[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

It's not actually using 80% of your battery for the display. It's saying that of the battery power it is using that 80% of that is going towards the screen which is normal. It is a 4.3" display afterall.

This is true. Plus the more I use the phone, the lower my screen percentage goes. It was near 80% right after the update and it's now down to 45 %. I think this is a bug that will self correct. My battery life seems about the same or even a bit better. I wouldn't worry too much about that number. :)

I think I am in the silent majority. My EVO with about 20 added appes works perfectly except for Netflix which will be fixed in a few days.

It seems that 98% of what I am reading is non stock apps not working correctly. That is the fault of the app designers not HTC, Sprint ot Google. It appears the app designers wait untill after an OS improvement comes out to see if their app needs to be tweeked to work with the new OS. If it does they fix it. Isn't this a normal progression. If the OS had to fit all the apps out there it would take forever to get an update out. Give it a few days and my bet is most of the apps work just fine.

I'm with ya! :) I haven't had any issues really. I don't use Netflix. The only problem is Handcent LED notifications. That's about it. So far, so good!!!

Really though people - issue or not, Handcent is not made by HTC nor Sprint. Neither is Netflix. Neither is ShootMe.

Those developers need to make sure their stuff works - and I'm sure there will be updates very shortly from each of them. It's not like we're the only 50 people using this phone.

It seems like there are too many bugs. I'm sticking with Froyo until a fix comes out to address the issues.

Yeah, I don't expect Handcent will take too long to fix the LED thing. It's not that big a deal for me anyway.

i unchecked fast boot. i don't reboot often but when i do - i want the full reboot.

It seems like if you hold down the power button and click on restart it does a full reboot. If you just power down and power up again it does a fast boot.

I'm having the same issue with the battery; the screen went from using 4% to using 80%. How do we uninstall the update? Thanks!

So many people are getting confused by this. Your display isn't using any more power than it was before. Before it only displayed percentages for the amount of battery that was alright used up. So a bunch of things were around 5% each, and these added up to the total percentage of the battery charge that had been used. 60% or some large number was the amount of battery remaining (but wasn't displayed under battery).

Now they account for the entire battery, so the numbers add up to 100%. As you use more things, these percentages will fluctuate. They don't separate the used battery charge from the remaining battery charge to calculate their percentages.

Before: "Of the 30% of your charge you've used, 4% was used by the display". Now: "Your display is using 80% of the power that is being consumed right now."

Honestly, my biggest gripe with GB, aside from the (hopefully) temporary Netflix problem, is the lock screen. I really miss the sleek, transparent one. I still have wireless G, so the lack of N support doesn't bother me, but that's another area that's just taken a step back. Oh, and Shoot Me -- didn't use it often, but it was great when I needed it. Guess it's time to root. My battery life does seem improved though.

I installed without a problem though it took about 1hr 20min altogether. What I have noticed is that the font size are smaller now.

I also seem to have some sort of bug that when I hang up on a call, I get a message saying that Opera Browser needs to force close. When I click ok the Meridian Music player to starts to play a song. This happens most of the time.

For now I can live with it and hope that the posting indicating that we are to upgraded to 2.3.4 is true.

I'm curious...are you people with low space problems synching a ridiculous amount of mail? Attachments on? How many days are you synching? How much of the message are you downloading?

How come i still cant update to gingerbread? It keeps saying checking.....can someone help me? Am I doing manual update right?

I see problems that I don’t want just yet. Is this ota update being push or is it user choice? THANKS

Overall, I'm pleased with this update. I like the new copy/paste, new reboot options, and other subtle changes, like the flip clock in sense actually flipping. There are a few new options in the sound menu and the hardware portion of the about phone part of the settings menu is more detailed which is cool. I also like how the applications section of the settings was redone. I like that when u click on the apps that are on SD sub section, it shows all the apps on the card as well as what's not on the card but that can be moved there. Battery life also seems to have gotten better.

The only "issues" I've had, if u wanna call them that are the voicemail indicator periodically popping up, having to reenter username and passwords to a few sites I had bookmarked, missing album art on some of my music, having to reset my alarm and alarm ringtone and I had to setup launcher pro as my launcher again. For whatever reason after the update sense was designated as my default launcher. I wouldn't call these things bugs or issues really, more like minor annoyances.

As far as the "bugs" being reported a lot of them seem to me to be mostly third party apps like Netflix which aren't working properly. I wouldn't necessarily call these issues or bugs, the majority of android devices are on froyo not gingerbread. Therefore some apps are optimized for 2.2 not 2.3.3 Just because a developer hasn't updated their app and its not working with gingerbread right now is not reason to label the update as bad or buggy. To me a buggy update means after applying it there was a loss in stock functionality. not being able to talk, connect to 3G/4G/wifi, send/receive pic or txt messages, take pix, browse the web, randomly rebooting, force closing randomly, or having a bricked device.

i haven't seen it mentioned, but no one else has noticed Sense restarting a lot? especially after viewing the installed applications in the settings menu.

The update will be pushed to your device automatically. If you checked and it's not there it could be one of two things. 1) You may not be getting good connection at that moment. 2) The update might have not hit the phone as yet. Sometimes tapping 'update profile' then check Htc software update to see if that fixes it.

Got it, lovin' it a bunch. I think the only issue I've seen so far was a random restart late last night when I came home from a movie. No idea what caused it, just noticed it happen while the phone was on my night stand. Oh well, still working smoothly! :D

Just a thought but couldn't the battery life display saying it's a high% be solely due to the fact that we're playing with the phone alot more today. Mines at 78% but I've been playing almost non stop since 11:30 am. Maybe not so much a bug?

NO. Mine was at 80% or more yesterday with me doing nothing on the phone but looking at battery utilization. 24 hours later, my display utilization is much lower, at 41% average while either doing nothing or my typical usage pattern including phone calls, email, texts, usage of apps, watching videos on Youtube, etc. I heard one other user mention that his wife's Nexus S shows high display usage of battery as well.
