[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

I have slowly been losing my phones internal memory since the gb update. I had like 225mb before gb and then I had 190mb and now I'm down to about 110mb. It would be ok if I was using all that for apps on my phone but I'm not. I don't really have that many apps on my phone right now. At most maybe 12. But I download the apps to my SD card anyway. So really I should still have a significant amount of phone memory left. With that said if any has any helpful tips on how I can get all that memory back or something please let me know. Cuz this is getting stupid. Thanks! EVO 4g

Have you tried clearing all the cache from the apps? I know the browser alone can make a crazy amount. Try this app out, it help you see quickly which apps have the most cache and provides a quick jump to the app details section so can delete the cache and free up some space. When you first run the app you'll need to do two things. You will see three buttons at the bottom of the screen. Press the first one and select "Cache Size Largest First". This makes the app list show the app with the most cache at the top of the list first. Next, press the middle button and select "Include Pre Installed Apps". This will make the app list populate with every app on your phone. Once it all loads just long press the desired app in the list until a menu shows and then select "Details". This will bring you to the app details page where all you need to do is press the "clear cache" button and free up some space. Hope that helps. :-)

Not sure if anyone else posted this or not, but I'm not reading through 85 pages to find out haha... There seems to be an SMS bug affecting a small (but acknowledged) group of Evo's since Gingerbread. I was using my Evo a few days ago on Froyo and it was fine. I hooked up my Epic the other day and upgraded the Evo to Gingerbread while it wasn't activated. I went to Sprint today to have them replace the screen on my Evo (b-spot) and when I got it back I was getting SMS errors and couldn't send text and the few texts I was receiving I was getting multiples of them. I spent 2hrs on the phone with Sprint and they did everything they could (including hard reset). They were at a loss for words. They then told me to take it back to the store. I knew changing the screen couldn't affect SMS but I went anyway. I activated my Epic before I went to the store and SMS was fine. The tech that fixed my phone was reading some forum and he said there was a known SMS bug affecting a small amount of Evo's and there should be a update pushed out 7/28/11. He felt bad so he gave me a new phone on the spot so I didn't have to wait and sure enough, the new phone is fine.

Hi. New to this forum. Have been reading many and signed on here. All I have read is nitemares about Gingerbread. My question is how do I AVOID getting updated to it? I ask because I think Froyo went on automatically one day and ever since my voice dialer didn't work (vioce to text is fine).

Anyway, I do not want to have this update on my phone. I am running realatively fine on 2.2 Is there anything to do to make sure that does not happen?

Since you're still on 2.2, i'd root your phone, that's going to be the best way to ensure you can stick with froyo. The gb update is great, other than the glaring bugs. I prefer it over froyo, though i'm peaved we have to wait for a 3rd MR to hopefully fix the remaining bugs.

There's talk of a 3rd MR coming july 28th to fix the V2T issues. I'm hoping they fix the sense reload issue as well!

Has anyone had problems with the HDMI Out. Mine does not work since the update. Has this been reported and has anyone heard of a complete comprehensive list of BUGS and whats scheduled for repairs?

Hey everyone, is it possible for someone that is already rooted to do the update to 2.3? I rooted from 2.2 a while back and was just wondering if I could apply the update to 2.3.

Thanks

I guess each device handles the gingerbread update differently. I recently got a (looked like new white refurbished) Evo yesterday, updated to gingerbread version 2.3 - I must admit, this one seem to be running fantastic. None of the Sense reload, hiccups or anything. I know that their aren't any difference between the black & white Evos. But for some reason I'm loving the Oreo look.

Updates were giving for a reason...so having your phone on an outdated version - wouldn't spell Sense...would it.

I updated to GB a couple days ago. So far so good. My battery has improved. I've only noticed some UI changes. Now I have 2.3.3, isn't there a 2.3.4?

Anyone have issues with contact photos not syncing to facebook? I did all the update facebook directory and all that. Just the other day photos disappeared and haven't been able to sync them.

Since Google launched the beta for Google +, Facebook has "blocked" the syncing of contacts and exporting of your FB contacts to "other" apps.

ok, so WHEN THE HECK are we getting fixes for Gingerbread?!!!!

My perfectly good EVO is really crappy now. Two most commonly used features are both dramatically worse now:
- Talk to Text
- Video recording/playback in 720p

I just recorded a momentous occasion in video and it is so choppy with sound dropping out, that it's worthless!!! Moment lost for ever! YOU SUCK DROID! Fix this freaking Gingerbread "update" already!!!

Not to mention that the best feature of the phone, talk to text, now blows chunks. It's as bad as an iPhone now! The room must be completely silent and devoid of any background noise for it to work at all, and even then it's riddled with errors.

I waited patiently enough, but it's been over a month now. And missing this video last night was the last straw!!!

FIX IT NOW ALREADY!

I believe I speak for others on this.

Ok, got another one for you Before doing the update I backed up all my apps using Astro file manager. Then after the update when I restored them again using Astro it seems as if App 2 SD is not showing them on the SD card, in the category of apps on SD. When I browse the contents I see them there but there not being recognized within App 2 SD. They do show up on "Phone Only" within APP 2 SD & I see the space it taken up also. Is there a special way I have to re-install apps? Also I can't remove the bloat apps now after the Gingerbread update. I'm rooted but maybe I'm forgetting something here.

Well, I've never used an SD card explorer to backup apps before so I'm not entirely sure about that. Did you just copy the .apks from the "/data/app" folder? The best way to backup your apps is with Titanium Backup...I would recommended going ahead and buying the pro key that goes with the free version. The paid version allows for batch backups instead of just one at a time. It also allows you to backup the apps data so you wont lose your progress on any games you might be playing. I'm not sure why the apps you reinstalled are able to be moved to the SD card now...quite odd. Might be best to just uninstall them all and just reinstall them from the market. Of course, it could be fixed by a simple factory reset from inside the ROM. If all of that fails, just wipe everything inside of recovery and do a fresh install of the ROM...that should clear up Amy problems.
