Official Battery Life Thread

I got about 7hrs on my first full charge, but I was pretty much on it nonstop setting things up. I was also on wifi and 3G since my area doesn't have LTE yet.

Yesterday after a full charge and what I would consider very heavy usage. A short phone call or two, texting, surfing the internet, downloading all the apps that I had previously had, setting the phone up they way I like it, adding facebook, email etc..., and staring at the beautiful screen. I got about 5 1/2 hours.

At about 10:30 PM EST last night I changed the battery used the phone very little, went to bed with it unplugged, woke up today made a phone call, sent about an average amount of texts (20 maybe 30). It is now 11:00 AM EST and my phone says it's been on battery for 11h 58m and the battery is at 19%.

Both results were with a mixture of 4G and WiFi. I converted over from the ThunderBolt and with what I consider moderate use by me (many texts, a few times using the internet, checking FB a few times, and maybe a call or two.) my ThunderBolt was wanting a charge after about 5 1/2 hours. And I didn't dare fall asleep with that thing unplugged.

So over all I think the battery is better than the Thunderbolt, but still could be improved upon. I seriously doubt that I will ever get this many hours out of a charge again on this phone, as I am intentionally using it very little to see what kind of life I do get.

Came from HTC Thunderbolt, which was said to have a notorious battery life.

Back in my first day of Thunderbolt (with early version of stock rom), I couldn't last a day work at my job with mild-moderate use of my phone. Then, it has been getting better and better as devs came with custom roms. By 12/14/2011, I have been sparing 30~40% of standard battery on my Tbolt when I was leaving my work.

GN seems in need of a little bit of tuning in terms of battery. My personal feeling on the first day? It feels just like the first day of my Tbolt. It barely last a day's work. Seems like it's dropping approximately 7% an hour with mild usage (I work in a REALLY WEAK signal area which consume more battery than usual). Moderate usage may cause 10~15% drop an hour. Even though my GN will last a day's work of mine at this moment, considering that it comes with 1800mAh battery, I expect a little better performance. I, however, believe this battery life will surely improve as the updates and custom roms come out.

For those who transitioned from D1, D2, DX, and other 3G phones, please be advised that this is 4G phone. You were driving a naturally aspirated engine vehicle before, and now you are onboard a turbocharged engine vehicle (with nitrous oxide?). This will give you a significant speed enhancement, at a cost of battery life. I also came from D1 and DX, before my Tbolt. So, I remember the difference. You should not expect the battery life of D1 or DX from a 4G phone, at least for now.

I was streaming internet radio during my 20 minute commute this morning and went from 33% to 15%. Something isn't right here. My Crapberry wouldn't flinch at that.

One of the only strengths Blackberry has - battery.

This doesn't surprise me. My Nexus S 4G is the same. Abysmal battery.

Well I have had the phone off the charger for 4 hours and 50 minutes and I am at 31% battery life. All I have done on the phone was sent a few texts out throughout the day, upload 1 picture to facebook and play some words with friends. This is going to be a deal breaker for me I think.

You really should wait it out a little bit. It took my Thunderbolt about a week to really get a feel for how I used it and the phone needs to learn how much juice it actually has. There was a huge thread about "bump charging" in the Thunderbolt forums.

I could get decent battery life on the Thunderbolt after I tweaked it a little bit as well and the Thunderbolt only has a 1400mah battery and HTC's are notorious for less than stellar battery life.

My battery drops about 1% every 3 mins. Even while having low brightness. Im very disappointed thus far with the battery life. Ive read in a couple of places that the first few days will be tough on the battery, not sure how that works but im hitting my first 24 hr mark now and im crossing my fingers it gets better. I purchased the additional battery with the charging kit yesterday. I took my phone off the charger at 7am this morning with a full charge, by 11am i was putting in my 2nd battery only after moderate use, texting and a bit of web browsing. Hope this gets better.

Not been too impressed by battery life so far, at 48% with 6 hours since full charge. Coming from a Dinc with CM7, it's certainly a lot lower than I am used to at this point in day.

Usage has not been heavy at all, but I do keep turning it on to just play with it every now and again.

Is there a good shortcut/widget for turning off the 4G? I have beautiful widgets and their 4G shortcut is for HTC WiMax only

Having an average usage day, at 11am (6 hours after removed from charger) I am at 46%. With my thunderbolt around now I would be at 25-30% so slightly better life I believe, but nothing to write home about.

4 hours 40 minutes in with 83%. A lot of Gtalk use, played a game for about 10 minutes, lots of email, and some short phone calls. So far it's fairing a bit worse than my Inc but not much worse.

I got 8 hours down to 29% with what I will think will be my normal usage, a dozen phone calls and texts, an hour of YouTube, turning off the WiFi and bluetooth when not using, used navigator to route me out of town into a 3G area, downloaded a few 20mb apps and sending & receiving maybe 40 emails with doc attachments, logging onto my company's GApps. I have the extended 2150Mah battery and there just barely is a 1mm difference in thickness on the case so I am sure no one will have any problem with car mounts or cases made for the standard backing.

2nd day - charged all night and am now 6 hours into my day downloading apps on WiFi, a lot of emails and screwing around with a couple of new input apps and the phone is at 77% available. Just a couple of short videos. It has been on constantly, but I did turn off the Bluetooth but leaving the sync on and the GPS on. The battery settings says the screen brightness is using the majority of the power (I have it auto so it is kinda bright).

If I can walk away from 6 hours of use with 77% left I am happy with the extended battery.

I went to the Verizon store during lunch to purchase the extended battery. They are currently being sold for 50% off. You get them for $25+Tax.

Enjoy!

I'm not sure if this is my phone or not. I bought the extended battery and have literally been switching back and forth and charging non-stop. And yes, I am letting them drain completely. I had pretty poor battery usage yesterday with the extended battery, so this morning I turned off the 4G, turned off gps, turned down brightness, keep closing all the apps and I am still losing power at an extraordinary speed. My Droid X and X2 could go at least 6-8 hours on an extended battery with the amount I use it. This one seems to get much less. I had 54% earlier today and was playing on it for awhile and watched it go straight down to 23% in an hour and a half! Also the phone was at 23% and I sat it down and walked away. I came back 6 minutes later and it was at 19%. I think that's crazy! I didn't even touch it and it drained that much in that short of time. I like the phone, but this isn't going to cut it for me if I can't get it to last longer. Any other advice besides the things I have already tried! I want to make this work! :)

Ok, only been a couple of days but im getting about 5% an hour drain with low use an LTE on, Bluetooth off, wireless off, screen brightness on low. My contact, picture, etc. syncs are set to only over wifi (unless i force them). Hoping that switching LTE off should help as well.

I called Verizon and Samsung, they both said that there is something either wrong with the battery or phone or both. I'm bringing them back tonight or tomorrow and trying again with new stuff. We will see. Lol

7 hours and 10 minutes with 38% left. Not very heavy use. This will take some getting used to coming from my iphone. Oh well, it is def worth it. :) Im sure we have many updates to come
