Official Droid X Froyo update thread

The froyo update has gotten an unjustified bad rap as a result.

Judging from the 2,400 complaints (issues) I'd say the rap is quite justified. If it's all the same I'll let everyone be the beta testers and maybe in 4 months I'll think about uprgrading. I'm happy as a pig in *hit with the 'old' system.

Is wireless hotspot free now, with the Froyo update? Or is it tethering that has been added with Froyo?

no f*ing way. This is Verizon remember. The company that charges you 4 times for the same DATA. 1. your normal monthly bill, 2. text messages, 3. data plans, and now wifi tethering????? While the mobile wifi has always been there VErizon locked Motorola down from offering it for free so they can nickle and dime you. This is why I'm staying rooted on the old version.

Anyone else having issues with videos not playing anymore once updated to Froyo? Ones i loaded onto the phone and ones i took will not play anymore. Not sure what the deal is here and don't remember anyone else mentioning this when I initially read through thus thread.

I am also having issues with my music not playing sometimes.

Besides these I am digging Froyo

So is the official 2.2 updated released to everyone? If so I'll flash black to 2.1 then hit it.

froyo slowed the hell out of my phone...is it just me or what? I think it looks sexy and all but like its just slow...I've restarted my phone 4 times now since i downloaded it, where when i first got my phone I restarted maybe once in like 4 months lol am i alone here or what?
Scrolling in a variety of apps is stuttery and laggy.

Scary upgrade story.
My friend advised me yesterday morning that the update was available. So, without hesitation I started the update process. All went well, or so it seemed. I then proceeded to use the phone all day: texting, surfing, taking notes, etc. About 3pm, another friend advised me that their roommate also had a Droid X and had lost the ability to talk on the phone after updating! Gasp! So, i tried mine and sure enough. The phone would ring, but I couldnt hear the caller's voice and they couldnt hear me.
Solution:
Turned out to be easy. I just had to power down the phone and power it back up. After that, the phone worked just fine. Guess Motorola and Verizon should have added one more reboot at the end of the process! :-)

Very large mp3s are skipping

So I've only gotten partway through one mix, 45 minutes long but encoded the highest bitrate (320kbps?), thus around 130mb-ish?

During playback through the default player, there are occasional skips, though these are usually limited to the time shortly following an "interruption" in the music such as going to home screen, receiving a message, etc.

Once my notification sound (for one instance of many) finishes playing, and the music returns, it often skips several times, like an old fashioned cd player. And it seems that sometimes there's a skip or two when no noticeable action was performed.

This hasn't happened before.

I don't have any other mp3 players currently installed to test, and I only have the one mix on the phone at the moment so unable to test any others. Just noting my experience in case others run across it (or already have?).

If this means all my mixes are going to skip, well sirs and madams, you shall find a very frowny face indeed.

P.S. Otherwise a smooth installation, and I'm happy as hell about the updates.

Just sayin....in order to maximize your phone's performance you should really restart in once a day....

And even if you got the phone the day it launched, its about two and a half months, so not 4....again, just sayin

My DX was rooted with easy root. I did the one button "unroot" while I downloaded 2.2 and it went perfectly.

Just rooted with the "sort of one click root" and had some problems - an error06. It was somehow related to left over files from the prior root. An update was posted last night and after 5 tries I'm rooted.

The only issues are related to Launcher Pro. Screen is slow to refresh and it takes a few seconds to dial and phone call. No big deal. I'm sure the LP folks will fix it soon enough.

yeah same here...also randomly freezes out of no where so i cant even use it, making phone calls etc...it just freezes, it sucks, totally dissapointed :( i was way too excited about this update. i wanna roll back :O

yah your right, 2 and a half i guess haha didnt notice the time going by so slow, but yeah its just the fact that i didnt NEED to do it, you know what i mean? and now I HAVE to do it if i want to use my phone haha

so anybody ROOT their new 2.2 yet? I'm trying to do it using http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...0-how-root-your-droid-x-official-2-2-ota.html but im having a lot of trouble...this is my first android phone so i guess im a noob lol...anybody have a VERY simple way of rooting it? or is this about as easy as it gets and im just SOL. Also I have a question...before I download "easyroot" so i was able to root with one click, however i couldnt use alot of apps that needed root, it would say that my device wasnt rooted when it was...I thought rooting your device was basically hacking it, so you can use other OS's like the evo's etc...thats what i heard..i mite be wrong, but then last nite i found out there is an app called superuser bootloader or something and you use that to install roms etc...so yeah I kinda want to do that, just dont know how the hell to go about doing it.

My droidx seems to have worked out all of its problem. No more lagging music player or anything now loving 2.2 once again.

Ok, I've been cautiously skeptic about this update. My X works...but not so well. I won't list em all, they've already been mentioned in others, but the machine is just simply not what it's supposed to be or was before the update. It's just sorta goofy now. I wasn't rooted either.
Some are not having a problem and that's great. I didn't at first either. I installed mine on the day of release. Mine was just so so. But today, I worked out listening to my tunes, went to work, gonna listen to them again and they wouldn't play. My Pandora wouldn't play. Youtubes won't play. It hangs on rotation. I don't even want to show off my lil black box of pride anymore until this is resolved, and it will be.
I feel assured tho, with this wide array of probs from batteries, to music players, to messages, to missing .com buttons, hangs, bricks, reboots, to just e-farts, that a fix will be right around the corner.
With the impending Big Red iPhone circling like a vulture, I wouldn't expect VZW to let this go too long.
This update to our sainted Androids is far far worse than antennagate. What's worse is the skepticism that will follow for future updates. The media will eat this up unless it's quickly corrected.

The current Froyo 2.2 is to our X as Windows ME was to our home pc:
:p

silence mode?

hey guys, after updating I can't put my phone on silent. I hit the volume button and when it gets to vibrate mode it just keeps vibrating and will not go past that to silent...anyone else having the same problem? Are we going to have to wait for an update to fix this?

Nothing to fix ;)
This is just how 2.2 works!

Just go to settings and sound.

You'll find the option to let you go to silent mode there.

The 720p videos you take with your device are not viewable on your device (if thats what you mean)

But the uploaded ones not working? I've had some lag in the gallery every now and then but I haven't heard of a fix.
