[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

I'm noticing a lot of people talking about "bugs". 95% of these I have noticed and corrected by doing things like reentering login info, reinstalling the app, or just playing with a setting or two. It's to be expected.

Before you scream bloody murder that something doesn't work. Make sure you update your profile and uninstall and reinstall apps that are not working properly. Understand that your apps were running on Froyo and may not update automatically. This should solve 90% of your current issues. the other 10% should have a fix soon enough.

On a personal note: I would rather not see people complaining about this update as this thread is informative and not a space to vent

Noticed the following changes in Swype after the update.

- When entering information in search boxes, the return key changes to "Search" or "Go"
- New cursor control, when you tap in a field with data, a green pointer comes up where you can drag the cursor to where you want. When you start to drag it a magnifying glass appears to show where the cursor is.
- Hitting the swype key now automatically highlights the word where the cursor is or the word before the cursor and pops up the alternatives.

There may be more but that is what I found so far.

The cursor affects both the swype and std keyboards.

Something else I noticed is when you use the speech to text, the microphone dialog shows at the bottom of the screen rather then the middle. It also no longer gives an indication it heard you speak by displaying a wave length graph, just a stupid throbbing mic.

I just read through the entire thread. It's really kinda funny seeing all of the duplicates over and over and over again - especially the ones that ask about "do I need to unroot?"

New ones that I haven't seen mentioned:
* The PIN unlock screen has completely changed. It used to be a large, cool, transparent thing - and now it's more like the phone dialer keypad
* The voice-to-text functions in keyboards will not work when I have it connected to my bluetooth car stereo - I'll try to remove and re-add it, but I confirmed that it works fine if I turned bluetooth off

And I want to third (or fourth) the notion that the compass seems busted. I tried to use Street View and I could not calibrate the thing - no matter how many times I waved it around in a figure-8.

Personally, I like the little subtle UI changes, speed improvements, and I also want to reinforce that our keyboards (stock & Swype) have been overhauled to support multi-touch. Try it out - it works, and I promise they were different before. I just wish I could get the stupid arrows to go away at the bottom of my stock Sense keyboard without installing a third-party one that is buggy.

Wth.....Also, when gps is on, the notification icon still shows it off.
This is a battery saver. Open any GPS dependant app and notice that the notification icon will come on. So, you can leave the GPS on all of the time and it will not draw power until it is needed. The new battery usage app illustrates this. Additionally, you need to keep the GPS on for apps like SeekDroid, because with 2.3.x, programs can no longer remotely turn on the GPS.

GPS Google Maps and Telenav are working Perfect!!
