate steps to protect them or suffer the consequences when a mishap happens.
When I use key words like "quite a few times" it's not "lucky", it's called not being a thin long phone made out of metal. You're being an apologist for a bad design decision.

I think it's really stupid to keep your phone in your back pocket, that is like, the worst place to carry it. I get the point of maybe not having front pockets, but get them. Stop sitting on your phone with like 150+ pounds of force.
In any case, I kinda would like metal, the GS5 creaks easily and it makes it feel cheap. The plastic on the side like pretty cheap too.

And to solve the issue
http://m.caltech.edu/content/strong...searchers-have-new-way-process-metallic-glass
You could also use steel for the phone, and coat it with like zinc to keep it from rusting/corroding
Or, just stop sitting on your phone

Let me see if I understand you correctly... You get away with doing something totally unwise not once but several times with putting a piece of glass and aluminum in your back pocket and sitting on it without consequences and I am a apologists?

Seriously?

Please show me where Apple or any other Oem recommends doing this to a touch screen or is promoted for a selling feature?
Please explain to me when lack of common sense for the sake of convenience on anyone's part is a bad design?

Yeah because it's SO unreasonable to slip up and forget to pull it out half a dozen times over an entire year or two. You probably never make mistakes though.

My eyes are rolling so hard there's smoke coming out of them

When it comes to doing this.... you're correct I don't.

I actually went out and paid money for a tempered glass screen protector and a top of the line case with a belt clip just so I could protect my investment.... Gasp

Blaming Apple with lame excuses for your forgetfulness or any other reason you chose to do something unwise, ignorant or just plain dumb without taking adequate precautions against is uncalled for.

A mistake on your part doesn't constitute a mistake on Apples part.

No.. FYI... I don't use a iPhone I use a HTC m8.

Your reply is just a indication of being a Apple hater who uses any excuse, even one of your own laziness , to fault them.

I have no such qualms and have enough common sense to not do this with any cellphone regardless of the manufacturer.

I find it quite sad that people today are ready to jump at a chance to blame a company, any company, for not taking into consideration their own stupidity or laziness, It's always easier to blame someone else instead of having the courage to admit your own mistakes.

Good grief I suppose every phone manufacturer will have to start putting warning labels on every devices to save themselves the hassles from stupid people now................

Stupid people are one thing. But it is also ridiculous that somebody should be expected to go to such lengths to protect a phone when the manufacturers know exactly how they are used. I haven't used a case in years and have never had an issue with plastic and gorilla glass. Why would they take a step back and use bendable, slippery, easily scratched and dented aluminum? They know damn well it isn't as durable, yet they market it as a premium material. That's one of the reasons I went with the S5 over the M8, aluminum is for people who fondle their phones more than they use them. It has no redeeming practical qualities over good plastic in a phone.

My hope is that "bendgate", which is overblown but still very real, will finally drill that into the public bringing the metal phone fad to an end.

Not according to the guy one post above you living in Apple's reality distortion field. Apparently users have to be stupid and lazy for questioning faults. I guess that means the media are all stupid for reporting it too. Good to know the manufacturer can do no wrong though. Please tell poor stupid lazy me how to use your device properly some more please!

Lol.

I have to say, I can see both sides, people are stupid and blame companies first but at the same time this dumb metal fad is annoying. Now it is now common knowledge that metal is not durable at all, yet it is seen as premium, premium in styling yes. But as far as being used as something other than jewelry? Nope.

I have been against this metal fad since the beginning, I never understood, why metal became premium.

If anything leather, and kevlar would be more premium as they can be fashioned into something stylish but also be tough. This is why I think Motorola offering leather backs is amazing. I also think they should bring back the kevlar again for the next batch of Droids.

Stupid people need caution stickers plastered all over it with common sense instructions. I suppose that might help those who can't think for themselves...

For every one of those there's twice as many fanboys ready to be led around by the nose making lame excuses for poor craftsmanship simply because they're emotionally married to a collection of circuits with a logo on it. I'd say those are the ones most in need of caution stickers to warn others to steer clear of their foolishness.

Maybe but I sure ain't a fanboy of the iPhone or the company in any way and I am not making excuses for them.

I refuse to carry a cell phone around in my pocket because I carry other things in my pockets.

I'm used to having all of the large phones I have owned being as protected as possible to keep my investment in pristine condition, and these include the 2 Samsung Galaxy Notes and the Lumina 1520 for the really big ones I have owned in the past. These big phones are not designed to be carried around in pockets and they are uncomfortable to do so anyway. These aren't some dinky 4" screened phone.

Why would anyone want to do this in the first place? I'll tell you why... It's not convenient to use a good case for it and learn to carry it in it , or it looks funny and out of place for those who are so vain about how it looks... Lord knows that I caught tons of ribbing when I carried my insipeo cased 1520 phone inside the leather Pdair holster on my side... Things like dammmm Bro you carrying a big screen TV around there... So I know...but I don't care what others think about it, they can laugh and make jokes about it all the want. But when I sell it or return it neglect is not a issue ever.

