Does the phone working off edge affect the battery? Normally my phone works fine all day at work even with me using it, but when I'm at horse shows which are usually in east bumble somewhere so there isn't even any 3G, the battery gets sucked out super fast. I have sync, blue tooth, gps etc all turned off and only use it to communicate with people elsewhere on the property. No apps or anything being used.

that has been the case for me also. At home I get edge only. My battery could go from full charge to about 45% overnight.
Now I turn off the Mobile Network connection before I go to bed and in the morning I still have a full charge.
You can create a Widget to the "Mobile Network" switch. it is in the Widgets under Settings.

Battery life was decent on stock. Even better with MIUI rom

I have an androdi phone since two months ago, an LG Optimus Black, coming from a Nokia N8 the battery life is the biggest problem I encounter, thr N8 with my average usage live from 8am to 1am, like 16 or 17 hours, with the LG I got at most 8 hours. I have the brightness to the lowesr, turned off wifi and gps, and still.

I hate all the advices people gave me, turn off data, turn off wifi, turn off gps, turn off 3G, turn off all the extra syncyng, not have too much apps, so in escence turn everything thath makes the phone smart.

After few week I returned to the Nokia phone, but I like Android too. Hopefully Icecream Sandwich will solve some of the issues.
