[Official] What to do after rooting 2.3.3? Click here!

so i did the whole revolutionary S-off and root thing.

then i went back into the recovery and hit back up.. i'm now trying to pull that back up off the sd card and onto my computer.. is it the files inside the clockworkmod folder? to be exact the file address is clockworkmod>backup>2011-08-17.17.36.50..... inside that last folder there are 6 different img files and one md5 file..

i'm basically trying to do a nandroid backup before i start flashing other stuff lol... did i do it right?

also, i downloaded rom manager but once inside rom manager it says that i dont have clockworkmod installed... although i'm pretty sure i do since thats the recovery that i'm using and it was installed via revolutionary?

thanks for the help

Yes you did it right. The folder with the date is your backup. Don't pull anything out of that folder. Keep it as is.

As for Rom Manager, you need to click install recovery so the app knows that it is there even though you already have it. It's just one of those things.

next question lol.... is there a list somewhere of which apps are safe to remove without causing problems on the phone?

thanks in advance

Now that I don't know. Be careful with some as they can cause problems if you remove the wrong one. I'll do a little search to see if I can't find something. That is a good question and we should have thread or something with that info.

Update: Had to freshen up on which ones can be removed. Its been awhile.

The safe ones are all the Sprint apks. Leave HTC and other system apks alone.

I been looking for you. You got lost in all the post. Give this a shot if you want. It's the stock kernel with wireless N built in.

[KERNEL][SENSE][HTC STOCK] Stock Sense 2.3.3 Kernel - xda-developers

I grabbed a MSM 422 out of my truck to give this a try and it worked. Well, at least I can connect to it now...at 5 Mbps. Some people complain about us needing wireless N but without it I can't even connect at work since I have some AP's configured with one radio as wireless-n and the other as G... using the same SSID. My phone won't connect but the computers have no problem. Even with a single radio configured as g/n I have issues. I don't need N on the phone for speed, but I do need it for compatability.

Thanks for your help. I'll hit the thanks button when Frontier replaces my modem in the morning.

so another question lol...

i'm using rom manager to flash a rom... well the flash seems to have gone well, but now my question is what is the easiest way to get all my apps and setting and home page layout back??

i made an nandroid backup and a titanium backup before i flashed if that helps..

thanks

Give this a shot. It's MyBackup Root. In the description it says it backs up home screen including shortcut positions. Haven't tried it as my home screens are very simple. It also backs up many more things that could come in handy.

TB is good for backing up apps + data, but I don't recall it doing home screens.

Earlier this week I rooted my EVO 4G and flashed the CM7 ROM. So far I am like it, but was hoping for better battery performance.

Do I need to flash a new kernel as well? Is there any recommendations on which one?

Thanks

Battery life wasn't better (much) with CM7 until I installed Tiamat. Alot of improvement with that kernel and the setCPU working together. Battery gets drained during use, but is essentially untouched when the screen's off.

Bump. If you want my help personally, you'll have better luck posting in this thread... just saying.

I kept a copy of the backup ROM on the SD card in case I need it. My backup is sans Bloatware. I'm never going to flash back to completely stock so I made sure everything worked before using clockwork.

I installed warm twopoint two had it running and tried to go back but when I went to restore it said no files now I tried to turn back on and two poin two just keeps trying to start but wont??????

I'll be going back to the stock kernel... while I can usually connect to 802.11n networks, the connection doesn't actually pass data after a few minutes, then it disconnects on its own. There's only 4 of the radios at work where I have actually enabled 802.11n anyway. I just don't understand why HTC would purposely take out a feature.

Edit: So I stopped by to visit my dad and his wireless-N works just fine. This got me looking for issues with my MSM422 AP's and it turns out a firmware update fixes this problem... so I updated the MSM760 and MSM422 firmware and I should be good to go!

Did you wipe your SD card? Also did you wipe before flashing warm?

Glad to see you were able to pin point the issue!

what i would really like to know is, after making a backup and flashing/installing custom rom. How would i go about restoring my purchased apps and contact information? i had done abackup the first day i rooted and could not figure this out, so went back to my restore.

seem kinda pointless to make a backup if i cannot use the apps that i backed up without having to purchase them again.

i am new to rooting android devices, and plan to be doing it for a while so knowing this information would be very helpful.

i aprreciate whatever help i can get.

thank you