Big phones aren't dinky phones and can't be treated like one. This is a fact with any of them from any manufacturer. This is just common sense and first hand experience talking and this isn't being a apologists or making lame excuses for Apple... I've seen bent phones from this and also cracked screens.

What is lame and stupid to me is those who feel that it's perfectly normal to do this with this big of a phone just because they have in the past with a small phone... and then jump on the company because a few phones have gotten bent and state that the company has a design flaw. The bigger and thinner these phones become the easier they are going to bend, and the easier damage to the screen will happen...

What makes more sense, protect your investment or not? How much do they cost?

If I was Apple... I would put warning stickers all over it warning people not to carry it in their pockets... I also know full well that this would cause a uproar too since this is how many people do..... but just because many people do this doesn't make it right regardless of what these folks say. They do this because they choose to not because it is recommended by the company as a acceptable means of transporting the phones.

Either way knowing how Apple does things I'm pretty sure that they will replace the ones that deserve replacing.

Are you referring just to the back pocket? Or all of your pockets? I mean of you don't carry it in your pocket, where would you carry it?

I carry my m8 in a Siedo Surface case and holster and have a tempered glass screen protector on it. There would be no reason for me to do so otherwise if I had a new iPhone. I don't carry mine in any of my pants pockets.

I am proactive and make sure that I have a great case and screen protector purchased prior to getting the phone that way I have the piece of mind that it covered. It's not a after thought about doing this.

I have to admit, I do kinda wish holsters would come back in style. So much easier to access when sitting. I'm not quite old enough to get away with that though.

That aside, this particular thread is about metal phones. Even if you ignore the fact that they bend, they are still slippery and easily damaged. Metal serves no practical use over plastic other than preening. If you use a case, why would you care what it is made of anyway? This mentality of defending an inferior material makes no sense to me. Demand better!

That's a cool story. But I don't really think you're quite as awesome as you appear to think of yourself to call others stupid and lazy. The flip phone Era called and they want their holster back.

Lol.

That's a cool story. But I don't really think you specifically are in a position to call anyone stupid and lazy. I think we have a big disconnect happening here between how high you think of yourself and how you actually are.
I don't think myself high but practical.

The only disconnect is from people who can't comprehend simple logic.

There are people who are lazy and there are people who are stupid in this world and I have no reservations about being direct about them. If this offends your sensibility on the subject, I apologize but have always been this way.

If a person damages their phone because they refuse to take precautions against doing so out of being inconvenienced as I have stated that is being lazy. If they continue to lament the fact that is stupidity and if they continue to not learn from mistakes that is being stupid..
.
Now the question remains, is it recommended to carry such an expensive and large phone in a manner that can cause serious damage acceptable because of past practices of carrying a much smaller device in the same manner? Should the company have known that people would do this and have tested it in a manner that they don't recommend doing it?

The answer is in my opinion no...and if I am not mistaken they tested the phones in a manner that all manufacturers do and as such the onus of common sense rest with the consumer and as such they released the product for sale. Why... because large phones have been out long enough for most of the market to know about the best method of carrying them and protecting them properly.

Carrying large phones have a different set of issues than that of much smaller devices and it is up to the consumer to use common sense when going about it and choose the right size phone for their usages and how they carry the device.

I look at things from a practical approach and have a firm grasp of the laws of physics and also know full well Murphy's law of life. It's sad that many people don't. Many people who have a great hatred against Apple and enjoy posting negativity when ever they can rail against people who say anything against their own point of view as what has happened here...

FYI... my definition of stupid and stupidity can apply to highly intelligent people but both give the benefit of the doubt to the individual. With this issue it comes down to wither this person is ignorant of certain facts or if they have automatically assumed certain facts based on faulty reasonings, or have ignored these for sake of convenience... hence calling some of them just lazy. If the latter then their actions would be called stupid not them in person. We've all done stupid things before, but the majority learn from these things and strive to not repeat them.... Those who don't are stupid.

But why should someone take extra precautions to use a device they use EVERY day? By default smartphone companies should be focusing on function than form.

I don't care what anyone says, Apple should have known before hand that making their phones so damn thin they were more suspectable to being bent and then not bending back because of the metal body.

This also goes for other iPhones as well, I knew many people with broken I phones and I myself have broken a few phones in the past couple years. Smartphones are too fragile.

I should have to change the way I use my phone, my phone should adapt to who I already am and how I live. This is why the 6 Plus would be the last phone I recommend to anyone because of this.

Not to mention it is a freaking phablet that is bigger than other phablets. Have you seen it next to a G3? It makes the G3 look normal.
