Official Signal Strength and Reception Thread

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

For those who say they have not experienced a signal problem it is possible that it is happening w/o you knowing it. A friend of mine just got a GN phone. We were having lunch is a strong 4G area. I asked him if he was having a signal problem and he said no. Then I took the phone and observed it for a while. It was on 3G in a strong 4G area. Then it went back to 4G and back to 3G. Of course he did not know that and I did not bother telling him about it. We live in the Orange County CA a ver strong 4G area.
I think this is very true. If I hadn't been reading here, I would not know any better other than the dropped calls and speaker/mic problems I had.

Is that a signal issue or an issue with the phone switching between 4G and 3G?

Depending on the of the OC you are in, signal issues could be a problem. Especially if it is one of the canyon areas.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I live just outside of columbus, ohio and am right on the edge of the 4g coverage, and most of the time even at home i still get good speeds with the signal i get and dont have any drops. Once I travel maybe 1 mile towards columbus i have a full 4g signal the entire time. Basically, no issues. I dont always have a full 4g signal, but thats to be expected with the coverage.

I think this is very true. If I hadn't been reading here, I would not know any better other than the dropped calls and speaker/mic problems I had.

so basically everything to you seemed fine as far as signal went and you were happy with it until people told you that you shouldnt be?

No, I began reading here before I first bought the phone. I came here to do research.

What would have happened had I not researched this is that I would have just thought it was normal for 4G LTE phones to switch back and forth between 3G and 4G like that. I wouldn't have known that is not normal.

I'm pretty sure that says it all. I hate, hate, hate the reception on this phone, but damn do I love everything else about it. Torn!

Not have any problems here. I have been having 3-4 bars of 4G. I'm usually around -94 db

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

What I actually found is that if I don't pay attention to it, and just use it, each time I use it, it actually just works. I know many times my TB did not get a 4G signal, which I assumed was normal, but maybe I just didn't pay attention to it like I do now, just because of the rumors. So, stop looking at your signal, and just use your phone.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I switched from the NS4G on Sprint to the Galaxy Nexus and it has been a breath of fresh air (Well worth the ETF). The signal was truly terrible on the NS4G even with a network extender and it has been a noticeable difference on Verizon with the Galaxy, even though people have been having issues with the signal strength and network handoffs. I have noticed some slow handoffs, but overall the signal is rock solid for me. However, I purchased one for my wife and the signal was terrible with routine dropped calls and wild signal swings. Even when we were in the same area, I could make a clear call and she couldn't. I took her phone back to VZW and got a replacement and her connection is rock solid. I say all of this to say that it's very possible that there are some lemons out there.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I have had quite a few low signal issues, when others around me seem to be fine. I also had a few dropped calls in my home this past Friday.

FYI- I just called Verizon tonight and spoke with customer service. She told me an internal bulletin was issued a few days ago, that essentially stated to not replace phones for signal issues because a software update was coming.

I'll try to be a little more patient...

Yeah, well I called Verizon to complain of a total drop in data. During the call, the phone lost voice connection and dropped the call. So....another call in and they sent a replacement overnight to me. As far as I can tell, the device I received is new (I assume it is still too early for them to ship refurbs).

At the same time the rep was arranging the shipment, I asked about the 4.0.3 update and was told that it was not only a fix for the signal display but was also to include an update for signal handling, too. So here's to crossing our fingers.....

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I have has non-stop data issues for the past two days. I thought it was just because of the fact that i was traveling, but it has kept giving me problems even now that i am back home. I lose all data capabilities all together for hours at a time. I still have voice and text, but absolutely no data.

Constant data issues here. My signal will go up and down all day. I purchased the nexus knowing these issues existed. We just have to hope the verizon in google get there $hit together.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I am on my second GNex. Both have been plagued with signal issues. Weak 4G signal and constant switching back and forth between 3G and 4G. I am in a decent 4G coverage area.

First phone had a bad speaker and mic. Second the speaker and mic are fine. Volume+ improved the sound even more.

I called VZW last night about losing all data, have had no network data since 2:00 pm CST. Rather than looking into any issues, the tech support tier 2 rep sent out a replacement after I did a factory reset with him on the phone. I am in the Chicago area, wondering if others may be experiencing issues as well?

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

My main thing is getting data at my house but, as a phone it's awesome. I always have about one to no bars but, have no issues making and receiving voice calls. I just talked to my buddy, for about thirty minutes and; he sounded nice and clear.

I just hope the update makes the data work better in my home.

My SGN has worse signal than other SGNs

I have a friend that bought his Galaxy Nexus the same day and it seems that wherever we go, he always has better signal than I do. He will have about -92 dbm while ill have -120dbm. Most of the time im not even connected to a cellular network we are both on verizon, and the only difference between my sgn and his is that mine is unlocked and rooted. Were both on 4.0.2. What could be causing my phone to have weaker signal strength?

Re: My SGN has worse signal than other SGNs

your not holding it like steve jobs tells you to :)

seriously my replacement is doing the same.
I think it has to do with the sim card.

I am giving them a buzz today.

BTW welcome aboard.
