[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

is there any way you can get into settings? cuz if you do try clearing all the data and defaults in the application settings under settings-application-manage

So I downloaded GB on my unrooted EVO. Did so over wifi while it was plugged in. installed and everything no issues but when my phone came back on it would show my background with the loading screen then say HTC Sense has stopped unexpectedly please try again. and shows the force close button.

i have hit the button multiple times and it does the same thing. i have let it sit there and restart itself and nothing. i hvae pulled the battery multiple times, restarted it too.

Someone please help???
Thanks, Brendan

I had the same issue, HTC Sense kept force closing and kept trying to restart. What I did was went to market.android.com and downloaded launcher pro and when you press home it lets you decide between HTC Sense and launcher pro. I chose launcher pro went to settings and manage apps, in the All apps tab I cleared the data for HTC Sense and it finally loaded after that. It pretty much makes HTC sense back to factory default. Hope that works!

Display still using over 80% no matter what I do or don't do. Before the update, the display rarely used 5%. Everything else is using less of the battery. Why? Even a battery pull and restart doesn't make a difference. Display is using 84% while I'm doing nothing. Is anyone else having this issue at all?
I'm having the same issue with the battery; the screen went from using 4% to using 80%. How do we uninstall the update? Thanks!

Ok, I am a moron. I looked to see if there was an update for gtasks, and clear as day it says the widget won't work if it's on the sd card. Moved it back to the phone and it works great.

I am really happy with GB.

I have tried for two days to update. My Evo keeps showing a box that says checking. I have done the battery pull at least ten times and still no go. I have switched from 3g/4g/wifi and still no go. Last night I left phone on and had the update running with the checking box showing, woke up and it was still checking!!! WTF is going on???

It's not actually using 80% of your battery for the display. It's saying that of the battery power it is using that 80% of that is going towards the screen which is normal. It is a 4.3" display afterall.

So what is the big deal here ?

I don't see any great improvement. My phone is stock with maybe 12 apps installed and it ran just fine before. As far as some people saying that the clock now flips on minute changes, mine did that from day one in December when I got the phone.

Now Silent Boot does not function but the boot time is so quick it does not matter. My preference is that I would accept the longer boot time with Silent Boot working.

Downloaded 2.3 OTA today, fairly happy with it, except now my weather app won't give weather unless I keep "Use wireless networks" enabled at all times. Previously, I could enable it once, refresh the weather, and turn it off, and my weather app would keep working. Is there a workaround for this? I love having my weather app but don't want to give out my wireless network info.

One thing I noticed now is when I get a text my led doesn't flash anymore. I'm using handcent sms. Any Suggestions???

I think I am in the silent majority. My EVO with about 20 added appes works perfectly except for Netflix which will be fixed in a few days.

It seems that 98% of what I am reading is non stock apps not working correctly. That is the fault of the app designers not HTC, Sprint ot Google. It appears the app designers wait untill after an OS improvement comes out to see if their app needs to be tweeked to work with the new OS. If it does they fix it. Isn't this a normal progression. If the OS had to fit all the apps out there it would take forever to get an update out. Give it a few days and my bet is most of the apps work just fine.

Why has support for Wireless 802.11n been removed?

This is a huge downgrade. I cannot connect to my wireless N access point at above 802.11g speed like I have since the day I got my phone and I really notice the difference when browsing.

This is a huge step backward. I'm letting Sprint and HTC know I'm not very happy about this and encourage anyone else missing their wireless N protocol to do the same.

Why would they do this? For me, this offsets anything better at all about this update.

I absolutely agree. Very disappointing. Go to Settings > About Phone > Hardware Information > Wi-Fi and you'll see it shows "802.11 b/g" only. Not good.

Thought that was just me but I'm having the same microphone issues...

I'm having weird microphone speak to text issues as well. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. also the icons for it are different in different applications.

I talked this whole reply and it seems to be improving.

Wow, after reading all posts... I'm hesitant about installing this update. Is gingerbread update BETTER or WORST for the EVO 4G? DAMN!

Is this what we have been waiting for all this time.... No thanks HTC, Sprint, or whoever. I'm ok with Froyo. smf.

Same experience here. This should be added to the reported issues list on the first post in this thread. Handcent LED notifications are gone. With an update, which seem to come fairly frequently, I'm sure they'll return.

I had the same experience but only with the google search widget. When attempting to enter via speech, it didn't recognize it, no entry at all. I removed the widget and added it back, problem solved.
