Official Battery Life Thread

Terrible - bring it in to Verizon. Looks defective.

OK, I have read through posts and it seems like people are getting very different results.........I see a lot of usage screenshots but people never show how much time the screen has actually been on. Tonight my battery seemed to go really quick.....there have been signal issues all day and I thought maybe that was contributing to it, but it appears the screen is killing it.....How is this comparing to other people? The screen is set on auto-brightness and has been in mostly dark places so has not been set bright.....What are everyone's thoughts? .....also......This is with the extended battery.

I had sub par battery at first but after making some tweaks I've had great battery life. On a typical day I will be on 3G all day, check and update Twitter ~20 times which typically drains battery a percent each time, sync gmail, check Facebook a few times, browse, and update Engadget quite a bit. My homescreen widgets only update every 2 hours. Typical for most. I'll see anywhere from 13-18 hours on stock battery.

However what ICS features is the data cap. I have unlimited data so I don't need to cap my data but I put a max on 20 gb and warning at 15gb but by making a cap you have the option to make an app only sync data when on wifi unless you open it. (ex Twitter). I have Haxsync, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, and Google+ all using this option. I still receive push Twitter notifications and Google+ messages real time. It created a notable difference for me. My best day on 3G has been 21 hours with my lowest day being 12 hours but that was playing a lot of World of Goo and being bored syncing Twitter a hundred times.

So far my best day was Christmas Eve when I was home all day except for a two hour swim practice in the morning when I was connected through 3G. I had Wifi on all day and had normal use but managed over a day of battery life! See below.

I have been getting crazy good battery fo som odd reason. I hav NFC off an switch to wifi work. other then that I use lte before and after work and during lunch, I get a lot of texts, emails and hour+ in phone calls, and I still get 12+ hrs! my bionic would barely get 6-7hrs with the same usage. I haven't even used my extended battery because I haven't needed it yet

Right now

14hr 31min

I'll take that any day!

About to swap to a new battery. Not bad. Wifi only at home. Would have hit about 10 hours with 4 hours screen on 0% drop on radio stock battery.

I'm finally feeling like I'm getting solid battery life now. Over the past couple days i've seen 14 hours on average with moderate use. I'm hoping the battery is conditioned and i'll see better days to come.

Decided to resist the urge to charge yesterday, and managed to get 15+ hours out of the battery, with 12% remaining when I finally put it on charge for the night.

This was with what's typically moderate usage for me: a lot of Gmail, a lot of Google Reader, maybe 40 minutes of gaming, 30 minutes of streaming music (last.fm and Rdio), a few text messages, with about 50/50 between WiFi and 3G.

Not bad!

How long was your screen on? Auto-brightness?

I've never let it go all the way down (I believe that trying to keep as much charge in the battery is the best for the battery... or at least that's what Steve Gibson said, and he seems pretty damn clever ;)), but I can easily go all day (say, 6 am to 11 pm) without using more than 30% of the battery.

No Google+, no phone calls, but plenty of RSS reading, web browsing, and hundreds of texts, along with probably an hour of playing Archipelago, along with using the camera maybe 15 times.

But I can see how the battery can suck; my friend's battery is terrible. However, he returned it and it did indeed having something wrong with the battery (according to the VZW rep anyways, and we all know how useful those are).

anyone else have the issue that it charges to 99%? I have to do the old HTC Droid Incredible trick and unplug then re-plug to get it to hit 100% (bump charge). might be because I am streaming music all night with the screen on in night clock mode but want to check everything.

Hi Guys this is my first time posting. Didnt have time to look through 45 pages of forum...but Just had question. I'm attaching by battery graph, and in the middle there is a long period of screen off (bc I was sleeping), but theres a ton of Awake activity. What the hell is that? over a 6 hr period when I slept, the battery decreased 5%. Is this supposed to happen, and is it happening with you guys?

I had google sync with gmail and calendar on
and also the google location services first checkbox on
wifi keep alive during sleep.
standard battery
unlocked at&t version of GN

I'm going to test it tommrow night by turning off the google sync to see if it keeps awake when the screen is off.

I checked betterbatterystats wakelocks and its all pointing to google server syncs.
I apologize if this was covered in the past pages.....

Any ideas? Thanks!!!!!

I actively tried to see how long it would take to kill my battery today (yeah, I had nothing better to do) to reset battery stats and test the stability of undervolting settings. Between using the browser, some games, texts, and playing around with some different apps I think it did fairly well. Screen was set to 50% and mostly wifi with some 4G. The random drop in the graph was a app like juice defender that caused the phone to reboot.

I turned off all location services and it seems to have made a bit of a difference.

Nearly 9 hours. LTE off, WiFi off, BT on, GPS off. Spent time texting, processing emails (lost of spam), checking tweets, a bit of web surfing.

Screen time and time spent looking for a signal are unacceptable. I live in solid coverage.

Change the radios on the phone, also turn off location services (this is different from turning off GPS) and it will likely fix your problems. Currently I'm at 63% after10 hours and 15 mins. I used the phone today to make a call, play music, surf the web, and check e-mail. Usually my battery still drops pretty quickly when I'm not using the phone and I would lose signal regularly, but now that I have updated the radios - the signal and battery stay strong.

If you don't want to flash the radios then just be patient till the OTA comes out.

Already have all location services turned off (SETTINGS>LOCATION SERVICES). As for changing the radios, I'm going to assume that I have to be rooted to do that and flash a ROM into place?

I'm probably going to exchange the phone tomorrow. When I got the phone the speaker was doing something screwy. The best I can describe it is to say that the speaker is blown. Every sound comes with a stuttering effect.

So maybe I can either get a phone that doesn't have problems. However I will root it the minute I get it before I reinstall anything.

having BT on all the time is probably a big culprit, it's a battery hog and uses battery even when idle unlike GPS that is only using power when the icon is in the notification area.

Today I went 14 hours before I plugged it in and it was down to 19% which I thought was pretty good. I was on LTE all day and was even on the phone for a half hour to get my new modem provisioned and to have Charter upgrade my internet speed. Obviously throughout the day I also checked Facebook and my email.

I dont disagree at all. I am just trying to establish a base line that will mimic my usage when traveling for business. I am willing to bet that if I turned off BT I could get about 14 hours. Admittedly that ain't shabby (24 hours would be optimal) so I have to wonder if 4.0.3 would improve what I had already gotten.
