Official Battery Life Thread

Pretty good here . Houston Texas strong LTE everywhere and it is a huge city. Outskirts and all. Pretty decent usage too. Answers my questions about the batteries.

Ok I give up, for everyone posting these amazing battery life stats, how about telling what you have done to your phone? Ya know, root or not? Apps installed / running. Screen brightness, how long the device was on wiFi, using 3G or 4G or both? I would be helpful to those of us that are lucky to get 8 hours a day after husbanding our devices.

Non rooted. Strong LTE signals. And screen set to auto.

I'm one of the unlucky ones. I'm almost in tears.

there should be a step by step sticky telling what changes everybody should do outright.

I barely got 5 hours today, have GPS off, have limited, have email only every hour.

I have fb and Twitter on as I should after all it's a smart phone.

everyone should run a test get a timer and record the percentage, then surf these forums for 10 minutes and record the drop.

I finally got a good sense for the battery today. Extended battery with brightness on 60%, a fair amount of talking, avg web browsing, some games and messing around and I got 7hrs 40min with 10% left. Kills my thunderbolt which would last 3-4 hours before croaking. GN could be a bit better, but I haven't tried really optimizing. I don't like the autobrightness setting as it makes the screen seem awfully dim.

I feel like I've gotten pretty decent at managing the battery on this phone. The other day, I put my phone back on the charger at 30% and had already gone 16+ hours of moderate use since the previous charge. I've got GPS enabled, screen at about 30%, and no apps disabled.

Granted, I am in a 3G only locale right now. I hope this doesn't change too much when I go back to Chicago and have a strong and constant 4G signal.

First two days with extended. 4G markets, but periods of wifi and 3G.

12+ hrs the first day, 13+ the second day. On both days, battery was run flat with no plug-in during the day to top off. Charged overnight with the phone off.

I am sure there will be days with shorter battery life, but I am glad to see this much with light to medium use.

I was getting pretty good battery life out of the standard battery on mine. Then I got the extended battery on sale and after a few days of using it my battery life has improved. This screenshot is mostly on wifi (maybe an hour on 4G), gps off, some apps that I don't use disabled, bluetooth off, and screen set around 25% for brightness. Overall I am very happy with the results on moderate use, on heavy use for me I get around 12 hours. Big improvement over my previous phone at 6 hours with moderate use or spending most of its time in airplane mode to keep the battery alive longer.

OK so my phone is still draining fast. Just now I took it off the charger at 100%. It took 10 minutes to drain down to 93%. All I was doing was browsing this forum. Any ideas?

Don't worry. That is pretty normal at the beginning. I used to have that much drain too. But now after a few cycles, my battery can last me at least 13-14 hours with medium to heavy usage. I even played GTA III for at least 20 mins when I was at 15 percent. When I was finished, the percentage hardly dropped.

After the first full charge,

-I've had 4G off for the most of this battery cycle.
-Moderate(?) use.. browsing the app market and downloading a few, sending a couple of test emails, just messing around with its screen and settings etc.
-Pretty bad signal (I hope this gets fixed soon...)

It's been 27 hours and my phone is at 36%. It's better than what I had expected because this was my smartphone and I was worried that I was going to be looking for a power outlet all day.

I showed the new phone off to all the relatives, videoed and photographed the opening of presents, and did a moderate amount of web surfing and social app interaction (and received a fair bit of email, although I only replied to one of them on my phone).

I was on Wi-Fi most of the day, but clearly a fairly heavy load with all of the camera work and showing off, no apps disabled except for the Verizon bloatware. GPS enabled. Still over 30% battery after 10 hours and 20 minutes off the charger. That's 14-15 hours of battery life if I work the battery to death, which seems eminently reasonable to me.

Obviously it drains faster on 4G, but all in all I'm pretty impressed with the batter life on the GN.

I read that not only is that normal it's healthy for the battery.

Charging all the way to 100% is supposed to be bad for battery life. Other phones may say 100% but may really be less.

Evidently this one shows what's really going on.

Same article said it's normal for the first 10% to go fast.

OK so after my post above I plugged my phone back in and let it charge again back to 100%. This time, doing the same thing after 21 minutes the phone is at 94%. This might mean the battery is not charging all the way. Any ideas on how to make it charge fully?

So whats the best way to charge the phone when you first get it? Let it drain completely? As soon as you get it and keep it charging after its full? Every battery seems to have a new method.
Lithium-Ion batteries should not be 100% drained. For the reaction to keep happening you need to have a little juice left. In all technicality what you need to leave is under "1%".

1750 battery... you would nee a trickle of about 20 out of 1750. if it drains completely the reaction stops and is near impossible to restart...

google "lithium-ion battery life and care" and do some reading.

bottom line... dont kill it, put it on the charger before it shuts off and is unable to turn back on

I actually used my phone quite a bit this morning. Under 5 hours is on the extended battery is not good. Screen on min brightness and 3g. Gps on, wifi off . What else can i do? I just surfed the web and did some facebook.
