[Official] Droid Charge delayed?

This displeases me. I had hoped to have more time between the release date and my ability to upgrade. I wanted to wait and see what the masses had to say about the device, but it looks like a combination of factors (being lead by piss poor self control) will lead to my being an early adopter. :D

Well, 4G still doesn't seem to be reliably up. I have a Bolt, and it hasn't been keeping a totally steady signal. And, based on the speeds we're getting, Verizon is either throttling speeds to make sure things go smoothly, or the network isn't really truly back up. I just ran a speedtest and got 4.6 up and 2.7 down. Pretty good, but nowhere near where the network has been.

Not sure if that's the reason. I received an email from VZW yesterday pushing the TB. If they were concerned about the 4G network, why would they be pushing the TB? They make seem like the TB has just been released.
PS: Here is the subject line

Big News: Meet our first 4G LTE smartphone, the ThunderBolt by HTC

UPDATE: I called the local VZW corporate store and asked the following questions:

- Is the TB for sale today? yes
- Is the Charge for sale today? no
- Is it because of the 4G network? no,if that was the case they would not be selling the TB
- Why is the Charge not for sale? not sure, could be a software issue

See, but if it was a software issue, why are they already giving out models to the winners of the Charge Landing contest? You find a certificate, not a phone, yet they've been right there at each location and given the winner a phone. I would think if there's any serious issue, they wouldn't have released ANY to the public yet. Maybe they just don't wanna flood the LTE network with all the new activations the Charge launch will bring until they're sure its stable, yet they can't stop selling the Thunderbolt, because its already out.

Yeah, I see your point. The local VZW people really don't know why its being delalyed. He stated it maybe a software issue. Its interesting that they are giving the winners actual phones. It would be interesting to know what happens when a phone is activated. I worked in the IT area and if we made an IP address change it would take a long while sometimes to take effect since it had to propogate out. Maybe it is a similar proceess when activating a phone and it puts a load on the 4G network. Just guessing

The only thing I can come up is a "Re Launch" After all this was Samsung's new Baby and Verizon's network not working etc really screwed them over. I guess Verizon does not want to say oh well well just do it tomorrow. So they get a special day all to them selves.

I have a good buddy of mine who works at the local VZWireless @ Bj's, he's been keeping up to date on the Charge release. So far he tells me it looks like early next week but no firm date yet.

There's a difference between the Bolt and the Charge. The Charge has a COMPLETELY different radio, and I can wager that Verizon didn't want to launch a whole bunch of new devices using a different radio on a network that is recovering from a major outage. It may also have different radio software.

Or to put it another way; there's no chance it was held up by anything other than the network going down.

If it was a software issue I also wonder why all of the stores in my area had multiple charges on display?

Also if it was a software issue it would be longer than a three day projection to go on sale as all the phones would have to go back

Maybe they are rolling out a software patch on 4G. Not sure how that's done on a national scale. If its like installing a software patch on a server or PC a reboot needs to be done for it to take effect.

Here is an interesting link about the 4G outage.
