So it was listed as 579 plus ca sales tax. Estimated 626 out the door I figured. Just a heads up I asked them and it is 540 plus tax about 586 out the door.

I agree. I was stoked when I heard.

A lot of people (including me) who purchased from AT&T the week it was released were purchasing for $540 instead of the advertised $579 price.

I'm confused; off-contract pricing on Moto Maker for AT&T is $579. I bought one and that's what I was charged. How do you get it for $540? In-store?

Yes. Purchased in-store the day after it became available.

I choose to exchange mine for a different color combo, and the rep said that because I purchased direct from Moto Maker, the process was much simpler than if I purchased a card thing from the AT&T store (they just gave me a code to buy a new phone, and emailed me a pre-paid shipping label for my first phone). If you are confident in your color choice, it's probably worth it to save $40 and buy from the store.

Avoiding the AT&T store is probably worth $40 to a lot of people though.

This pricing is confirmed today in my local store.
