Official 2.1 findings thread

10 days until the 31st. The 31st is THE last day that they promised it'd hit by (By end of Q1)

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but the only reason we seem to think it'll be out be the end of Q1 is because of the cryptic mentions of delivery "soon" and "Spring". Truth is that it will be Spring all the way until the end of June (almost) and, Q1 is more like Winter quarter than it is Spring quarter (which is more like Q2). So, remind me again how we got the idea that 2.1 was promised to us by the end of Q1?

Probably because the only official announcement on the matter being that the Droid would get it by the end of Q1.


So nothing cryptic, this is official.

And Q1 is Jan 1st- March 31st

QFT = "Quoted for truth" (in this instance). I remember the whole iPhone MMS fiasco. That was a huge fustercluck, which I'm afraid this may turn into if Verizon doesn't kick its content deliverers in the pants to get this update out. I'm going to guess April 2.

We all remember the chart that MOTO put up to please all of us. Do remember the explanations of Q1,Q2 and so on?

Q1 = First Quarter of 2010
Q2 = Second Quarter of 2010
Q3 = Third Quarter of 2010
Soon = Whenever the hell we or Verizon feel like sending it out.

The facebook/forums message was pulled and apologized for (minus the facebook).


And the "leaked internal document" wasn't announced at ALL. Plus I doubt the authenticity of said document.

2.1 is a hoax! You cannot believe anything that is released on 2.1 anymore. Verizon said it was not delayed but yet we dont have it.....I dont get it. I have a friend that works at Verizon and has the Droid and he said that he has not heard anything about 2.1 being pushed out to his phone or to any other Droid on the network. His info is usually spot on, we'll see.....

Yes, I'm well aware of what Q1 means. Actually, Q1 is the first 13 weeks of a 52-week fiscal calendar, so if you want to split hairs, Q1 ends this Friday (the 26th).

I was simply trying to say that I don't remember any "official" announcement being mentioned here (or anywhere else) about 2.1 being released to the Droid in "Q1". After doing a quick Google search, it would seem that no such "official" announcement ever existed, but rather, it was a result of the rumor mill and people trying to infer what was meant by Motorola/Verizon when they said things like "soon" or "Spring".

Go back and check and I think you'll find that the official "Q1 release" announcement is nowhere to be found as far as the Moto Droid is concerned. The Milestone (European version only) is another matter.

Yes, that same announcement said "Q1" for the Euro-only Milestone and "Soon" for the Droid. Soon != Q1

I guess you are correct they weren't announced at all. However we did have a leaked internal document then a forum post on the Motorola Droid support forum which confirmed the last date. Then suddenly another leaked internal document updating the status to TBA from the 18th. So as I said before Q1 is about as official as the last announcement/date/leaked document/whatever.

There did I cover all my bases this time or are you going to nit pick some more?

Doesn't the Q1 comments go back to Google's Nexus announcement in January. Motorola's CEO announced it live as a 1st quarter update. This is long before the forum posts and mentions of spring. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Its my job to nit pick. Don't take it so personally.

I am doubting the authenticity of that document though. I mean, BGR broke that story, and we all know how trustworthy BGR is with regards to android stuff
