Happy Camper

Just got my DL09 update. Extremely happy with it.

- GPS lock is nearly instant now :D . Within 10 seconds or so. Location seems accurate still (always was for me).

- Capacitive buttons stay on to match screen-on duration - perfect.

These were my 2 biggest issues with my phone, now solved (early results indicate anyway).

It will make th Froyo wait MUCH easier for me now I am happy to say.

i downloaded the update, clicked ok and it just keeps rebooting the phone to the same screen where i click ok. its not installing the update. i am rooted. what do i do?

On the phones under my supervision it appears that being rooted prevents the update from loading.

I flashed via Odin the DL09 package to get around this. Then re-rooted the phones.

Post update I've got a new symbol in my notification bar. Right next to the wifi symbol is this square crosshairs with a sideways wifi symbol. Anyone know what that is and how to get rid of it?

its the E911 symbol and you can't get rid of it unless you root.

Received update this morning with no problems. At some point I will attempt to root my phone but I still have alot of reading to do.

update completed,

GPS, still seems to be the same at work (third floor in building) which is top floor, still takes quite a bit of time. also on google maps when it did lock in was pretty far away from where I actually am at.

button lights work as described stay on with screen.

I'm in Seattle and manually downloaded the update this morning.. I had been trying all week without success but today it finally worked.

The most annoying problem I've had with this phone is the screen locking during calls.. both regular calls and blue tooth. Very frustrating. But the good news is that I've done some test calls this morning and it has not locked during the call. Not only that, but after the call it goes back to the state it was in before the call (either locked or unlocked). I have the box of 9 dots to unlock.

I'm on the 21st floor of a skyscraper in downtown Seattle and Google maps has me about 3 blocks away initially..but that's always been the case. At least it locks me there quickly. Usually it corrects itself if I leave the app on long enough. I"m sure it will work better when I'm out of this building.

Glad those lower lights on the buttons are fixed as well.

I can't get this GPS or the backlights to work properly as described by many others here (see post #141). Someone suggested that maybe I didn't actually update properly. I think this is what it should say:

Also, this is what I have checked off for location services:

And here is the update verification:

Guys, I'm not sure where I should go from this point. The GPS does not want to lock, as I get that ring of blue around the locator icon in Google Maps. Bing Maps does something similar. I am indoors, but right next to a window. I opened the window and stuck the phone out - no help.

reboot your phone again. This cleared up the same issues for me.

I do have an odd issue though that perhaps is just because of what I've done by disabling the screen lock with the strings. But now if the screen times out the capactive buttons won't stay on after waking the phone with the power button or the volume button alone (with just one single press of either). But if I press the volume button twice the lights will come back on ... odd.

.
Only issue I have seen after the update is that my Youtube widget shows a connection error.

I haven't played with the gps or anything else yet.

I had the same issue but once I loaded YouTube a few times it went away. Now it'll scroll through the latest vids on the widget which is also a new feature.

Updated this morning.

My issue is that my computer no longer recognizes the phone. Instead of just plugging in, and then my phone going to the steps needed to access the phone and SD card, these things happen:

1. Arcsoft Media Kodak (or some other crap I only need for my videocamera) opens.
2. The phone has a sync icon and says "Media Sync Mode" with an option to cancel it.

Whether I cancel it or not, I still can't get to a normal USB connected thing.

Can soemone help?

EDIT: ALSO I noticed it said it was updating drivers, the first time it plugged in, and strangely it's showing up as K:CDDRIVE

Just so everyone knows the one click root is not working for superuser rights, you have to do it the old way by typing it all in or copy paste. Hope this helps some people that are stuck.

WOW! It took less than 5 minutes to download and install. So far so good. Only real improvement is the bottom buttons stay lit. And i have the E911 symbol in status bar also. Maybe time to root

How come it wasn't there before the update? I hate messy notification bars.

If it's the E911 icon, why do the waves disappear if I disable the Google positioning? Seems like it's Google relate - any thoughts?

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY... Another BIG issue...

I have my screen set to 2/3rds brightness (with automatic adjustment turned off). Every time my screen goes dim (or gets locked), it comes back at a much dimmer brightness than it should be. If I go into my brightness settings and just tap where the level indicator is, the phone brightens up to where it should be until the next time I lock the phone or it goes to sleep - where the same thing will happen.

Thought it may have been the new case I had covering up the sensor a little, so I removed and had the same issue. This is a big issue for me - could someone see if it's just my phone or if they're having the same problems?

The powersave option is turned off too. Help.

edit: From what I could tell it dims the screen to about the default brightness level as if you have auto adjust turned on.

first try the following,

unplug your phone, if on your computer you see any media sync processes running close them down, if not proceed

Settings>usb settings>set to mass storage

settings>applications>development>check debbugging mode and stay awake

plug in the device and wait 3 to 4 minutestry and mount the card with and without debugging mode on

I just want to confirm before I download.

I am rooted and have the bloatware in a folder called app.disabled. Do I have to move them to the regular app folder or am I find to download OTA?

Thanks, dont want to brick my phone
