Official Droid X Froyo update thread

Yep, I'm on LPP as well and love it. Any luck after removing the task killer? I suggest a battery pull after removing ATK to maximize chances of success. Froyo clearly really dislikes task killers...

Removing ATK didnt really do much. The phone does indicate that it is charging now (fully charged now), but everything else is still a mess. No WiFi, crazy messaging, missing apps and Fennec is even buggier than before (I know, I know, its alpha).

Update: After trying a full power cycle there was no change in anything, a quick battery pull and just leaving the phone sit for a bit, turning it on, and leaving it for a bit seems to have cures the WiFi (knock on wood). As of now its working uninterrupted. And as soon as I type that it kicks out. And slowly it has deteriorated to what it was before.

Downloaded and tried the update twice this afternoon, both failed. Had Droid X recovery bootstrap installed on a rooted device with renamed bloatware to begin with but uninstalled bootstrap and renamed files before first attempt. Download went fine but install stopped after less than a minute and got the update failed error after reboot. I then verified that files were all named correctly, but found that I hadn't completely removed bootstrap. Deleted hijack and logwrapper then removed bin from logwrapper.bin and tried again with same result. By this point I had spent over an hour away from work and had to get back. Unfortunately I live and work in an area where we do not have Verizon service. I have to drive 70 miles to get a 3G signal and it is my understanding that OTA updates aren't accessible from the extended network since the option is grayed out. After work this evening I feel sure that Bootstrap was the problem and think I've gotten rid of it this time. The only real change that was made on my last attempt was to change the permissions on the logwrapper.bin to match the logwrapped that had just been deleted. I can not get bootstrap recovery to load now at all and that is what I wanted while everything else seems to run fine. The problem I have now is that I can't download the update since I'm on an extended network. I've searched most of the evening but can't find the official release available to download anywhere. As you can surely tell from my description, I am new to the Droid X and it is my first experience with Android. Been tinkering with it since it was released and I have learned enough to take things slowly and to not get in a hurry. I will have time to drive back up to where I can download the update this weekend but if anyone knows how to get it outside of OTA then I'd sure appreciate it. If anyone notices something I may have missed with bootstrap I'd sure appreciate help with it also. I think the update work this time but have no way to get it,

I am a newbie of all newbies. This is my first phone of this caliber. Never had anything other than a regular phone such as LG Dare or similar. I have had this Droid x for a day or so and saw on here where the update was needed. I proceeded to do what the instructions said do. I took maybe 5 minutes or so for the bar to reach 100%. Then i installed it. Another screen came up with a green bar and when it reached the full mark the screen went to the "motorola" emblem and is there. I cant do anything with it as far as powering the phone on or off. Is this normal? Im 10-15 minutes into this situation.

Give it some time, but don't wait for days. If it stays stuck, do a battery pull and restart the phone.

So welcome to the world of "I don't Sleep because I own a smartphone", you're going to love it. :D

If you mean "Running services", then yes. But you shouldn't and why would you want to kill the update services that make the phone function correctly? Blur gets a bad rap. Kill only those processes that you KNOW you don't use/need. When in doubt, let it live.

As for rooting, users choice. The majority (though certainly not all) of today's OTA's problems come from those who rooted/rolled back/pre-released, etc. In other words, user error in manipulating complex processes without understanding all of the risks/rewards.

The froyo update has gotten an unjustified bad rap as a result.

+1. I didn't root (hard to resist) and my update seems fine as far as everything working. I do have some doubts though, so maybe I'll just do a factory reset and reinstall my apps. Better than having the problems that I've see here.

Good sir, you win

I think its dumb that they got rid of the option to remove the slider lock, but they did make the new slider easier to use.

I like the new swype look. I like how the letters are more defined.

My replacement arrives today... I'm in the " stuck on M logo" group. Tried everything...no go. Thinking back while all of this is going on, I realized that I left USB debugging on, after I unrooted, before the update. Could this have been a cause?

Froyo has been pretty solid for me so far after some annoyances for the 1st couple of hours that multiple battery pulls seemed to fix.

Here are a few +/- things for me so far:
+ATK seems to still be working and killing Apps like before
+My texts are in perfect order like they were before
-My music is all jacked up. Only a fraction of it made it over and what songs did are filed under the wrong bands. Doesn't make much sense and I'm going to re-sync with my computer and see if it fixes but still strange
-Another music issue....nothing will play! Music files, Pandora...anything.

Edit: so before I posted this I thought I would check again and now all of my music is there and where it's supposed to be AND Pandora plays. Awesome but so strange. When I checked last night before I went to bed nothing was right. No battery reset or anything since, I guess it just took a little while to work itself out.

Wanted to include the original and update incase anyone else has the same issue. Have a little patience and all should be fine.

I had a little issue. The update went ok I thought but I forgot to unroot with easy root. Now when I go in and root it says I have it but drocap, and barnacle don't work. I dl terminal emulator and typed in su and I do not have it. Should I uninstall easy root and re-install? I have all my apps pretty much backed up on appbrain, factory reset? I did a battery pull but I didn't expect that to help. I am really tired but does easy root not work with 2.2? That would make complete sense and I am an idiot.

update went fine i also have easy root.. I went on ther site
and they are working on another 1 click root for 2.2 just delete
all the root aps because they are NG till your rooted again... there
are inst how to root the X on 2.2 but im a Newb and ill wait for the easy way
again

i still keep getting below error when i hit the search button while update...

Verifying current system
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/build.prop","76f714f20045407075a08d1f8634dbadf689166c5","448243fe4bdffdd0818e81286821889880d37752")
E:Error in /cache/Blur_Version.1.13.604.MB810.Verizon.en.US.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

also i do get a option above this with diff options....phone factory reset, reboot and other stuff...how can we overcome this problem ??? i am new to android and got this phone from someone else...so not sure what he did to it or whats going on with it...

My phone won't see the Froyo update. When I select Check for Updates, it says check for update was not available at this time. I even put it on WiFi but no luck. In fact, it's always said that whenever I tried it in the past.

Well at 10:30am the screen looked the same ( after about 5 hrs) so i pulled the battery. I left it out for 45 seconds and put it back in and Im back to normal now. How do i tell if the update was successful? Does anything supposed to look different?
Would you assume that since I had the " M " screen still on my phone, that it didnt finish doing what it needed to?

Please bare with me but can you answer a couple of things that im unsure about.
1: What does " rooted" mean? Ive never had any type of smart phone so this is foreign language to me.

2: What is the pros of updating this system? one of my friends said something about he cant delete recent contacts. I dont know if he means recent phone calls or deleting people off of his contact list or what. I have no idea what he means by that. Im still trying to take all of this technology in.

Lock screen bug

The new lock screen slider on 2.2 is horrible.. overall it just looks bad. My phone locked up after sliding the lock screen for a few minutes. I almost had to take my battery out. I can definitely overlook this bug considering the new update features adobe flash support. Anyone else feel the lock screenscreens visuals should be adjusted?

Other than the new lock slider I'm loving the update. I've had no other issue so far.
