But it is expected to make it more useable with better battery life correct not to mention other unrevealed performance enhancements

Key: expected.
Everybody's anger here is based on expectations. I'm betting these delays are so that this update will meet those expectations. So I'll wait.

No, not again! :p Fact: 2.1 will not make the Droid any more useable. It's fine as it is. You didn't buy the Droid for the 2.1 update, you bought it for what it was at 2.0.

Define "more usable"

While you're at it; don't.
Because usability is all in accordance with whomever is using it.

Chris, the rest of this isn't aimed at you. :P

If 2.1 isn't something you're down with, thats cool. But it IS one of the reasons I bought the Droid.

And you can sit here and call me spoiled and pissy all you want! But it doesn't change the fact that when I spend a LOT of money on a PHONE, I expect it to not be out of date in under three months. I expect some of that cash I put down to be put forth into continued updating and support.

Imagine buying a home back in the day with no furnace, but it was a wood stove. You are told that when you spent all of this money on this home (twice what normal homes cost) that you'd get central heating. Does the stove make the house warm? Yeah, it does the job, but not with the smoothness of a gas powered furnace. Later a house goes up next to yours with a central heating system (nicer than your wood stove) and you say "hey, how much that place cost ya?" and you hear back "The same as yours" you'd get a bit annoyed. And your contractor keeps pushing the date that he'll put in the system for you......and never gives you a clear answer.

So before you "anti 2.1" trolls swoop down on me (not you Chris). Please, think.

Leaked documents and offhand comments don't count as "[they] have been telling people [officially]". The only real date we have to go by is the "Q1" announcement made by Motorola, iirc.

AAAAAAAAAAAAND the page VERIZON has on its site..........Seems pretty clear cut to me

2.1 might make the system run a bit smoother but it is more of an aesthetic upgrade. aside from all of the flash it is the same device that can do the same functions. if you buy a product with the idea that you are guaranteed/owed and upgrade you are going to live a life of dissatisfaction. What happens if you bought the droid and moto or android just colapses and goes bankrupt and there is nobody else to support an upgrade. you don't buy anything on the ideas of what it can possibly do in the future. you buy it for what you can do with it now. if you are not satisfied with your droid then you should return it. it might not be the device for you. do i think the upgrade should be pushed out ASAP, yes. do i think people deserve an update, yes. but it should not be the basis of your mindset when you purchase a device. if you are never satisfied with what you have and always want bigger and better then everything will seem empty once you obtain it because there will always be new, better, faster upgrade to anything you buy. do some research before you buy something and see if you think you will be happy with it (as is) before you fork over the cash to buy it.

I 100% agree. Updates are commonplace, and are definitely welcomed by any tech community, but we aren't OWED an update. Even when Windows XP and Vista desperately needed service packs, we weren't OWED them. Even though they needed the service packs, we still couldn't do anything about the OS's problems until the updates were released. As you may recall, these Windows releases were not updated or patched over night. There were months of frustrations and pissed off IT guys until FINALLY microsoft released the updates. I'm just glad that we only have minor issues with 2.0.1, and not major ones. there would be an even bigger uproar regarding the delay of 2.1. That brings me to my next point. No matter how much all of you complain, whine, whimper, bash Motorola, bash VZW, condemn the Droid, threaten to swtich carriers, switch phones, etc. IT WILL NOT MAKE THE UPDATE GET RELEASED ANY FASTER. All we can do is wait, and enjoy our phones the way they are until the update is released.

understandable, but if you were asked the difference between many of them you could NEVER find it... ;)

I have to respectively counter your argument. While yes, it's a smartphone, it does nifty fun things, but you are NEVER owed an upgrade at a certain date. Take your Windows7 computer, you NEVER know when that will update, do you? Yes, it happens and its cool, and the Droid update will come, but its not as big of a deal as others are saying. It doesn't fix something thats broken and renders the phone useless, or completely revolutionize it, now does it? Whether the update was pushed back due to the OTA provider, or Verizon just well being Verizon, is unknown and really just heresay at this point. Things get delayed, its all in the fun of the smart phone game.

There is a certain degree of responsibility that a company takes when it releases a device into the the mainstream like this. Sure they're not contractually obligated to do anything, but there is that whole ethics thing they try to follow. Keeping a system up to date as long is possible falls into that category, in my opinion. With respect to Windows service packs -- those were absolutely required most of the time. When companies build/develop/sell products that effect so many people, they have to assume some sort of responsibility -- they don't get a free ride.

That analogy is irrelevant. To the argument you are making. Ok yes, if the contractor keeps pushing the date back it would be annoying but if they are coin it for free then you shouldn't complain. If you are paying them additional money for the job hen you have a right to complain.

People need to stop complaining. This update does not cost us anything. It is a perk to owning the droid but it is not a necessity and if you bought the droid purely on what you hope it does in the future you bought the wrong phone. The droid is a amazing device and as long as it holds the test of time and is consistantly reliable I will be happy. Even getting the updates, I will be happy if my future experience will be as good as my current one.

Seriously? A promise for something, if free, shouldn't ever be questioned or complained about? Starting to sound like the government.

Maybe this thread needs to be moved and have the title changed?
How does "official 2.1 argument thread" sound. This is no longer about the update.

arguingOnTheInternet.gif

Someone had to post it.

I'm locking this till the update drops. Any new thread regarding this delayed update that result in arguing will also get locked. We are all adults. Lets start acting like it.
