Officially Moved To Android... Good Morning AC I go by QuickDime

...so technically not my first post here, been with Mobile Nations for sometime. But I kinda did something crazy last night and bought a Note 3. It made a lot of sense for business, especially with the SPen. I loved my Z10 and BB for many many years... have it as a backup!

Now I have several thousand questions.... maybe will just start with a few...

1) Why can I only enter a name and number in my contacts, can I add pictures?

2)Hardcore Twitter user, whats the best client to use, is there something similar to Blaq?

3)How do I know my phone is safe, I realize that sounds retarded. It was way simple in BB10. What should I be checking or looking for?

4)How safe is Google Wallet? Especially with the Play Store? I assume most keep your CC in full time.

5)Good place to review Touchwiz, I did skim the AC guide is there another good one as well?

6)Any recommendations of things to look at in general for Android?

7)I installed a couple Apps (AC, Outlook & Minion Rush), what are some more productive type apps you guys use?

Will start with 7 haha more to come!

1) you should be able to tap the contact them tap the icon where the photo goes.
3) for the most part, stick to apps from Play. Amazon does a good job st keeping malware out as well. You can install an anti virus app, like AVG. Chances of your phone getting a virus is slim, but an ounce if protection...
5) YouTube should have some unboxing videos. Not quite sure if this is the answer you were looking for.

6) Elaborate please?

7) Kingsoft office. Allows viewing AND editing of document files. Also supports most, if not all, MS document types.
Google Drive, Keep; Drop box and/or Box apps.

1) I don't have the Note 3, but adding a photo for your contact should be do-able by editing the contact then selecting the default picture. This should bring up an option to take a picture or upload an existing picture from your gallery.

2) Twitter has had it's issues with limiting developers to a certain number of user tokens. Falcon Pro is a great third-party Twitter app that ran into this issue (A revived Falcon Pro brings a hidden feature to keep on Tweetin' | Android Central), if you want to give it a try you can grab it here: Falcon Pro. I'm pretty sure it is no longer available in the Play Store because of this issue. Also, see the community page for further information on this app - https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/114345443048267259022

3) Stick to downloading apps from the Play Store when possible and stick to apps that are well established. Keep an eye on the permissions being requested and ask questions about that app if something looks out of the ordinary. Note: I know my suggested above contradicts the stick to Play Store apps. However, it's a notable app that has a solid developer that has been open about what the app is all about.

4) I don't use Google Wallet, so hopefully someone with experience can chime in on that question.

5) I'll take a look around and see if there is further information on TW.

6) Keep an eye on the AC Blog: Android Central | Android Forums, News, Reviews, Help and Android Wallpapers. Anything and everything Android will be covered there and keep you up to date on what is going on.

7) Google Keep - For note taking
Google Drive - Photo backup, preparing documents, spreadsheets, etc.

Other than those two the stock calendar and gmail app work for me.

You should be able to add a heck of a lot more than just name and number. I'm not familiar with Samsung's Contacts app, but on my Razr Maxx's People app (which I think is pretty much stock Android), if I select a contact and then choose Edit from the menu, there's a box at the bottom that says "Add another field," which then gives a whole list of possible fields to add to the contact.

For the most part, you can avoid malware by not installing apps from shady or obscure sites, especially if they're offering paid apps for free (which, if they're actually the real app, is piracy and illegal, but are also at high risk for being chock full of malware). As mentioned above, stick with Google Play and Amazon Appstore. I think GetJar and SlideMe are fairly reputable, but I've never installed apps from them.

Although there is certainly a contingent of users who firmly believe that antivirus/security apps are a waste of time and memory, I feel that it's only a matter of time before there is some truly dangerous Android malware that can do damage even if you're "careful." After all, malware authors are smart and very quick to adapt--it's a shame that these jerkwads don't apply their brains towards something that benefits humanity. Besides, many security apps have other useful functions, like remotely locating and wiping your phone. Well-known and well-respected security apps include Lookout, AVG, Avast, and TrustGo (among many others). Try some out, and see how they affect battery life and device performance--there can be a noticeable difference. For example, I noticed a definite increase in battery usage by Avast compared with Lookout.

I think Google Wallet is pretty safe, as long as you have good security on your phone--make sure there's a PIN or pattern lock! There's additional security with Wallet with the 4 digit PIN that you need to enter. Of course, there's always the risk of a hack attack or a security breach at the main Google server, but that's the case anywhere these days.

Power Toggles (excellent and versatile toggle widget)
Nova Launcher (more customizable homescreen launcher than stock)
DIGI Clock (nice clock widget that allows you to use anyfont .ttf file that you can download to your phone)
Total Commander (powerful file manager)
QuickPic (nice replacement for the stock Gallery)

Sorry for the delay on responding back been a crazy few weeks in life and jumping into Android/Samsung/Touchwiz has been very interesting but overall really good. The Note 3 is an absolute beast I'm very happy to have multitasking capabilities like the Z10.

-I was able to get the contacts worked out.
-I have been sticking to highly rated apps, so far so good.
-I have watched several videos on Touchwiz/Note 3 reviews plus tinkering and finding things, I'm starting to understand where things are.... major differences from other operating systems I've used.
-I picked up a few magazines to learn more about Google/Android and the things available to me, very powerful stuff, still learning!

Thanks for your response as well, I wanted to comment back specifically to you about the Twitter app. I have been using the stock Android Twitter app so far and its actually pretty decent, far better than the standard BB10 one. But I did look into Falcon Pro, but I didn't want to sideload or get it from an unknown source. So far so good. Plus Twitter just looks gorgeous on the Note 3's big screen.

Welcome. As for Google Wallet, I would say it's pretty safe. I mean, if you have a cc entered to make Play purchases, it's stored in your wallet already. And lots of people (millions) have that going on.

So I wouldn't worry too much about it. Of course, your comfort level may vary.

Looks like the rest of your questions have already been addressed.

Yeah the contacts problem was a little bit of me not understanding how the App worked. It was on a setting just bringing contacts from my SIM card over, which obviously just have a name and number. But when I figured out how to navigate and enrich those contacts, I could add all kinds of information.
