[OFFICIAL] GB Bugfix Update (4.5.602) now available

One little known oddity is that unless you are placing a call, the displayed bars represent the data signal strength, not CDMA. It switches over the CDMA only when you are in voice mode, which often results in radical shifts in displayed strength.

How do I get it to display CDMA only when not placing a call? And it still does not explain why my data connection keeps resetting (3G 5 bars then bars start going down... then switches to 1x 4 bars then bars start going down, then switches from blue to white and everything disappears and then it starts to come back to life... 1x 1 bar then 4 bars then 3g comes up then it turns blue and acts like nothing happend... all this while the phone is in my hand and im not doing anything.

It happens several times a day... by itself. Sometimes in the middle of a call. I would be talking and the calls just drops and the little dance above happens. Takes about a minute.

You can use an app like REAL SIGNAL, which will display separate bars for CDMA and EVDO on the Notification Bar. You can enable and disable it, so you don't have to leave it enabled.

I don't have the answers for the rest of your issues, maybe someone with more expertise can chime in.

I do expect that there will often be variations in signal strengths, due to interference from other radio sources, weather variations, sun activity, etc., even if you are not doing anything except looking at the display, so I don't expect too much from the bar display, except to give a relative sense of signal strength.

You might also want to check with Verizon if your DX seems to be unstable beyond the norm.

update 4.5.602 is now available to download. this is the eagerly anticipated bugfix update. and yes, before anyone asks, you will almost certainly lose root if you update :)

and hey, while youre here, post some impressions if youve gotten to download and mess around with it some
Hi,
I attempted the .602 numerous time with "update failed" message. My DX is .596 rooted, which doesn't seem to be rooted anymore. Anyhow, what do I have do to get by the "failed" message?

I can care less if I am rooted anymore. Should I:
A) sbf to froyo then grab all updates via ota?
B) get rooted .602 ?

Any hints tips or tricks - please share :)

Follow this,

1. SBF to FroYo.. once on FroYo, install z4root and perm root, if it fails or takes forever, close z4root and try again. Once it's successfully rooted, it'll reboot automatically.
2. Install Droid2bootstrap when it comes back up, bootstrap recovery and then reboot recovery
3. Make a BACKUP of your data.
4. WIPE data/cache (factory reset)
5. Install .602
6. WIPE data/cache (factory reset)
7. reboot

you're now on .602

you can't go from .596 to .602

No, install the downloaded packages you'll find on various websites. If you intall anything official OTA you'll lose root. I got mine from fabdroid.com
