Official 4.0.4 release date and questions

Nexus ICS is 'pure' android. No fragmentation with this device.

Aside from GSM/CDMA radios, Verizon/Non-Verizon, that's correct. So there is "fragmentation," just not to the degree of everything else.

Considering the big issues with the Verizon version (when compared relatively to the GSM version), this "fragmentation" may be at the root of the holdup.

I have two Gnexes since I broke one screen and had it replaced. Since I had a back up I went ahead and rooted, unlocked and installed the leaked 4.04 update. It went smooth. My speed test went from 6000 to 10000 kps and my signal strength from .96 dbm to .93 dbm at my house. I have never had the mic issues or dropping of data with either phone so I cannot comment on those issues.

Sound is much louder without having to have it maxed out and the transition from landscape to portrait is slightly faster. My everyday phone, the one with the slightly better screen, is not rooted and I will let wait for the OTA.

I have 4.0.4 and it changes the laws of physics to be in my favor. I no longer have the random reboot problem, in fact now other phones in the vicinity randomly reboot out of fear. The update comes with a Foxconn employee who will follow you around and polish your phone if it gets dirty. Also it comes with a charging dock. Shame on Verizon for holding back this crucial update!

You were never promised fast updates. Show me where on Google's, Samsung's, or Verizon's website it says anything about fast updates.

I think part of the problem with peoples expectations are that the fan base themselves were hyping up the timeliness of updates to the Nexus line (which I don't think ever had a basis in reality). I mean sure, it makes sense to think that since the device is stock and updates come direct from Google (at least the GSM "yakju" version), then they should come quicker than most. But as we now know, that's not always the case.

People aren't realizing there isn't an official release of ics in the states. Even on the vivid. At&t claims there's no update.

Andrew, no matter what I do I keep getting the error "cannot load recovery.img" Any explanation?

Thanks!
I have the same issue. :( I really want to flash this. The bootloader is unlocked, but my phone is not rooted. I have the touch version of CWM in the same folder as the dude in the video with all of my other files. I reboot to the bootloader screen, but when I type in fastboot boot recov (what I named CWM), nothing happens.. :(

**Nevermind, apparently you have to add an extra .img to the cmd prompt.
This is a copy of what I posted to XDA: I just unlocked my bootloader for the first time last night. I decided to flash this, because I was embarrassed by the times when I couldn't pull data, when showing my friends things on my phone. A lot of them have iPhones, and it's hard to explain why Android is freaking amazing, when you have this problem. So, I did it. It was the best decision I have ever made. I now have a phone that is super snappy & pulls -93 dbm in my house... just like my Bionic! Before, it was consistently @ -125 dbm. I live in a 3g only area. Thanks!
